OP shared a link.

Take Action: He drugged her. Now he's on TV. CeeLo Green just said that rape isn’t rape if the victim is unconscious. Tell TBS and Time Warner to drop his show. http://d.shpg.org/55244254f

OP's Friend 1 WTF???

OP WTF.

OP's Friend 1 Rape is rape, no matter what this poor excuse of a man says.

Me Not saying he is a good guy, but these two were in a consensual sexual relationship and he gave her ecstasy. Rape was not part of this.

OP's Friend 1 Did she agree to the drug? Did she agree to sex while drugged? A woman can be raped in any kind of relationship. I hardly think she consented to being fucked while unconscious. That isn't a relationship - that is taking advantage.

OP's Friend 2 WTF

OP's Friend 3 He's gross!

Me She wasn't unconscious. Acknowledged the sex was consensual and did not pursue rape charges. He was tried for giving her a controlled substance unknowingly. That is not rape.

Me Furthermore, it is disgraceful, disrespectful, and counter-productive to weigh cases like this in step with rape in the name of combatting rape culture.

Me Ecstasy is a form of methamphetamine. The last thing it causes people to do is black out or pass out.

OP's Friend 4 Asshole.

OP's Friend 5 In his twitter feed he said women who have been raped remember. I have been an advocate for enough women who do not remember. He also said if someone is passed out they are not with you consciously. So where does that imply consent. Even if she agreed to sex while under the influence, or before taking a drug, there was never a possibility to stop after consumption. Being with someone sexually while too wasted to communicate is sexual assault. Ecstasy can make a person vulnerable and open to suggestions they may normally not engage in. Ecstasy mixed with alcohol can cause blackouts.

Me No one here is condoning what he said on Twitter. I am arguing that the case tried was for furnishing a controlled substance. After police investigation, there was no evidence of sexual assault and thus the prosecution pursued only the furnishing charge.

There is zero empirical evidence that combining ecstasy with alcohol can cause blackouts.

This is not a rape case.

OP's Friend 5 This is not a rape case. It is however a platform to decide the qualities we as a society want in our stars. It is a platform to talk about rape culture in America. Sexual consent can only happen with consciousness. Ecstasy is MDMA. Mixed with alcohol it can have severely dangerous outcomes including dehydration and unconsciousness. I do not know if there are scientific journal articles providing empirical evidence as I am only on my phone not at my computer to find one. We can't judge him or her for their sexual preferences. If sexuality is consensual it is healthy. We can only make choices based on the choice to give someone a drug without their knowledge.

Me It is not a platform for any of those things because the facts of the case are limited to a no-contest, innocence maintained, drug furnishing charge. He was accused of giving her the drug unknowingly, was charged, but not found guilty. He was accused of rape, but was not charged. He was accused of furnishing a controlled substance, was charged, and given a no contest, innocence maintained, sentence. I take issue with anyone misconstruing those facts to build a platform for discussing "rape culture" solely based on a persons unsubstantiated accusation that someone she was in a consensual sexual relationship gave her a drug without her knowledge, causing her to suffer an undocumented side effect resulting in her inability to consent to a sexual advance. There is zero evidence of sexual assault in this case. The only component of sexual assault is her accusation and thankfully we have a judicial system that has a sentiment of due process in hopes that an accusation is not tantamount to guilt.

OP's Friend 6 He was not found guilty because he pleaded no contest. He was then sentenced to probation, community service, and must register as a convicted narcotics offender. In the eyes of the law, he was not innocent of the drug offense.

Prosecutors could not proceed with the rape charge due to lack of evidence. Green's attorneys had stated the two had consensual sex on the night he drugged her. This sums up the opinion of many: "A woman whose judgment is impaired cannot give consent and a woman whose judgment is impaired due to being slipped drugs without her knowledge or consent is definitely not consenting to sex."

Guilty persons go free on a regular basis for a myriad of reasons. His own words, and those of his attorneys, are quite damning.

Me "he drugged her" this is not a fact. This is an accusation by the woman in question that has not been substantiated by either side. His side of the story is that they both consented to doing drugs and sex. Its her word against his without any evidence to the former.

Why are you choosing to ignore these facts and immediately classifying this as rape? A rape accusation is not grounds for indictment.

He was accused of this by the woman, but he never admitted any wrong doing and continues to hold that all acts including the drug use were consensual.

OP's Friend 7 he is gross

OP's Friend 6 Why are you defending him? Just curious if you actually think he is a good guy, of if you are playing devil's advocate, or something else?

Me I'm defending the few available facts that we have about the situation. 2 People Went on a Date 2 People Did Drugs 2 People Had Sex These are the only facts corroborated by both people and verified by investigators.

Me Investigators looked for any additional evidence of wrong doing and found none. I'm not seeing the injustice that has everyone up in arms.

OP's Friend 6 It is because of situations like this that make women afraid to speak out about wrongs against them. It doesn't matter how many guilty parties are held responsible - situations like this make it difficult and intimidating.

The man's statements and behavior indicate that this is a pattern. If there was no wrongdoing then why did he get probation, community service, and rehab?

Me "It is because of situations like this that make women afraid to speak out about wrongs against them."

Why? She filed a police report. The police investigated and charged him with the crimes they had evidence to substantiate.

"It doesn't matter how many guilty parties are held responsible - situations like this make it difficult and intimidating."

For who? The police didn't dismiss her report and went to great lengths to validate the accusation.

"The man's statements and behavior indicate that this is a pattern."

How do three redacted tweets and cooperating with law enforcement and the judicial system indicate a behavioral pattern? And what is that pattern?

"If there was no wrongdoing then why did he get probation, community service, and rehab?"

He plead no contest to the charge of furnishing a controlled substance. The sentence is extremely lenient for a judicial system that has other black men serving life sentences for selling weed.

OP @Me, please take your conversation elsewhere. As I explained earlier today in our office-clearing conversation, I believe you are completely missing the fucking point. When I was an undergrad at the University of Washington, it was well known that a young woman who lived down the street from me was brutally raped and assaulted by a well-known football player (who later went on to become a Seattle Seahawk). Her case was dismissed due to a mishandling or perhaps lack of "evidence." While you seem to be well versed in Mr. green's case, you are markedly less informed on the current rape/sexual assault situation in our country and worldwide. As I clearly and respectfully shared with you today during our conversation, I do not accept/condone/appreciate ANYTHING that negatively contributes to the perpetuation of our rape culture. So I'm having trouble appreciating your desire to put everyone in their place here. Please refrain from criticizing my anecdote. Please do not approach me to discuss this again until I've had time to cool down. I hate to use trite phrases when debating or conversing, but I think there is one that applies here: if you aren't part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. And for the record, CeeLo Green should be ashamed of himself for misusing his influence, resources, and privilege. That's my personal opinion and is valid. I DO want to see my country be great. It starts with me. Peace, love, and light. Thank you to everyone who participated in this thread. Wow.

OP I'm glad he got fired.
