I find this group to be very interesting and revealing to the true nature of TRP, which IMO is almost cult-like. I had a particular question about my current relationship and found TRP sub and felt they could offer some constructive advice, which some of the members did. However, I dove deeper into the underlying ideology of TRP and quickly realized that it is toxic and quickly disengaged from the community.

Below are my takeaways, both positive aspects and negative (Let me know if you agree or disagree).

Positive:

  • A goal of TRP seems to be empowering and building confidence in men. Encouraging men to become the best versions of themselves through healthy lifestyle.
  • It acknowledges and helps make members aware of the inherit emotional and psychological differences between men and woman.
  • Makes men aware of the importance of matching values with their prospective partners. I feel that too often people will rush into a serious relationship based solely off of lust and do not rationally think about whether a future with the other person is realistic based on their values.

Negative:

  • TRP creates a toxic view of woman and lumps all of them into the same category. Pushes the narrative that all woman want is to be with a man of high social status (which may be trust for some woman but certainly not all).
  • This toxic view creates a distrust of women in general, and encourages men to pursue emotionally detached relationships based around achieving sex.
  • Portrays men as victims in society and that all woman want is to use them until someone better comes along.
  • Pushes the narrative that only men can change and better themselves, but women can not. States that a woman's past mistakes will define her for the rest of her life and will always come back around to show her true colors, but a man's past does not. Example: A woman being sexually promiscuous in college means that she will always be that promiscuous college girl that will have trouble settling down - while TRP encourages men to have as many sexual relations as possible.
  • Encourages men to pursue the dark triad personality traits. Personally, as a religious man, this is something that very much deterred me from TRP as I believe honesty is always the best policy in almost all situations.

These are my opinions and takeaways from my brief time exploring TRP. I am all about becoming the best version of myself and feel that a strong community of men is important for a young man to have. However IMO, TRP pushes the narrative that woman are not to be trusted and the only way to have a successful relationship with one is to manipulate her until she is completely submissive to the man. IMO, open/honest communication and trust is the cornerstone to a successful relationship - it seems that TRP disagrees with this notion. I am very much interested in hearing this community's thoughts on my post.
