Is anyone else sick of this grey trend?

I feel like there are some tones of grey that are really pretty, but even then I still need a pop of color. A totally grey/white house just feels sterile and not comfy at all imo

I assume most homes get painted gray when put on the market. That's what our relator told us to do 2 years ago when we sold our home. A fresh coat of paint makes the house look cleaner. And gray for a few different reasons. One so no one has strong opinions on the color, no one feels they HAVE to paint it before they move in. Two it's easy for the next owners to paint over so there's no "oh no this is going to take forever to paint over" feeling people dread when they see a brown wall. Three while maintaining it's neturalty it makes a house still feel less sterile than all white does.

Not saying gray is still not a huge trend happening. It's just I think your constant experience with it while house shopping is most likely from realtors finding gray homes to be the most neutral and so the best color to paint a home to sell.

Now can we talk about white kitchens though? I will never understand making the room that gets the dirtiest and with the most color variety of dirty all white.

I am a dude, and I like grey. It is my favourite color - for clothing.

However, I like how my woman made our home very cozy. We have colorful velvet furniture (deep blue couch, deep red recliner chair), most metal is gold (lamps, coffee table) and everything is really heavy and sturdy. (kind of an art deco meets industrial style).

Each room has one wall painted in a strong color, the other ones are left white. Living room is matte black, work space / dining room is an earthy, greyish clay and the kitchen has a deep green.

I am also slightly colorblind, so I like strong colors a lot.

I have gray on a couple of walls a closet, a bathroom). I am a weirdo here in that I do like it lol. However I’m trying to figure out color schemes for other rooms and everything does seem to come back to gray.

Dark and jewel-toned and moody is the next thing. I like both, but dark and moody can be so cozy.

I picked a nice custom light grey to paint my living room, because when I bought the house it was painted a dark cornflower blue. It made it feel way bigger; apparently light colors will do that. It’s almost like an off-white but I decorated in white and black so it really fits the room. Bedroom is dark blue and white, kitchen is wheat and brown.

I’d really like to paint again but the ceilings are sooo high and it takes so long

And sorry if this is an ignorant question, but why were you going into houses to go shopping?

Before the grey trend it was beige, and if you look at houses from the 90’s there was a lot of apricot, every era has a colour trend, the same way fashion does. I personally don’t mind the grey, because it beats the hell out of 70’s lime green, orange and brown haha, but it’s nice to have different opinions because there’s nothing great about driving down a street and every house looking exactly the same

According to a realtor I know, "pewter gray" became the hot trendy color to paint your walls about 2-3 years ago. I don't know what's worse, that, or "builders beige" here in Florida. We've spent the last 2 years eliminating beige from the house we bought. Walls, carpets, tile... so much beige....

Never encountered that. It is always white and some version of beige.

Just painted my new house. Downstairs is a color called icicle (bluish white) and upstairs rooms are blues or greens. Never have used grey except in the garage.

I feel like gray everything is so blah!

Any color that's used on everything makes a space seem bland in my opinion. When we own a home, I'm excited to repaint walls with my fella so each room has a different vibe. His office will be dark and jewel toned, my kitchen will be yellow and floral... etc. I think we get too wrapped up in looking trendy to really enjoy the practical side of choosing colors-- to evoke a mood.

Its creeping into clothes you-- gray and oversized everything... :( So glad for the thrift stores and vintage shops near me so I can have colorful clothes.

I can understand the lack of love for grey here lol, but my ex has been renovating his house in a very modern/industrial way (think live wood, grey walls, white accents) and it’s absolutely gorgeous. The house is currently painted different shades of grey, and it matches the flooring so well!

However, we are also not in a super metropolitan area, and this trend is still very much “in” right now where we are, so maybe it’s a regional thing?

Where I live grey has not been a trend in interior walls, but has very much been a trend in exterior walls for the past 15 or so years. I picked a light grey paint for our house too some 10 years ago, I don't know if the exact shade has some brand name, but I do still 🧡 it. Together with white trims and terracotta tiling it's the best thing about our house imo. Would 100% do again. It looks near white in bright sunshine, at other times it takes on pinkish tones, depending on the light. Our doors are dark grey (anthracite was the trendy name for anything that was blackish grey back then) but I could've picked a red or green door as well.

What makes me sad though is grey houses without any color and with dark roof. Especially grey with all dark grey, dark brown or black trims and accents. Even this same light grey shade we have looks sad without the terracotta.

Or all black. Black house with black trim, everything on the yard black.

I personally love grey, because you can add any pop of color your souls desires. But I feel you. Grew up with white, white, white, and got SICK of white walls. Then beige. Ugh. I hate beige walls. To me, grey is a nice neutral, and coordinates with my dark blue couches - but there is nothing wrong with personalizing and painting whatever color makes you happy when you buy your house!

Absolutely. I hate grey now but I own so much grey clothing from shopping on trend and not paying any attention to how it looks on me. I’m pretty sure “groutfit” (gray outfit) is a thing

I'm such a lover of brown and beige tones and as we're moving now to our new home, I'm falling in love hard for grey tones! They look so classic and expensive, I feel like my loved beiges are a bit dated in fact.

Gray has no character, no interest. It can be done well but most of the time I find it boring and cold. Just moved into an apartment with a dusky purple living room and I love it.

The grey trend is done. You're shopping at the wrong places if it's still grey. Maybe they haven't been able to keep up and behind a season
