Were they happy or unhappy in the years leading up to their wedding? Studies show people less happy before marriage are more likely to divorce.
Our findings and interpretations of the relevance of early personality traits to marriage satisfaction squared with other studies by researchers investigating marriage and happiness. These studies have found that married people tend to be happier than unmarried people, but this is usually because people who get married tend to be happier several years before marriage; likewise, people who get divorced tend to be less happy before they are married. Of course the marriage itself has a big impact on overall happiness but it proves imperative to examine the qualities and previous histories of those entering into marriage.
