I just finished this documentary about "pleasure marriages" in the middle east and it made me think about how many societal protections western women really have, both legally and culturally.

It also made me wonder if western women truly appreciated the historical levels of safety that modern western society affords them. I hear the term "rape culture" thrown around pretty liberally, even though western culture has provided the safest and least repressive environment for any woman.... Ever.

Sure, some bad men still do bad things happen to women. There are also generally good men and plenty of legal safeguards to protect women or in the worst case, at least provide some semblance of justice after the fact.

But what if literally NO man cared about women's well-being?

If all or even the majority of men collectively decided to not care about women's, rights, freedom or sovereignty, what could women really do about it?

IMO, I think women (without major technological assistance) just wouldn't stand a chance as a group and would basically become second-class citizens again for the most part. Thinking about it from every angle, I just don't see anyway for women (as a collective) to live freely or safely without some type of male support
