You know what's funny a lot of women still believe in horoscopes, psychics and fortune tellers. But I'm to believe that men are more gullible than women? How about humans are gullible, culture and society effects us equally, if women were not they wouldn't use make up as much or have a large amount of anxiety. Social pressure shape your view of the world the idea that men believe in these things isn't surprising.

They are trying to ape them, at great expense, and it is unattractive to the men who were ASKED about it. You seem to say you don’t use social media, but this complaint was about hyper materialist social media addicts. You and that OP are talking about something DIFFERENT when you say “travel” than men competing in the tournament sexuality of online dating are. They are seeing countless profiles devoid of any human detail describing enthusiasm for what occurs during travel, but instead just thot shots and conspicuous consumption in vacation destinations. The message sent is not ACTUALLY “i like travel.” The message is “my time is expensive and will be used to increase my visibility and clout.”

And my argument is not normative! I have absolutely nothing against women harvesting male thirst. I have dated literal escorts and camgirls (as in we dated normally but their occupation was to fuck men or get naked for money). It is 100% fine.

And really it is meaningless how many women actually get supported via social media or not. But again, having dated camgirls, sometimes civilian women STILL strike me as even more obsessed with self promotion and self observation than some women whose literal damn jobs are to stoke male thirst. I realize YOU aren’t but we were talking about you.

Sure NEETs are deluded by insta thots and a lack of real life experience. Nonetheless, many women are vapid social media addicts who pollute legitimately pleasant things with their woo girl narcissism, and it is unattractive to many men. In this regard the complaint is identical to women bitching about the countless idiotic things men do online and elsewhere. They can obviously take or leave those women but if someone comes on and proactively asks people why they dislike girls who like “travel” people are gonna answer.

Twentysomething guy here. While I agree that people are gullible, it’s also true that the bar for entry to becoming a sugar baby or being sent money is lower than ever for pretty young women who want to seek it out.

In my demographic, the sugaring site Seeking Arrangements is well-known even if most don’t comfortable with using it. Some young women have “premium” Snapchats where men send them money for nudes. It wasn’t that uncommon for women to post their Venmo in their Tinder bios before the app started banning the practice, and a few women keep their Venmos in their Twitter bios. Some minority of men is throwing around money hoping to get sex or companionship in return. A few will even send pretty women tens or thousands of dollars online while seeking nothing in return, just because they want them to have a good life. I have no idea how common these things are, but they’re less uncommon than ever.

The young men you describe are gullible, but not as much you think.

To your 2nd point; I'm not deluded into thinking most women can be, or even WANT to be, IG models. It's mostly young women, older women and overweight women with low self esteem. The ability TO have a side hustle to make bank from your body with no risk of rape/assault/harassment/coercion of any kind, is one of the core hopes of sex positive feminism though.

I think a lot of women unexpectedly end up becoming them when their weight loss story goes viral. People who struggle to do things always assume that the people who CAN do things must have some sort of amazing extra leg up in the world. And maybe it’s true, in some ways.

Ie - I grew up with really adventurous, gregarious parents. We went on all sorts of road trips growing up, so the idea of “travel” was always available to me - just throw a spare shirt and a toothbrush in your backpack, hop in the car and drive. I saved up and paid my own way to Germany with friends by 16. By 17 I went on my first solo road trip, driving 12 hours from Omaha to Cincinnati just to see their 17 year cicada plague (I’m kinda obsessed with insects.)

By 19, I was bored with the Midwest so I just threw all the shit I could fit into the back of my car, put the rest of my shit on the curb and drove East until I hit Philly. Within a week I’d gotten a job, within a month I had an apartment, and within a year I’d enrolled myself in college.

I have to think part of the reason I could do all of is because I’d grown up being shown it was possible. I doubt I would have been so confident I could pull it off if I’d been raised as an indoor cat whose only world perspective was the stupid shit people say to each other on the internet. Echo chambers are designed to keep people from developing, as becoming well-rounded inevitably results in no longer needing an echo chamber. For the people still IN that echo chamber, this is abandonment. Misery loves company. To avoid misery you have to seek situations that aren’t full of misery. But to do that, you have to know (or believe) that the option even exists.

I don’t think there is more than maybe 1% of all men (“if” that) who genuinely believe that men just give “women” (in the aggregate, not just 18-22 year old 10/10s, but ALL or even MOST women) free shit just for existing and being a woman.

As far as the beliefs about 18-22 year old 10/10s, men don’t need social media for that. I’ve seen my father literally put his boat into the marina, have it professionally cleaned, and invite strippers out for the weekend, or take a webcam girl to Greece for ten days. He’s told me about it and showed me the pictures that I can’t unsee.

Same thing with my uncle. Same thing with myself when I was 15 for this girl in my high school class. Same thing with this poor guy I knew in college who fell really hard for this Chinese girl who would barely speak a word. Men do stupid shit. People do stupid shit ... especially when they’re young or thirsty (or both).

But I don’t think there’s any kind of general belief among men in the manosphere or male subculture that assumes or pre-supposes that men just give women (in the aggregate) free shit just for existing or being a woman. That’s like the No. 1 complaint of women about feminists and feminism. Thanks a lot feminism! Now men will push us out of the way when the Titanic is sinking and now we have to pay half of the fucking cheque for dates. Fucking feminists!

There is a higher percentage of men with zero dating/sexual experience than there are women. Those men retain their fantasies until a big enough rejection hurts them badly enough. Most women find out sooner, in their teens or early twenties at the latest.

The men you see who believed in the fairytales and are shocked to learn they aren't real are those men who are/were incel for a significant period of time and learned the truth too late. Their female equivalent will never be as large a percentage of the female population.

I think most people get sucked in by some sort of incorrect representation of some general aspect of part of the world somewhere along the line... I mean not just about sex but about all sorts of things, you're going to drop the ball on something sometime. Maybe you based your romantic fantasies off Disney. Maybe you didn't realize straight up that the personnel department is there to protect your employer not you. Maybe you ignored the effects of compound interest when you got your first credit card. Just most of us when we work it out we sort of shrug, realize that on this issue we'd been stupider than our peers, correct our actions and feelings and get on with life.

What amazes me about the young men who complain isn't that a small proportion of men formed inaccurate perceptions, but their placing the locus of control over that outside of themselves and then their subsequent lack of embarrassment in talking about their mistake.

I literally just listened 5 hours ago to one of my female colleague's stories about gold-digging adventures of her youth.

And boy, does she have many of those stories!

There was a guy who once paid for 1 whole year of her rent. Didn't even bang him.

Her former boss took her to exotic vacations multiple times, for years. Didn't even bang him.

She received a fuckton of presents and favors from guys, ranging from golden necklaces to almost a car!

She got multiple jobs from guys who wanted to bang her. Didn't bang most of them.

I saw pictures of her youth. She was maybe a 7 or 8 in looks, but has a shitty fucking personality and cognitive power. She's not even smart enough to properly manipulate people. Men just threw money at her hoping they can bang her.

And I have plenty of female acquaintances with stories like these.

So yeah, MANY men are fucking retarded for throwing time and resources at women. Especially when they get nothing in return. They only have the right to be angry at their gullible, autistic beta/provider self though.

As for a man who grew up with Disney movies and i still have them at my parent's house in VHS.

I grew up with the princess and prince impression, the oneitis, that there is this one perfect mate for you on this earth. Listening to music on a daily basis, singers and bands would write about "the one love", either she broke their hearts or they praised them for being perfect.

No one told me when I was young how it really was going down, especially in the ages from 5 to 15. Only when i started out dating and getting experiences with women i realized more and more that these are dreams, imaginary pictures drawn by people who would like it to be that way. Disney movies have some Real Life messages along the way that might impact you, Jordan Peterson has some lectures on it, f.e. "the beauty and the beast" for women.

But it is very hard and emotionally destructive when your "mating compass" gets turned in the wrong direction in the beginning and you have to turn it around through breakups, hardships, and lessons in life.

I had a lot of female friends, especially in HS and when it comes to crushes i would ask on how to get them. And most advice women give would end a man up in the friendzone. Being played of as the nice guy etc.. That's why i would say i have been lied to from women. They tell you how they would like it in their head, but what women actually want and how a man actually gets a girl is a whole different thing. In HS you can make mistakes and both sexes don't have a lot of experience, but the older you get the creepier you appear.
