Make something yourself. Geometric shapes, drawings, video game stuff are all doable. Look up some DIY tutorials.

I would recommend checking out some general wall art searches off Etsy. Ebay can work as well as craigslist. Don't fall into the trap of expensive = awesome, sometimes it most definitely is not. You can get some great deals there on stuff. As far as masculine items, I go for metallic art, landscapes or hobby interest art, masculine figurines or sculptures, and manly antiques. If you can, some drop lighting or a source of lighting to highlight things takes something from okay to great. Classy presentation is everything. Make your apartment interesting but an extension of you.

Example: If you're into music, some framed albums, a guitar in the corner, an end table made from an old amp, a large wall art piece of a concert, etc. Insert your hobbies and interests using the same principle.

If you don't have any good hobbies that fit, go with a travel theme leveraging things you collect along the way, or if all else fails, some modern art that highlights the room.
