This has puzzled me for some time. How is it, that when all the pressure seems to be stacked against the beta, that we don't have a society that is progressively getting more alpha? Without counteracting forces, women's obvious sexual preference for dominant men would lead to a world of alphas. What are these counteracting forces? Historically higher mortality in Alphas? The necessity of the child supporting Beta? Perhaps this relates to group selection to a degree? I'd like to hear from some men who have thought a lot about the competitive advantages (defunct competitive advantages?) of the Alpha/Beta strategies.
