If you live in Canada, you ought to use google to find places you can call for legal advice. The key is to UNDERSTANDING the divorce laws.

In the US it seems that you can only add a clause to your marriage, which in some cases can even get thrown out. Whilst in the Netherlands, you can opt for never merging your financials in the first place. Of course then you will still face partner alimony and child support, but you wont split the total of wealth in half.

Note that it's also important to ask/research how housing works in the case of divorce. It will take some time and energy, but you'll thank yourself later. The laws ought to be the same/very similar over the whole of Canada by the way.
