In this age, traditionally “male” chores are defunct. Those chores were centered around owning a house with a lawn or some acreage; young people are increasingly moving into the cities in apartments and condos and/or simply turning away from home ownership altogether . Women are equally present if not moreso than men, in the workforce so the “provider/homemaker” dynamic doesn’t really apply to most couples now. Even in a traditional home setting, our home appliances and vehicles are quickly becoming complex mechanical or “smart” instruments that require professional maintenance or service from the manufacturer.

I think it’s more common to expect that healthy functioning couples are splitting up the domestic chores somewhat equally. Laziness and unwillingness to clean up after yourself or help in the house is simply a sign of a bad cohabitating partner of either gender, and you can avoid that by having a conversation about expectations before moving in together, or ultimately choosing a better, more compatible life partner.

I know a little about cars, but honestly sometimes it's just better to pay a professional.

I changed a busted hose on my old Lincoln. It ended up being made like a German car where you are supposed to remove the bumber and disconnect the AC lines. I didn't want to go through all that and I didn't have the machine to pressurize the AC. It ended up taking hours and scratching up my arm. Would have been easier to just pay someone.

When men say they want a traditional women, they aren't talking about house cleaning and cooking. Machines wash my clothes, my dishes, vacuum my home, and cook my food. At best cooking is a plus, but it's not the main thing any man is looking for.

When men say they want a traditional women, they mean one who hasn't ridden the CC. There is no purpose in financially, emotionally, or legally committing to a woman who has a sexual past. All the commitment and resources a man brings to the relationship is payment for paternal certainty and the emotional satisfaction of that certainty. It's evolutionary.

Without paternal certainty, i.e. a short-term sexual market, it only makes mathematical sense for men to pursue short-term, low investment, non-committed relationships.

And paternal certainty isn't just getting a paternity test. It's the emotional security set up by evolution when a woman has not has sex with any other man. Without that emotional security, it makes no sense for a man to commit or to be exclusive. Like it or not, that's how we are evolved and it makes perfect sense as a solution to several problems.

Women can either get a committed, dedicated husband, or they can have sex with lots of Chads in their youth. It's one or the other. Women have universally decided that non-reproductive sex with men better looking than them is more important than a committed, dedicated husband. That's fine, but as long as women make this choice, no woman has the option of getting a committed, dedicated husband. The market determines what women get and how men behave, and the market is controlled by the behavior, not the words, of women.

Women set the sexual market. Men respond to it. This is why marriage and commitment is dead. Like it or not, this is the inevitable, mathematical consequence of women having sex with Chads. If you ran a simulation, it would have resulted in the same thing. Everything about the current and past mating markets is entirely intelligible and predictable. It's all math and evolution.

Really depends on the chore. I wouldn't ask out of a woman to do something way beyond her league even tho it's a "traditional role" thing. For instance, taking care of any Ill person in the house. If she isn't qualified to do so, then it would be ridiculous of me to ask for it. That's what doctors are for.

The same goes for me a as guy. I would be fine by doing some "manly" chores. But fixing my own brakes? That's gonna end up on disaster. It would be unfair for anyone to demand such thing of me.

Other minor roles can totally be done and I can subject myself to do so. If a woman can cook, I can cook. If I can fix a table, so can a woman. The thing here is only about who does what and it's fine to each fulfill your "traditional role" as long as it reciprocal in terms of time investment and energy put into it.

For example, it would be unfair of me to ask my wife to take care of the children take them to school and help them with their HW while I just unclogged a toilet - even if the roles is fulfilled by the traditional gender it's complete BS to condone such a thing.

More or less, stuff like oil, brake, and tire changes aren't all that complex and I don't even drive. Plumbing is easy enough even though I haven't had to deal with much. And electrical work I'll admit I'm not knowledgeable about but I know the basics and could probably pick up more if and when necessary.

But I also have the same skills as a traditional woman, I clean my own apartment, i do my own laundry, I cook for myself, hell I'm the only one in my direct family that knows how to bake from scratch (my mom and my sisters don't), I've even recently taken up knitting due to the pandemic (I'm still pretty shit at it but baby steps).

Maybe it's just who I socialize with but most of the people I hang out with know how to do both (at varying levels). Mainly due to necessity, because if you weren't a sheltered or well off kid at some point you were expected to know how to do a bunch of different things.

I cook and clean. I also mow and fix stuff around the house. A couple months ago, I diagnosed and fixed my AC unit. I built a garden for my wife to use. I repaired a few sections of fence. Both of our cars are essentially new so not much to be done there, but I have done a lot in the past. I recently helped my father restart an old pickup so he can sell it. I also clear drains even though it sure as hell ain't my hair clogging them.

I can pretty much do anything around the house. The only thing I am not good at is engine rebuilds. I have never done it before. I usually get new cars around 100k miles. Honestly YouTube videos are amazing. If you are even halfway mechanically competent, you can do just about anything. Electrical competency gives you the last 20%.

You probably is thinking that most guys are unable to do shit when they are just lazy or unwilling to do something with their hands... they probably can and know how to do it... they just don't want to do it. Also men are good with their hands in different things today than in our ancestors. My 14 year old cousin for example is doing simple games on his computer... a thing that the generations before them could only dream. And my great great grandpa was a smelter of iron (he made iron ingots for his brother, the blacksmith), something I think almost none of today want to do or learn.

Also, many men actually put an effort to not show their real skills, as it would lead to problems. I had an uncle who taught me carpentry. His wife did not know how good he was with it, until he got bored in this pandemic and did a lot of furniture. Now she bothers him to do everything around the house. I mean... that is why we don't go around saying we can build a house from nothing... women would want you to do exactly that... Even when asking for a professional would be way better and easier.... Pain in the arse if you ask me.

I can survive in the wilderness, but can read income statements and use Excel to make money. I am trained in Martial Arts, but can also perform EMS care to treat you.

A women who can't cook is not a turn-off for me, but I would expect her to be willing to learn, either from me or another source.

But if she cooks and cleans, then MAYBE she can get a guy that can do some minor electrical.

When it comes to oil changes, there's a lot more that goes into it to make it even worth it. Buy the time you buy the supplies you've already paid for an oil change. Then you have to put the car up and chock the tires. And you have to have the proper space to do this. Then you crawl around on the ground and drain the oil. But now you have to take it somewhere and pay them to take the discarded oil. Then you will probably need a tool to remove the filter so that's more money. It's just not worth it anymore. $50 and 10 minutes at your local mechanic is totally worth it. It's not as if women have to scrub the laundry. They just put it in a machine.

Me personally, I can do oil and brakes and install a ceiling fan. I even converted a cargo van into a camper with plenty of electrical work in there too. If you're not 'hot first', then they don't fucking care. Women these days want something shiny and new to show off to their friends. Hence why a lot of these skills have been ignored by men. If you're hot, you get pussy and don't have to work for it. You can even be a hot drug addict. As long as you're hot.

The people with "complex clothing" in the home can do their own damned laundry. Nothing I own can be wrecked in any machine on any setting. Well I can do both. I help my dad when he needs to do maintenance so I Know how to do a lot of things at home. I also do a lot of the traditional women chores like iron the clothes, cooking etc. Both of my parents taught everything so that I can live alone without worrying or marrying the first girl I see because I couldn’t do anything.

Yes. I can build a house apart from doing inspections. I can’t rebuild a motor on almost any car. I burn wood for heat and split my own wood. I’m in construction. Mostly site work, so I do work long hours. I can cook. I make it a point to cook dinner every night for my son and I. I can shoot well. I hunt. I fish. I’ve met good women, it just happened to be bad timing. Not many women I meet are interested in a more traditional relationship.

I don't mind doing general yard work (mowing lawn, leaf pickup,snow shoveling/blowing ect), but when it comes to car maintenance/repairs I'd much rather pay someone else to do it. Would the lawn maintenance be enough to make things equal or no?

And honestly as far as wanting a woman who can cook I would obviously find it really appealing if a woman was good at cooking and enjoyed it but it's not like a dealbreaker if she can't/doesn't want to.

I personally care about her being traditional more in the sense of modesty and not having slept around.

My "hands skills" are roughly at the same level as my physical strength. Worse than I'd want them to be, but better than almost all women I've ever met.

One probably cutest example is recently at my job, the team went to install some hardware in place and it turned out they don't have an Ethernet cable of needed length. They put the QC girl into a cab and send back to HQ, where I'm sitting and trying to work. She needs to cut 20 meters of cable with reasonable accuracy - and she doesn't know how, since at 10PM there's no long enough reference ruler at hand and no-one to ask it from (basically, everyone except me went home). I conjure 4 printer sheets A4 out of paper tray, lay three of them parallel to table edge, repeating - "29.7, 29.7, 29.7", and put the last one perpendicular and folded in two - "10.5". Her jaw drops, she manages to pick it up and ask - "so... it's one meter?" - "With 99.6% accuracy, plus these small gaps between sheets. Which sould be good enough" - "Where did you learn this trick?" - "I'm an artist" (spoiler: not really; I just remember stuff and can put 2 and 2 together).

Some of these things are pretty straightforward, like changing your oil, but others are really terrible comparisons with cooking and cleaning.

You can learn to do all these things from the internet, sure. But if you fuck up cooking, what happens? The food is ruined and wasted. If you fuck up cleaning, what happens? Idek how you fuck up cleaning. Now if you fuck up mounting your TV what happens? TV falls, wall damaged, TV destroyed, potentially someone is hit by the TV. How about replacing a sink or fixing a leak? Depending on the situation, you could make a far bigger problem than you started out with.

As for laying some tile, like, can you cook me a perfect beef wellington or something, this isn't comparable to your pasta-cookin ass two ingredient cooking.

Not to mention what could go wrong if you royally fuck up your brakes.

I just don't understand how you can compare cooking and cleaning with most of these things.

The traditionally male chore is bringing money home. If you don't work and use his money you should really just stfu about his ability to fix things himself. IDK why you need to add one more layer of things men need to do to barely meet your infinite standards.

It's a bit like if men were making a post like "if you want a traditional man you should do traditionally female stuff like birthing without medical assistance" this is really dumb.

On another note, fixing things yourself is a lower class thing. It's appealing to be able to do anything but your time should be worth more than fixing things around when experts can do it better in a shorter time.

Obviously everyone should be able to do the maintenance such as measuring the oil level, but changing it should really be your mechanic's job.

Obviously again as a man you should be prepared to smash spiders and lift heavy shit, but you didn't mention such things in your post.

There's a slight difference, I can pay someone to fix my car because I have a job and work hard. So I fill the male role of the 'provider', I get problems fixed.

If the stereotype of the woman is to keep the house in order, then I would expect her to 'cook and clean' - or rather, ensure food is on the table and the house is clean. If she wants to work a part time job and pay someone to do the cleaning that's fine by me.

What I don't want to do if we're having a traditional labour-sharing relationship, is earn money then use that money to pay for someone to clean my house.

A relationship is 50/50, divided however you choose, but still divided. If it stops being that then the relationship will probably fail.

This is gonna be an unpopular take but I dont think a man who want a "traditional woman" needs to be able to to "traditionally male chores". It might be unreasonable and unrealistic but its completely okay to have such a preference.

Some might call it hypocrisy and make up their own little definition of hypocrisy. Here is what the Oxford dictionary has to say:

the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case.

Wanting something you are not (sb whos traditional) is therefore not hypocritical. You are just gonna have a hard time finding someone.

My grandfather always told me stories about changing oil and brakes on the one horse they had at the farm.

In a "traditional marriage" the man works and the woman takes care of the house. The "working" part is a "traditionally male chore". Though it's not surprising at all that FDS takes it for granted.

pretty much any man with average intelligence can do most of the necessary work. you just need someone to show you or watch you tube. most of the guys i did summer work with barely had high school diplomas and were great at remodeling.

I want a traditional relationship as far as gender roles are concerned. I’m traditional in a romantic sense. But I’m very up front with the fact that I have no desire to birth my own child although I do want kids, I like a an immaculately clean house and will not achieve desired results with my own two hands nor will it be my job. I have about 5 meals I can cook really well (or so I say) so you can pick when you’d like those- I’ll grocery shop no problem- date nights necessary. Otherwise we are going to need some help. I think men find ambition attractive. It doesn’t take aspiration to know how to cook clean and whatnot. It’s adulting.

I respect the stay at home Mom, mine was one. I really think the whole stay at home mom cook clean car pool kids thing is a dying generation. In cosmopolitan metro areas for sure. It’s getting less and less affordable too- one income households don’t make sense in this economy. Bills, technology, life rules etc should be shared responsibility to upkeep.

Its a different time. Id say my equivalent on this one would be his ability to protect me. Physically and otherwise. That’s his “chore” Bc Id also like AAA and a warrantee on my vehicle. 🖤

I can actually do the traditional things. Added to that the non traditional things things like lay explosives. Make my own explosives, hack a computer, build software. Build a computer.

The other things I can include cook good food and clean probably to a much higher standard than any woman.

So while I can do those things and more I actually don't care if I a traditional woman enters my life, my rule is that I work I do what needs to be done around the home.

I expect no less from any woman, whether she wants to work or not then becomes irrelevant, she either works and contributes financially as well or she leaves, more to the point I will make her leave.

As far as I'm concerned women wanted equality, it's high time men stood up, grew a spine and enforced it. Whether it's wanted or not.

So for example I fix something in the bathroom, she can also fix something around the house, it's a large house. I do some gardening work she can also do it, I take out the bins and she can do it also. I cook and clean and so can she, I work a full week and so will she.

Does that make the life harder for that woman, probably but that's equality for you.
