First off guys are into any attractive girl they know. Younger girls(sub 25 or so) are more likely to act crazy without caring(many learn to hide this as they get older), many (of both sexes) party, many are big into drama(and often grow out of this or hide it), many are narcissists (they grow out of this or hide it), generally all are hotter.

All the highlights you picked out are a reflection of youth. Younger (and many older)guys like young girls and these traits are common in them.

If I remember back to the girls I wanted in my younger days, the only constant between them is that they were physically attractive and they knew/talked to me.

I'm a long ways past my college years but not much of anything noteworthy has changed in what I find attractive to unattractive. Things that were non factors when I was younger(like everything mentioned in the OP) are now flags of how I should approach and what I should realistically expect from a woman. I feel that is likely what most of the people in that thread actually mean when they say they found those things "attractive."

I mean, I’m unsurprised by the results you found, quite honestly. The thing about emotionally unstable women is that, when they’re bad, they’re really bad, but when they’re good, they’re really good. Men being—on average—more emotionally stable than women, we can deal with women’s “drama” better than other women can, which I think a lot of women would attest to. As such, a lot of men can deal with the emotional bullshit dramatic women throw at them (i.e. emotional abuse) in exchange for the good times, when they’re positively effusive and wonderful in ways that most men aren’t. So men get things emotionally from women that men don’t provide.

However, I don’t want this to be misconstrued as me saying that men are emotionally stunted or anything like that. Men are perfectly capable of relating to each other emotionally, they just do it very differently than women. Women are supportive and loving and cuddly to men; men, on the other hand, to other men, are pragmatic, solid, dependable, and non-judgmental in ways women aren’t. That’s by no means a comprehensive list, I’m just trying to describe average gender differences in terms of friendship.

Plus, a lot of men out there like taking care of women, and fucked up women need taking care of. This is a toxic dynamic, and one I’d like to see fewer men engage in in the future, but...well...things are what they are.

That said, on a more serious note: I had the misconception that similar likes and interests can really carry a relationship (as long as mutual attraction is a given of course). After I got to know a girl who was intelligent, talented and had the same interests I did but who was thoroughly fucked up, I came to the conclusion that being emotionally balanced and happy is more important.
