Any scientific evidence for the 80/20 rule?

Yeah okaycupid did a study and so did pof where 80% of men were considered below attractiveness.

It depends on what you consider "evidence", but a while ago a dating site (OKCupid, I think?) released a HUGE, multi-year study of tens of thousands of men and women...

And yes, almost exactly it was 80/20...80% of women aim for the top %20 of men. Even worse, 80% of women consider THEY are in the top%10 of women (Which probably accounts for their bad aim.) And women consider %80 of men to be below average in looks.

Men's perception of women was much more fair; women's perception of men was very far from reality. To me this is proof that women over-value themselves and under-value men....so women really are entitled, even sexually/ socially.

It’s everywhere in daily life. 80% of men in my classes look below average and it’s the 20% that can say whatever they want and women will laugh. If you want scientific evidence, go do a test and observe women socializing with other men and see if it goes anywhere and mark down their attractiveness too.

I think the best estimates currently come from GSS data, and it seems it is more like between 54/20 and 74/20 for males and between 34/20 and 63/20 for females, though the estimates are not very reliable.

Data from NHANES and GSS suggests a recent trend toward higher prevalence of male singlehood, though, and the data only ranges to 2016, so maybe this is outdated.

In online dating platforms it's likely around 70/20 for males, but it's unknown whether there is a difference between online mating and real world mating markets.

There is also likely variance between different subpopulations, e.g. in academia it may be more extreme because women are admitted unusually high status due, so they likely only copulate with a smaller percentage of men as women prefer to date up in socioeconomic and education status.
