There are women who hold the view that this behaviour is acceptable, but they're not ones you'd want to be in a relationship with in the first place.

As for general society yes it's clearly more acceptable than the reverse or it wouldn't be played for laughs in advertisements. But that doesn't mean it's endorsed either, I don't think general society encourages this behaviour. And if a woman destroyed my property I'd be pressing charges because this isn't a sitcom.

To help OP's point, many countries have this kind of "ad watcher" public institution that can remove ads from air if they consider them questionable for any means.

Commercials that may seem to be sexist (against women) are removed, quite swiftly. Commercials that could be deemed sexist against men are not removed. When it comes to double standards like in the OP and destruction of property, that's what you could expect by these institutions. Woman to man? Fine. The other way around? Insta-removed.

I know it's not a commercial, but it's kinda related. It's a case from Spain from some years ago. There was a children's book called "About girls (just for boys). Small jokes". It was a book for children about stereotypical jokes. It was considered to be sexist, demeaning and those neutral "watcher" institutions considered it to be something that could potentially normalize domestic violence. So it was removed from sale. Even the author came out and apologized, saying that it had been a grave mistake.

The funny thing? The same author and editor have a book called "About boys (for girls). Small jokes". No one said anything about that one!

The point with this is, it's a lot more socially acceptable for women to destroy a man's property. The other way around is considered intimidation, domestic violence, etc. (depending the country). Advertisement is just one way where it shows.

I know, I know, this doesn't happen in your country/family/planet, it's all a conspiracy. I do remember a girl bragging of having broken the driving mirrors of her boyfriend's car because he forgot to pick her up at a certain time some night. Everybody laughed. Me included, unfortunately.

Of course it is, why else would they air this commercial? They're not dumb. Every commcercial tends to women. The oppressed women (who have more women in college, get less jail time for the same crimes, get default custody, represent less than 9% of the homeless, have all the violence shelters for, get the male automatically arrested, ect ect) but soo oppressed.

I've seen men charged with arson for burning their X's stuff and put in prison for it twice now. Once when young and he burned her prom dress he bought her on a bonfire at a party and another guy a few years back who merely poured gas on his X's clothes in his front yard.

The first guy got 4 years and served just over a year and the second got seven day for day mandatory.

I've also seen women stab men, burn clothes in the house, vandalize cars, etc and the inconveniences never even appeared on the police reports.

this isnt a product of feminism, its a product of centuries of society deciding women arent as strong as men, that men are big n scary while women are frail and angelic, that only men are fit for physically demanding jobs/violent jobs, etc

I hate this sort of thing and I don’t understand why it’s seemingly acceptable to portray this as if it’s normal behavior. I don’t think there’s anything good or strong about destroying property to show your anger. For some reason it does seem to be a relatively common trope in the media: women breaking things, throwing men’s belongings out a window and even punching or slapping. It’s pretty disgusting. To me it makes women look really bad - like we’re all over-reactive, jealous, violent harpies. I don’t see anything positive about it and it’s not amusing.

I think she just meant to burn his beloved sneakers in the bathtub but didn’t realize the tub was ceramic and exploded.

Rumor has it he also brought home an STD from his cheating. She’s also been adamantly against cheating. Their TLC song Creep she didn’t even record her vocals on because that’s how much she hates the concept.

Anyway he didn’t press charges because I guess he figured he would have snapped too if she had been flagrantly cheating / brought him home a “surprise” infection.

My former coworker was cheated on by his wife and she moved on with her new boyfriend.

She requested they evenly split the assets.

He went to their favorite couch and chainsawed it in half.

She didn’t press charges or make a huge deal mostly because she knew she was in the wrong to begin with.

Just think about if you heard one of your female friends did that to one of your male friends, would people from your social circle really NOT call her a crazy bitch? I knew a woman who took a knife to a teddy bear her ex gave her, she decapitated it and left it on his doorstep - she was mocked and derided by everyone who found out. I’ve never known a woman who destroyed a man’s property but I can’t imagine anyone I know would just shrug it off and accept it as normal behavior.

I've had far more of my property destroyed by angry men than I have ever destroyed. In our society men are statistically more likely to be violent and destructive.

I believe that the media trope of spurned women destroying property fits easily into the absurdist category because it's actually a gender role swap. It's funny because it's not realistic and not acceptable.

Ah, the crazy vindictive girlfriend trope that tends to be used when writers want to add a little frisson of violence to a scene without the audience feeling anyone is seriously in danger. Toxic femininity, but where there is that there's usually toxic masculinity supporting it. Look for the thread of toxic masculinity in it that mirrors the thread of toxic femininity... we don't feel he can be in danger like we would feel a woman is in danger because he's a man and can Take Care of Himself. So it is only things that are in danger and we can all relax and enjoy the fictional violence.

If you want this shit to stop one of the ways you'll need to dismantle it is men have to give up on the business of not being disturbed by expressions of violence. But there's privileges that go along with not being disturbed by expressions of violence so well there you go, one to convince your fellow men of, just like feminists had to convince women to give up the idea of chastity as a virtue in order to dismantle the idea sluthood as a status of shame.

It depends on who you ask. Among women, yes. Among men, hell no.

I think the difference here is related to gender norms. Being that men are generally more direct, and women are generally more indirect, we have different ways of displaying aggression.

Men will display direct physical aggression in the form of physical violence and harm.

Women, on the other hand, will display indirect or passive aggression, which would be damaging your things or your social status. Everything that you all have seen women do, whether it be keying cars, throwing stuff out on the lawn, breaking phones, gossiping about you behind your back to her friends, family and coworkers and portraying you in the worst light possible are all the things that women commonly do when they aggress.

Of course. Women can literally do anything at any time other than murder and it be seen as better or less harsh because she's a woman. Don't female criminals get less time then male criminals for the same crime?

The reason this is accepted is because society views women like children. More so grown children than anything else. If you try to scold them or tell them that it's wrong to act that way you're seen as bad/controlling.

It's really great to be a woman in today's society.

What women will do is tank the family business and then pin it on the guy while claiming half the value of that business before she tanked it. That drove me nutz.
