Because I'm not sure. I know in polls when they ask guys the first thing they notice about a woman and the guys say something stupid like 'her smile', that is bullshit. Tits, thighs and ass. You heard it here first ladies. Smile comes after we check out her tits, thighs and/or ass.

So I'm going to assume people lie on questionnaires to make themselves sound mature and like good people. So do people (men and women) value intelligence or a sense of humor in a mate?

Also what role does gender play? For example, this study says men are intimidated by intelligent women.

Men are also intimidated by tall women in a way. But both height and intelligence are markers for health and nutrition (parasites and poor nutrition make you both shorter and dumber). Yet women seem to value height and intelligence far more than men do, who actually view them as negatives in many ways. Men do not value height in a woman the way women value height in a man.

Maybe concepts like height and intelligence are only valued for their ability to acquire resources, not as signifiers of health.

To the degree women value intelligence, I think they value social intelligence and emotional intelligence more. Also I think cognitive/academic intelligence is really only valued by them to the degree that it can be translated into higher levels of status, stability, income, education and wealth.

Sense of humor, no idea. Is a good sense of humor a sign of a quick wit, which is itself a sign of high social intelligence? Or do people just want a low maintenance jester to date because they are more entertaining than a high maintenance boring person?
