For the US:

[Your state] court repository should bring up public record search in your state. States vary from completely open and easily searchable online to requiring payment or in person search requests only.

All states also have a public sex offender registry. Usually you can search by name or by address to see if any live near you.

In the UK you can apply for information from the police under Claire's Law. They will tell you a man's prior convictions if they think its relevant.

Take it with a pinch of salt. When I applied for info on my abusive ex they said "nothing to report" when he actually had a firearms offence. I only found out when a police officer accidentally told me - purely by chance.

you can read summaries of court cases in French and in English. I was going through it to see what’s around clicking random cases and landed on an insane DV case where a Quebec guy was acquitted for killing his First Nations wife, and then I stopped. You see a play by play of how the courts work and it’s sickening, but

It’s so cool that Quebec has this public and free, and if you type in that mans name, you get that story.
