Selvaratnam is also hoping that her book will be a policy changer. She's advocating for better health insurance to cover infertility treatments as well as better public education for women.
I support universal health care and covering contraception, but this goes too far for me. If you're too old to conceive and still desperately want a child, then adopt one of the many children that would benefit from having at least one parent. Don't waste resources just so you can experience pregnancy and childbirth.
(Yes, I'm ignoring the desire to pass on one's genes.)

Don't waste resources just so you can experience pregnancy and childbirth.
And don't waste (our) resources just because you pissed away your prime reproductive years riding the carousel. In effect they want us to subsidize their personal choices to be sluts while expecting uncle sam, aka you and I the taxpayers, to be thier beta bucks. To that I say "NO."
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You understand the fundamental problem. What you do with your resources is entirely your choice and naturally you will have to live with the consequences.
BUT, do not try to force others to provide it for you with their resources. All these asinine leftist ideas are nothing short of insanity.

Hey now, who are you to dictate what is or isn't a medical condition worthy of subsidization via tax dollars?
Helping a 45 year old woman fulfill her biological imperative is just as commendable as paying for a transsexual's gender reassignment surgery.
And when that baby emerges from her dusty, cavernous womb as a mutant, we'll have socialized medicine to help pay for it, too!

I agree. The problem isn't that she wants to use fertility treatments, it is that she want's to increase taxes/health insurance rates for men so doesn't have to directly cover the cost of her own poor decisions.

I support universal health care and covering contraception, but this goes too far for me...
What exactly does the word universal mean to you then?
[–]InfraredPillpusher0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Universal in that it covers everyone, not that it covers all medical-related costs. There's room for nuance, but in general I don't support covering cosmetic/beauty, sex-change, or otherwise "unnecessary" medical costs.

Well, the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit doesn't appear to agree with you.

Like I give a fuck. I'm telling you what I support, not what the law says.

It hamsters at times, but the main point is we have an article in the mainstream media that actually tackles "Feminism's terrible blunder".
relevant:

What if a recent college graduate who was the star pitcher for his college baseball team told you that he intended to play Major League professional baseball, but not until after he’d gotten his law degree and had established a successful law practice? You’d think he was crazy, yet women do the equivalent every day.
Gold. That fucking article should be required reading for HS girls.

Holy shit.
I have never seen more hamstering in the comments.

The thing everyone should take away from all of this is that feminism is your best friend.
While in your teens - twenties you can use the whole "I can sleep with as many people as I want, whenever, however, I want" attitude to your advantage.
It convinces the majority of women that its okay to sleep around and that there are no long term consequences whatsoever. When in reality its hurting them more than its actually "liberating" them like they think.
Take the time to use that to your advantage by sleeping around, and staying away from relationships with these girls. Focus on you until you're in your 30s, and then decide if and when you want to have a family.
Chances are if you're a frequent poster or reader here then that answer is probably already there.
However, this article that the OP posted makes some really solid points and its convinced me that perhaps this is the best time to be looking for a mate. And not now, like I thought I would have to when in reality I should just fuck bitches and get money. For lack of a better phrase.
The fact is that women do age like milk, and most women believe that their milk is never going to get sour because that milk has been branded by feminism to be 100% guaranteed fresh for life.
Men really do age like wine, but like most wines there is some effort that must be placed into it. So get off reddit and create something that you can turn into a billion dollar company.

Taking some time off from your career, or easily coming back to your job is a fundamental issue for easing the path for women to have a baby in their late 20s or early 30s -- the optimal time for fertility, but often a terrible time to interrupt careers. We need to find ways to advocate, small and big. Instead of judging each other,we should be supporting each other.
I'm no longer surprised when women completely fail to see the real problem due to their belief that they are entitled to "have it all". It's too late for older broads, but young women would benefit from understanding their best chance for happiness is to leverage their exquisite looks and charm in their early adulthood and secure a 30-something alpha with money and a desire to settle down.
Instead they want career latitude that few men are ever afforded, and "support and advocacy" - translated, meaning "tell me what I want to hear".
sigh

"What I see as the fundamental problem with women pursuing careers is the near-universal assumption these women make: That they will be able to “pencil in” a suitable husband at whatever point that they decide it’s time to marry and have kids. That is a very dangerous assumption, because it’s seldom true, and I’ll explain why."
The reason they assume this is because they're chased by men in their teens and twenties, and so having a husband doesn't seem urgent because they figure they can "choose" to have one at any point. So, they get into the horrible habit of being dismissive to the vast majority of the men who approach them, holding out instead for Brad Pitt. This habit becomes so firmly engrained for many of them, that by the time they are 30, they find it hard to change on a dime and think more pragmatically about their situation. Their habit has become their identity, and changing identity is frightening and time-consuming.
On a sidenote, I went on OKC to look up an epic profile. The chick has dialed it down several notches, and seems almost contrite as she is now 26 and still single. You can see in her profile that she feels confused about how to attract the right man. She admits that she is single because she likes men more successful than her, but that at the same time, she acts like a big asshole.

Very well put re: penciling in a husband.
[–]Idrinkjdbythegallon1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
yeah. At 26 a woman's internals start to panic. By 28 it manifest into desperation. At 30, they are already trying to justify their situation. Somewhere in these next few years a woman has to take whatever comes her way (loser) or become a cat lady. Most girls take the miserable sexless marriage over the 6-12 cats.
Timing is everything in life. The key is cashing out at the time the asset has the most perceived value. As we know woman about 24 men about 35

I give her credit for starting to come around, because she's pretty hot, and usually hot girls don't come around until 29-30.

Extremely off topic, but I have a question here maybe some of you biology guys could answer.
This may be some ignorance on my part, but I was under the impression a woman only had one egg in her system per cycle? The article mentions that at the age of puberty, they have upwards of 200,000.
So where the hell are these eggs going...?
[–]Arrightalready1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Not every egg "makes it" to ovulation. The ovaries contain oocytes, and each time an egg makes it to ovulation, a thousand others don't. So, over the course of normal reproductive years, a woman may have 400 cycles, but loses 400,000 eggs total.
[–]Evers89-1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Ah okay so their eggs function much like our sperm in that it's only the fittest?
This makes sense thank you.
[–]Glenbert0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So check this out, even one of authors at Jezebel acknowledged this reality at some point. I'm guessing that she is not, nor will ever be, a paid contributor there because of this article.
This article still gets it wrong saying a woman's prime reproductive age is late 20s to early 30s, it isn't. By the time a woman is 35 the chance of child having down syndrome becomes has already increased from 1 in 200 from 1 in 2000. The ideal age for woman will also be 18-26 for reproduction.
