I was going to respond to another popular thread on here, but the discussion gave me some ideas that I want to put down in writing to get more feedback and discussion going.

What is The Reality Context Problem?

There could be a better name for this already—if you know of a more clinical term, please let me know.

The problem is simply that many people project their knowledge and life experiences onto others, assuming that the solutions or things that worked for them will work for others.

Each of us has sn insane amount of context built into out minds and belief-systems. Just imagine how many books you’ve read over the years, television news, youtube videos, conversations with friends, the way you were raised by your parents (or lack thereof).

All of this comprises your Reality Context.

Some people of course understand this phenomena. Empathy has a lot to do with this.

Random, easy to understand example: Cargo Culting.

I’m going to butcher this story (this is just from memory), but during some war (probably WWII), allied forces landed on some island in SE Asia. The island was inhabited by natives who were just a step above hunter-gatherers. They had no real knowledge of technology or what was going on in the rest of the world. Allied planes dropped parachutes full of goods and the natives got ahold of some of these. The supply drop contained foods & other items that seemed like mana from heaven. The natives developed this cult that worshipped these sky gods that would drop supplies via parachute for them.

It’s easy to see they just lacked the context to understand what was going on. You could try to explain to them what was going on ... but where do you start? The advent of giant populated cities, mass agriculture, electricity, motorized vehicles, air travel, global geo-politics ... of course they are not going to know what the fuck you are talking about.

Something similar is happening with modern feminists and the incel movement. Or radical leftists and the alt-right.

The “average extremist” has this really—I don’t want to say warped—but drastically different Reality Context than your average centrist in the middle of the field.

This is what’s happening with so-called “Chads” and incels. If you can’t understand what’s going on here and think that incels are blowing the importance of looks out of proportion—clearly your context has a lot to do with your beliefs, right?

Can you empathize enough to picture some ugly nerd who got picked on his whole life, could never get the time of day from any girls, and becomes a disgruntled incel? How it’s silly to simply say, “all you have to do is be yourself” (and also lower your standards).

Counter-point: for the Incels and woman-haters out there, even if you are joking/trolling/whatever, can you see how some woman raised in a liberal environment, surrounded and filled until age 22 with almost entirely left-wing views and talking points — how they would have a problem with a group of guys online who get together and refer to women as “femoids” ?

Many take this “politically correct” stuff seriously and it is not just faux-outrage. As women, they’ll have been a lot more likely to have been sexually assaulted, a lot more likely to become victims of homicide from their male partners, etc.

So, what are your thoughs?

I’m looking for fresh critique and not just rehashed NPC-esque responses. If I’m wrong, please explain in detail your arguments.
