Now I'm not american, nor have been there for than a few months, so I can't comment very knowledgeably myself. But this just strikes me as shocking and insane.

Even for mass-murder, treason and a variety of other crimes that are considered very horrible by the law(and public), a defendant is not presumed to be guilty unless proven innocent. Meanwhile, for rape, its the reverse? This is a bizarre state of affairs I'm surprised even exists. Its like women are a protected class above all others, where a crime that predominantly concerns them gets its rules and procedures thrown out the window.

So my questions are;

  1. is this isolated or common?

  2. how is it exactly justified? This completely violates the concept of fair trial. Not to mention goes against the spirit of the law. If I were caught for rape in Washington, I would absolutely call it a monkey court.

  3. if feminism can put laws out there like this... do you think it makes a good case for people to be wary of overzealous support of feminism?
