Hey, so, I’m a little new here and I was wondering why Single mom is such a big warning sign other than the poor decision making (if she’s young)
Thanks ahead of times
[–]OhNoBearIsDriving141 points142 points143 points 5 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
Because they expect you to pay for their kids, you're always below the kids in importance and you can never be a true dad to them, either the mother will tell you early on, or the kids will throw 'you're not my real dad' at you whenever they are displeased with you
[–]NohoTwoPointOh83 points84 points85 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
The poor decision-making part is huge, because it isn't just her that she put at risk. She put the life of a child at risk as well. I won't beat to death the stats on children raised by single mothers. Let's just say that single moms are factories for creating school shooters, pole riders, cell mates and hard drug users.
[–]cookiesandspleen0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I think that's a little harsh. Surely in some cases, separating with the father was justified.
[–]BarryManilowsGayLuvr44 points45 points46 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, like when the father is messed up from being raised by a single mom.
[–]MillennialDan22 points23 points24 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Consider that this is still bad decision making, since it means her selection was bad, which is inexcusably common.
[–]NohoTwoPointOh20 points21 points22 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
She made several choices:
She chose to date the dicey guy.
She chose to have unprotected sex with someone dicey.
She chose to let a dicey guy ejaculate inside her.
She chose to have a baby with someone dicey.
Sure, there are some dicey guys who pretended to be good, but were not. But knowing what we know, how many women follow the tingles instead of a (boring) good man who would be a good provider and pair bonder?
As for me being harsh, reality is harsh. The stats on single mothers and terrible outcomes for children have been proven. Am I harsh or are are the stats harsh? Which? That's like calling me harsh for saying that "liver cancer usually kills".
ETA: Cheers for the silver.
[–]TheDemeisen10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Indeed, but a precedent has been set, if she can leave the father of her children, you are going to be far easier to leave for a upgrade. On top of that, you will have formed relationships (possibly even loving relationships) with her kid(s), and you will just be cut off from them. It's not worth it imho.
[–]cookiesandspleen0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I completely agree it's not worth it. I just think there's plenty good other reasons to avoid it besides blaming them all for the divorce.
[–]Quenten0149 points50 points51 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And then when you try to discipline them, the mom gets mad
[–]HelmutHoffman16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Also they always keep a thing for the baby daddy.
[–]hrm08947 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly, and the child will just see you as an obstacle for his/her mommy and daddy getting back together.

Single moms that are young (age 16-24) should be avoided by both men and women. Don't befriend them. Don't hook up with them. There are seriously messed up. Many mental issues and they will only cause you problems. Most single moms end up staying single well into their 30s and 40s if not forever. Most men know that they are trash.
[+]HISPANICGO-6 points-5 points-4 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Holy shit dude, most men know they’re trash? That’s a little ridiculous, there are plenty of single mothers out there who take good care of their kid and work hard for them. Jeez I don’t know why this subreddit hates single moms, you guys seem to have stereotyped them into terrible people when in reality they’re just trying to live their life. It’s absurd to assert that single mothers are trash just because they are single mothers, they are people for gods sake.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I've known a couple single moms. One was a friend. She was trash. I was foolish to view her as friend.
[–]HISPANICGO-1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Oh we’re going the anecdotal evidence route? I’ve known a couple myself, and in my case they were kind, caring women who loved their kid, and took great care of them. What I am saying is its wrong to generalize people like that. Not every single mother is fucked up. They deserve friends just like anyone else.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They do not deserve anything except having their tubes tied
[–]Jugrnot832 points33 points34 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I love kids and had mine taken from me by their shit mother and dated single mothers often. There are so many different versions but most of them are pretty horrible.
Some common attributes i have not seen mentioned in this thread is how they live for so much attention from multiple men while they are supposedly amazing mom's but are not stop lining up dick for their weekends.
They all claim to be so amazing bc they are a single mother and they act like you are a cold and they are so superior regardless their clear inability to make good decisions or be decent mothers.
They are typically just horrible for anything more then a fun time every other weekend.
To be fair I've met a couple amazing single mothers. Both happened to be truly independent and not dealing with their exes or getting child support. They didn't spend their lives in a man's pockets or men's pants. They did what they should be doing and where bad ass and too responsibility for their lives and their children.
[–]r1chten23 points24 points25 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Unless the guy rapes the woman, she is 100% responsible for spreading her legs, not properly vetting the man, and bringing bastards into the world. It fundamentaly shows she has poor decision making and to add insult to injury the presume new male is seen as a bailout.

All the reason already stated plus: do you realise what happens to a woman's body during childbirth? I don't want children so for me a woman is nothing more than a sexual object and a status symbol. After childbirth or after she gets to a certain age her value is lost.

That was in the 90’s, right? I think I stopped caring about The Simpsons around 2001-2002. At that time they lost something. Then I’d just watch the old episodes.

My mother used to be a single mom for basically my whole life. She ran into my father and had me, he became a drug addict and left us becoming addicted to whatever he is on, my mom raised me all on her own making sure she paid her bills, took care of me, and had everything handled
She didn’t do anything, she hasn’t gone into more abusive relationships, she’s in a solid one currently and had been for a very long time now.
It’s a shame to see this sub be so over generalized. And no I don’t disagree with MGTOW ways, I’m the complete opposite.
My mother was amazing and even if she was a single mom, she did an amazing job doing so and raised me very well and I’m glad for that.
[–]PabloEscoba31 points32 points33 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I still would not get with a single mom. Im not raising someone elses kids no matter the circumstances
[–]GuyComedy15 points16 points17 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
And that’s totally respectable, I will agree that most single mothers are horrible and I wouldn’t want to get with any either, I want to make very clear that’s not what I’m trying to say
I’m not saying to give single mothers a chance because mine was actually good, what I am saying though is there are some good single mothers.

Most of what I wrote is my own version of what I saw, not what she told me.
And no, he was not addicted to any drugs before she met my mother, I know this from Other people I’ve talked to (all men btw) who told me his drug addiction started when my mother had me.
I’m guessing his drug addiction started from having a kid and not wanting to take care of me and this led to him making foolish mistakes, mistakes I can never forgive him for.
I now never had a father who did stuff with me, had father son bonding, picked me up from school, chatted with me when I got home from school, or gone on trips with. He was never there for me in my life, he never gave me anything, he only tried to talk to me on my birthday and he would talk about how he misses me and wants to see me, but then never talked to me again. He was a horrible father who contributed nothing to my life.
The point I’m trying to make here, is even though the majority of single moms tend to be horrible people, there are some really good single moms and it was the fathers fault, also another point is there are dads out there who are far worse than the women, like mine.
[+][deleted] 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
[–]GuyComedy6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No, the “men” that I discussed with were really only friends with my father, they didn’t even talk to my mother. And yeah you’re right you don’t just start taking drugs and become addicted. He didn’t leave right when I was born, he left me at the age of 2, his drug addiction built up over the course of two and a half years.
I don’t think you’re an asshole at all and I can understand what you are trying to tell me here, you want me to be cautious when it comes to me being a father, and I understand and respect that, but I still politely disagree with your views on all single mothers.
[–]jigaboorainstorm5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This 100% is absolutely true I went through this and with adult eyes and contact with my father know what happened.
My mothers behaviors show also she treats me with contempt and sabotages as I remind her of my father.
This women are super innocent shit is for the birds. None of them are, if they are it’s a single digit percent in this world.
[–]fluffypinkblonde-2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
So your dad wanted to see you but never did? I wonder if there was anything else going on. Like your mum telling him not to see you.
[–]GuyComedy2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah no, never the case. I had his number and she didn’t even know what it was. He would call and talk to me on my birthday and that’s it.
[–]demonkobra3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
you dont know what really happened
[–]GuyComedy11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
You have no right to say that, you can’t tell me that throughout all my whole life from what I saw and from what I’ve discussed with many people that I don’t know what really happened. You don’t know what happened
[–]NotMyWomen7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link
You don’t know what happened
That’s a straw man: he never made the argument that he knew what happened.
And I highly doubt that your dad just woke up one day and became a drug addict; there are plenty of warning signs outside of lighting a crack pipe that show an individual has an increased propensity for drug addiction.
Your “mom” was an idiot who thought either your dad was attractive or that she could fix him.
That’s all it comes down to.
[–]GuyComedy6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Yeah no, he left me at the age of 2 his drug addiction built up over the course of three years. You have your own opinion, but I disagree with you.
[–]jigaboorainstorm10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Bro. My real dad? Same story. I watched him break my mothers jaw. I also watched her push him, and my mother turned out to be BPD/NPD traits and has pushed me as I got older lashes out.
Guess what? He was driven to that, doesn’t excuse his actions but my batshit now super Christian single mother is absolutely a monster in her own way and he couldn’t have stayed if he didn’t have problems or was bear normal.
[–]fluffypinkblonde6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Ever noticed how a lot of women get in abusive relationship after abusive relationship? Button pushers.
[–]hazardmfj1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Saying BPD/NPD is like saying autistism/trisomy21. Though both very tough, they're 2 separate things.
[–]NotMyWomen5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
There’s no “opinion” involved when I say that choosing to open your legs as a female, most likely unprotected, for a male who is either a drug addict or has exhibited clear signs of drug addiction or other related dysfunctions (and if she didn’t even know him long enough to see the signs, that makes it even worse), is flagrantly immoral and asinine.
Especially given the sheer number of men who work hard everyday, hail from good families, and yet are not on the radar for females because they’re not tall enough, or they’re not macho enough, or a freckle on their left cheek is 6 and a half degrees longitudinally unsatisfactory.
And if that wasn’t enough, they get to read, every single time they boot up their internet browser, “featured” articles by used up females about how there’s no men left for them to date.
That’s it.
[–]GuyComedy5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
He had no clear signs he was on drugs, because he wasn’t on drugs. Plain and simple. Yes, it is an opinion. I politely disagree with you
[–]fluffypinkblonde0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. It would be a pitty to exclude women whos partner died. If it was an accident, and a bit of time passed, maybe it could be done. It still is very risky, and at the same time, if the kid is older than 1 year, or a girl, I would not risk it.

I agree that it seems like an overly-harsh generalization. Most situations aren’t so black and white.
I usually enjoy the content in this sub as most of it is tied to truth that most people have trouble accepting. That being said, there is a heavy degree of generalization and anger in responses sometimes that only serves to help the critics point at a small portion of the community and cry hate group/etc. It’s a shame that we’ll get downvoted for pointing out an overreaction to an otherwise true and funny meme.

I remember when I first started college, I showed up to my first class early and found a seat. Girl sits next to me, around 19, very pretty face and she had a fit body. We're talking and she seems into me, almost beaming just asking each other questions. As we're hitting it off, I ask her what she likes to do in her free time and she says "Oh, nothing, I just like spending some time with my son"...I must have instantly made a face or something when she said that because I can see her bright smile turn into a face of sadness. Luckily, the Professor showed up and the conversation ended. For the next class, I sat somewhere else, far away from her and we didn't talk. Towards the end of the semester, she tried talking to me again but all my responses were short and to the point. Sometimes I'd see her around campus and she'd say hi and try to talk, but I'd always tell her I was busy.
I grew up in a single mother household, it was hell and I had no choice back then. Now that I'm an adult, I don't want to get involved with single mothers and luckily, I never have to.
