Right now, I am entering my last semester of an engineering degree at a good university. I have recently been offered a job for a large financial institution, completely unrelated to my degree. This job would be very much an entry level office job at the bottom rung of the company. Pay would be mediocre(especially compared to some engineering salaries).

However, I have lost a lot of interest in engineering over the past few semesters. Grades are good, however my motivation to put in any work other than the bare minimum is basically zero. The thought of pulling a high salary after graduation is enticing, but the thought of likely moving to the middle of nowhere to a large plant is not something I want.

I have gained a lot of interest in finance over the past year, and do a lot of reading and learning of it on my own time. The job in question would be in my ideal city in my ideal area of the country, with good benefits and a good work/life balance to pursue my hobbies. Still, the thought of jumping ship on engineering makes me apprehensive. I have confidence in myself that I could move up quickly in the financial industry.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on going into a completely new field like this, or any insight in general. Thank you all.

Edit: If it makes any difference, I will have no debt post graduation and would be able to be financially independent in either situation.
