Is kissing before marriage a sin?

What do you considered to be “okay” to do in a relationship? I’ve always thought that anything other than kissing should probably be avoided. Thoughts?

You're asking the wrong question here.

Chastity/purity/modesty and all these things are not some "line" that you cross but are rather a "direction."

Approaching these topics from the angle of "how much can I do until I'm sinning" is establishing a law that you have to work to keep when, as Christians, we are told to live under grace.

This is the same conceptual question that comes up over and over again in things like "is watching this movie a sin?" or "is listening to this music a sin?"

Living in grace causes us to desire to do what is right: good works, running from temptation, avoiding causing others to stumble, and so on.

So sure, there isn't anything in the Bible about kissing or not kissing until marriage. That's largely up to you in your freedom in Christ and sound judgment, but consider the direction you taking when you do more intimate things rather than trying to find the line. Is it tempting? Is it causing your potential wife stumble? How about yourself to stumble?

That should give you your answer.

I know a few couples who waited until marriage to have their first kiss. They are very happy they did.

Paul says all things are permissible to us, but not all things are profitable (paraphrased). The biggest drawback to kissing I can see is that if you haven't made your mind up about a partner, it might sway you favorably, whereas otherwise you might have went in the other direction instead had you waited.

Once you start getting physical gratification (usually sex, but also "sex lite," like kissing) from a partner, it becomes harder to evaluate them objectively. You now have skin (literally ... lol) in the game. So ... be judicious.

Secondly, do a study on all the instances of formication/sexual sin in the New Testament. They refer to temple prostitution at that time, not to kissing or physical contact between consenting adults.

Stats: weight around 166 lbs, body fat around 15%, 16 soon to be 17 in a couple weeks, 6 ft tall, max 1 rep bench was 165 last time I checked

What is your lifting routine? Are you taking your lifts seriously or just screwing around in the gym? 166lbs at 6' is small. I know because I went through highschool around 155lbs at 6'2" and 6-8% BF and was a stick figure. Here are the strength standards for your weight / age. Your bench is in the "novice" category. Fix this. Get on a real lifting program. Don't neglect your squat and deadlift. Figure out how to eat to fuel your muscle growth. You are in the prime of your life to get a head start on this. If you can hit the gym seriously you can enter your 20s miles ahead of most men and you will have far more abundant opportunity to be selective with women.

This is fantastic career path. See if you can get your GED and get started early. I'm dead serious. My brother is working on becoming a Journeyman and has incredible job prospects. Talk to a union rep tomorrow and learn the fastest way to start putting in the hours as an apprentice. I promise you there is nothing in highschool you will learn that will be as valuable or that you couldn't learn watching a 10 minute Youtube video or listening to podcasts. Government schools are for people who ride the short bus, not enterprising young men who want to get their life in order.

In short: You won't find a verse that says, "any sort of sexual activity between people before marriage is a sin." The longer answer is, the general consensus is that the Bible forbids sexual activity outside of covenant union. What constitutes sexual activity or covenant union? You'll get a variety of answers depending on who you ask.

Better question: why at 16 are you even worried about this? Yes, girls are hot and make tents in your pants. Cool. Guess what? Girls in highschool are nearly without exception a waste of time and a distraction from establishing yourself. You will be better served by lifting, getting your journeyman, and building up your position as a man. In your 20s you will be far ahead of your peers, have abundant opportunities with women, and plenty of options to choose what you want to do in life. This is the path I went down and have zero regrets.

Former Owen Benjamin fan, when he went on Rogan he was funny and then as time went on he went in Crowder and Gavin’s show and started affiliating with the online right wing community.

Here’s where he goes wrong. He takes everything as a slight to himself. Very narcissistic like most comedians are. He’s entertaining, but I wouldn’t take advice from non-believers. He’s riding the coat tails of Christianity to try and Trojan horse his way into the online “trad” community. Which is mostly cosplay almost all of them aren’t actually serious.

Read more scripture. Find older Godly men at your church and ask them to get coffee when COVID is over.

Second, we have a post titled "An Official Stance on Sex Outside of Marriage," indicating that the question early on in this sub's histor was whether or not SEX before marriage was even sin (conclusion: it is). Now you're suggesting that even kissing might be too?

Per ruiz's post I linked above, you have to look at Romans 14:14 and 23. If you're doing it because of your faith, it's not sin. If you're doing it for any other reason, it is. 14:14 makes it clear that there are no particular acts that are always sin no matter what, so don't get hung up on whether "this" or "that" is sin. Like Deep said, focus more on the direction you're moving.

Owen is awesome. I've been watching his streams from the beginning and am an UnauthorizedTV subscriber.

I totally get why there should be no sexual activity outside of marriage. None. There is no such thing as moderation. Kissing will lead to touching which will lead to intercourse. It would be very difficult for it not to. If you want to marry a Christian girl and lead a Christian life, why dabble in something that would likely lead to sex outside of marriage?

I wish I could go back, find one good Christian girl and marry her, both as virgins. Both me and my wife are divorced and both of us have had previous lovers and it does kinda ruin things. I'm envious of the couples who met as virgins, married and never experienced anyone else.
