Yeah, now that I lift, I notice how most men have skinny, weak looking arms. Unless fat, most men do not naturally have large arms. The exceptions (aside from lifters) are guys with freaky good genetics or have a hard labor job. It is foolish for your body to spend energy building and maintaining unused muscle, so it's natural state when a sedentary guy is skinny fat.

What is striking about this video is the degree to which these young men have adopted a highly feminized way of talking about themselves. They speak about an externally created "standard" (vs. an ideal) of attractiveness as if it was arbitrary, and hamster at length about the unattainability of these "perfect" bodies, even when 2 out of the 4 examples they chose are men who went from being physically average to "perfect" in a very short time.

This is a deeply female frame. I am shocked.

Physically I was just like these guys for all of my Teens, 20s and early 30s, but I never would have spoken about myself using such feminized language.

The saddest thing about watching this is knowing that these men could look and feel much better, with much less time time and effort than they ~~imagine~~ (hampster.)

I'm reminded of a story I heard about Arnold Schwarzenegger. When he was growing up he had pictures of male models and body builders on his bedroom wall. His parents thought he was gay. In reality he was learning about ideal proportions, beauty, and setting goals for himself.

When these guys see how thin and sickly their arms are they don't say "I'm going to start doing push ups every day" instead they talk about loving themselves more and not giving in to society's standards and how having strong arms would mean they were failures in other aspects of life. Complete hamster rationalizations.

I work out a lot and even though I haven't achieved my ideal I'm in a much better place as a failure than if I had done nothing and simply considered myself "beautiful" or "healthy." If you shoot for the stars, even if you fail you will have reached the moon, or whatever the quote is. The point is strive. Strive in everything that you do. Admit that you want something and start setting goals and working for it.

Chris Pratt is my role model when it comes to fitness. Look at what that guy did, it's awesome. He got some crazy face gains as well. He even posted gym selfies so you can see what he really looks like without the movie special effects and lighting.

I have lost 22.5 pounds as of today, via a low calorie high protein diet, lifting and doing HIIT cardio. As soon as I lose 15 more pounds I'm going to start bulking. Goal is to look like Chris!

This video makes me angry. I was fat and then skinny fat for most of my life only really pushing myself withing the last year or two and have seen huge improvements. Never during that time would I have tried to deny I was fat. I knew I was and I was lazy. People would try and be nice about it but I knew and I was embarrassed. .....So when the hell did we switch the shame I had that drove me to get fit into bullshitting ourselves?

I barely made it through that video, so much cringe. It's so pathetic to hear them make all the excuses about how hard it is to attain such physique. Hearing those guys hamster about how you can only look like that if you don't have to work, are wealthy, have a trainer and nutritionist made me pity them, and realize just how lazy they are.

I work full time (graveyard even), have my son 4 days a week, and do online courses. I have lost 50 pounds over the course of 8 months by only changing my diet. And I'm only NOW starting to go to the gym 3 days a week, because I want more, so I have to put more work in. I strive for a better me, a better physique. And to hear them say I can't achieve that is an insult, when I'm well on my way.

They can't stand up for themselves against themselves and demand higher standards, so how can they expect to get high SMV women?

All you have to be is be a non-dumbass. They can get everything they want if they take two hours and read this.

Building muscle is a lot of hard work, almost anyone that is reasonably intelligent can realise this intuitively, the men in this video do want to look their best but are afraid of putting in the work at the gym and therefore make feminine excuses to not only make themselves feel better but to also gain female approval.

Also, they only seem to pay attention to the surface value of being ripped and not what it actually signifies, well developed muscles are a sign of strength and good health. Who doesn't want to be strong and healthy just becuase they don't have the time? This is pathetic.

I watched this guy's reaction for myself. This is what denial looks like. The image was done to the point it convinced him that, he could look like that. But in reality he doesn't. Therefore, in order to protect his ego he projects his insecurities onto an imaginary man with his face.

I'm pretty sure these guys were not prepared to see what they could look like, who they could be.

From their reactions, I can't feel justified in mocking them. Instead I pity them for just how much their line of work must torture them (they are called the "try guys", literally human test subjects. Some of their other videos have them being put in drag and made to perform in front of their loved ones.)

I think you guys may have missed the point that the video is implying: the media can craft ideal body images using photoshop alone, therefore being ripped could be considered fraudulent. Buzzfeed is suggesting that most of what we see is a lie anyway, an unrealistic goal, while at the same time the four (horsemen) are saying they'd be lying to themselves to pursue such a vain and hollow goal. A sort of Orwellian doublethink if you will. This is beta programming at it's finest.

Also, many of you are suggesting they could reach the Ronaldo type physique with a little dedication, but the truth is it does take tremendous effort, consistency and discipline to build that kind of physique, not just 3hrs/week. I've been lifting for 3 years and just now reaching a head turning level of physique. And I push myself more than average. I think most professional trainers will tell you it truly does take years to reach the top levels (without gear).

Lifting/working out 3 times a week is not really that huge of a commitment. I feel like being skinny and flabby as a man shouldn't be that much of an insecurity. I mean I'd be happy if I was a bit taller but shit I'm happy with how I look. I do exercise regularly which has helped me look like what I want to look like though.
