In short, women feel more shame, fear, guilt and social anxiety than men (women are more neurotic). The difference however is relatively small compared to men.Women also attribute more importance to values of altruism, love and benevolence.

Although it is not mentioned on the article, men are more impulsive, sensation-seeking and aggressive than women are. Men also have more trouble regulating sexual impulses. I'm not sure if men are worse than women regulating emotions overall, but i think this is true (women have better emotional intelligence than men).

They have. Even in a culture where stoicism is encouraged, they have emotion. In my homeland, men don't cry even if people they love very much died. My dad did not cry when my grandpa died and they had a great relationship as not only parent and child but also buddies.

I know my dad was in a lot of pain, but culture dictates that he does not express it. I feel bad for him. I am happy that my SO comes from a different culture than mine (he is from the West) and he is free to show both his strength and weakness through emotion.

Emotions are how we translate the chemicals in our brain and body, and our feelings are the reactions to those chemicals, which is an evolutionary process developed over millions of years used to guide our actions in the form of the subconsciousness. a thin layer of rationality and rationalization overlaid onto this as a consciousness doesn't make the former system go away.

So yeah, of course we have emotions.

We're taught to manage them differently than women (repress vs express), and the testosterone vs estrogen makes them come out slightly differently, but they're certainly present.

Of course. Humans have human emotions. I think the major difference in the sexes is that each sex tends to act upon and react to those emotions -and the emotions of others- differently.

These are just my personal "opinionz" and based on some observation and experiences:

The female seems to have a wider selection of interconnected emotions and/or feelings. While this can have benefits, it can also have downsides. For instance, psychologically, IMHO, women inject the outer world into their psyche and at times because of this don't pay attention to their own well being and put the outside above their inner world, and then project that state onto the outer world. It can lead to a loss of sense of the "self" or "self-awareness". Some would say this is altruism, some masochism, others would say it is narcissism, but truth be told it's in some cases simply "self-destruction" which curiously enough affects the outer world as well.

The male seems to do the opposite; projects his inner world onto the outer world and tries to detach from it by attacking the outer issues not seeing himself attached to them, and then injects it all back into himself. For instance; a dude gets into a bar fight because it's easier than dealing with introspection of any of actual problems within him that are troubling him. Sure, some of their suppression of emotions and/or feelings is connected to culture and/or society and/or media influences of course.

I am sure men do have emotions, some quite deep and/or deeper at times than those of some women of course, however suppression of some of those emotions because "it be weak, it be sissified and all that jazz" leads to male self-destruction because the ego's barriers aren't shielding him from the outside but from the inside self-realization. What you resist, persists. (to quote Carl Jung)

In certain myths you have the story about the personifications of feminine (Eurydice for instance) and the masculine (Orpheus for instance). Both of them construct one individual state of being (the unconditioned (female) mind and the conditioned (male) mind). She steps on a venomous snake (outer conditions) and "dies". He travels to the underworld and yet lacks faith (slave to outer senses) and turns back to look at her as he leads her out of the underworld and she goes back.

In a way, both of them are psychologically immature to be blunt. One can't let go of the outer world's problems without being poisoned by it, and the other can't outgrow his own fear and doubt. Without the individual's unity of each person's Psyche and Orpheus there can be no "self-realization" no matter how many emotions and/or feelings you have. All the world is within each of us in a way, this is the spiritual law some religions and/or spiritual leaders have tried to tell people but few can or want to comprehend it.

Until each individual of their own free choice "grows" they just keep injecting and/or projecting the outer world thinking themselves either completely tied to the outer or separated from the outer. You can see these patterns in everything in the world; wars, opposites that need each other to exist, various parties calling each other this or that label etc etc etc.

In a way, there is no outer without the inner. The state of our being creates our personal outer world. But this is an agony (a crucifixion if you will) to accept this and "die" (as a metaphor) to our old ideas and "resurrect" our inner self to actual freedom from the relative outer world. The outer is a mirror reflection of the inner. You can't change the outer or others. You can change your own self. Changing the self leads to change of personal outer. Not the other way around.

I would say it varies from man to man. I've met men who were more emotional than me as a woman, and I've met men who were complete robots. The counter question I have that I actually have no idea about, are there women out there who aren't very emotional and are they rare or more common than people think? Maybe the idea that men are not emotional comes from the stereotype that women are overemotional?
