occasional poster here, I do read the posts on this subreddit on a daily basis though.

Almost every other day on this subreddit, there is a post debating if looks matter or not. The general consensus on this sub over the years has went from looks are only a factor in attractiveness for men, to looks are the main things that matter.

There is almost always someone in the comment section asking why PUA's (women/ blue pillars often say the same thing but for different reasons, this post is not about that) say looks don't matter. I used to wonder the same thing to. Then I realized why they often say looks don't matter.

A lot of the things that make males visually attractive or unattractive is out of their control. Such as height, race, hair loss, facial structure. I can guarantee that someone in the comment section will say that you can improve your looks by showering, getting a nice haircut and wearing nice clothes. Those things help, but they won't make you go from a 5 to a 10 (I admit though, there are some guys that looked unattractive due to bad hygiene).

Because a lot of the things that make some men unattractive is out of their control, PUA's tell them looks don't matter and to just workout and groom yourself smartly when it comes to their appearance because they want them to accept the things they can't change and work on the things they can, such as social skills etc. You can clearly see with certain group of hateful lonely men that I won't name, that they are stuck in a negative cycle of thought where they believe that they have no hope because looks are the only thing that matters when it comes to dating and they can't do anything about their looks.

I'm not trying to say looks don't matter here. Because an attractive guy is gonna have a way easier time finding a partner then an unattractive guy. I'm saying its better to accept the things you can't change and improve the things you can. Because there's always a chance for an unattractive guy, he's just gonna work harder for it. Obsessing over "looks are the only thing that matter" won't do anything for you.

TL;Dr : A lot of the things that make males visually attractive or unattractive is out of their control. Such as height, race, hair loss, facial structure. by showering, getting a nice haircut and wearing nice clothes. you can change your looks, but they won't make you go from a 5 to a 10. So you should accept the things that you can't change, and improve the things you can. Guys that look unattractive stand a chance, they just have to work harder. Obsessing over looks won't do anything for most guys.
