It isn't about feminine men. It is about the phaenotypic expression of immunobiologic markers. It basicly sais:

off hormone base birth control : Fuck what doesn't smell like you.

on birth control (aka daily dose of pregnancy surrogate) : Stick with your tribe/family.

It makes sense from a biological type of view as similiar expressions of MHC indicate some kind of relative / genetic 'closeness'. Attraction to those features will promote recessive / 'common' mutations within a sub group. In case of alien pathogens whole populations can easily be wiped out if the genetic makeup is not diverse enough. Therefore many of the sub groups with such genetic markers perished.

Tl; dr: Having offspring with your cousins will not help them in case 'alien'/non regional pathogens are introduced.

In the opposing case various genetic makeups get mixed which will provide better protection from pathogens inherently common in the sub groups A and B.

It's science - however I know girls that lift free weights have more testosterone and like more masculine men, even if they are on birth control. They also look better than the average girl.

It's all in the word "prefer". Yes, she'll prefer to be with him - but not to fuck him. Boys make this mistake all the time when they ask girls "what do you like in a guy?" The answer will invariably be, the kind of stuff she likes in a cute caring boyfriend. The correct question would be: "what kind of man makes you so wet you want to jump him?" It's not that hard to become a girl's boyfriend - the real challenge is actually turning her on.

Now the question is, is this really all about MHC? No doubt it plays a role and there have been studies on it, but its role may have gotten amplified because it fits the cozy notion that "there is a lid for every jar", in other words "she's not hot for you because your MHC is similar, so you should just find another woman". That's a lot more politically correct than hypergamy, and scientists have to be careful not to lose their funding.

And yet, there are studies that show a small minority of the men has sex with most of the women. MHC can't fully explain that. If it was a market of lids and jars, it would be symmetrical.

This co-exists nicely with AFBB because AFBB is NOT caused by women or their pharmacological-psychological cocktail. AFBB is strictly the result of water flowing downhill, in this case to men who are WILLING to be Beta Bucks, either out of mistaken conviction that they are supposed to date used up women who never would have spoken to them when they were younger and hotter, or desperation that this is the best they can do.
