It is standard practice on this sub, and its sister subs, to respond to many, if not most, questions, complaints and existential predicaments with the sage admonition ... lift.

Of course, heavy compound lifts are most likely to engender alpha results than lesser movements, and I do these fairly regularly. However, one, and sometimes two, days a week, I do a dumbbelled down version.

My classroom is large enough to do a small circle farmer’s walk with a 50lb dumbbell in each hand.

I stop at the end of each min lap and perform various other exercises such as curls, hammer curls, bent over rows, upright rows, goblet squats, goblet caries, thrusters, triceps extensions with a single dumbbell, renegade rows, kickbacks etc.

The possibilities are almost endless. I will walk a lap and then perform whatever movement comes to mind. I know some guys are obsessive about counting reps, but I prefer to perform each exercise with good form and moderate pace till the movement becomes difficult to perform in the proper form … as close to functional failure as possible. I never count reps. When I complete the indefinite set, I will walk again, or do another set if the mood strikes me. If I tire, I will set the pair down till I regain my strength … and breath. I try to continue for about 15 minutes, moving as much as possible. I am constantly having to adjust my mini-workout to accommodate whatever muscle group is fatigued at any given time.

I execute this routine twice a day, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon. Again I tend to do this once or twice a week, usually with 3-4 days between.

I fully expect to be admonished by some of the younger guys that since the bar isn’t bending I must be pretending, but these workouts seem to have helped my overall strength and endurance.

Don’t worry bro; I still deadlift.
