I heard this story on the radio today about poor men having an inordinate amount of free time that they spend largely just playing video games and watching tv. They talk about how this population use to be the backbone of the american economy.

The most surprising part is that this segment of society is actually more content than they were a decade ago.

I immediately thought of TRP when I heard this. There is a lack of incentive when it comes to participating in the economy, and I'd wager that the crumbling of marriage has severely disincentivized working hard. Without the realistic prospect of a halfway attractive, loyal partner, kids and a home that can't be taken away at the drop of a hat, there is little reason for most guys to produce any more than what little they need to support a bachelor lifestyle.

I was pleasantly surprised that the journalist at least briefly mentioned that these men are simultaneously dropping out of the dating market.
