The most irritating thing about Forrest was his obsession with that mediocre bitch.... I couldn't stand it.
[–][deleted] 177 points178 points179 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Forrest was legitimately retarded, that's why.
[–]0-0-0183 points84 points85 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Maybe that's the real message of the film. Fellas, don't be retarded about worthless women.

Hol up. Jenny was hot af. I would definitely have bought her a sandwich if it led to sex. And maybe a drink.

It was sad when you look back, because you didn't know if "Forrest Jr." was Gump's kid after all. Poor Forrest got manipulated, and probably wouldn't have done a DNA test, believing Jenny because well, he was "simple" and gullible.

A very common red pill hidden in so much of Hollywood.
The overt message: Men, worship women because you're lucky to have them in your presence.
The covert red pill: women only see men as a utility to enhance their life (because they can't do it alone), and they will use them directly or indirectly for that end.
[–]Jarin0177 points78 points79 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
One thing about that movie that I don't think most people realize was that Jenny was the villain of the tale. Forrest would have been so much happier if he had never met her.

[–]Texan21161 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I do not disagree with this at all. There are in fact, a lot of older students who go to college for their own edification. My earlier reference was to the person, who at 50, is in debt, chasing some dream job, that due to their age, probably aint gonna happen.
[–]Elonine5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not 30's but I didn't start college until I was 26. I tried dating some classmates, but they'd open their mouth and stupid 19 year old bullshit would come out. There were a few girls closer to my age I would talk to, but... It became very obvious that their standards had been taken so much higher than I could satisfy. (showing me pictures of their international vacations, things like that). Could have been a problem specific to NYC though.

I need to rinse my eyes out after reading that horseshit.
Jenny may have been molested, and I fully agree that that can lead to them being unable to form stable relationships or pick partners wisely. So if all she did was run away from Forrest and shack up with douchebags for 30 years, then maybe she deserves some sympathy for never getting the help needed to overcome her childhood trauma.
But she *used* Forrest at the end. The way he loved her as an adult was likely no different than the way he loved her when they were kids. Certainly no different than the way he loved her in college or in their 20s. If she felt that somehow she couldn't "take advantage" of a retarded person when they were younger, well... he certainly didn't become un-retarded when he grew up. And she certainly didn't get any therapy to overcome her trauma and now find good men like Forrest attractive. The only thing that changed was that he was rich, and she was washed up, about to die soon, and no longer could attract the douchebags she was attracted to all her life.
[–]Thinguy12330 points31 points32 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If she felt that somehow she couldn't "take advantage" of a retarded person when they were younger,
Lmao Jenny is such an hypocrite,
"no Forrest you cant smash this pussy because that would be taking advantage of you but somehow using your millions and unhealthy devotion to me to raise a child that may not be yours is perfectly fine and somehow not the textbook definition of taking advantage"
Even if the child was his, Forrest didn't knew he was a father and would likely never would have known if Jenny hadn't got aids riding the CC, it took Jenny to face her own mortality to swallow her pride and face that she conceived a child with a retard OR took her own mortality to conceive a plan to trick a mentally challenged man into raising her son.
Pick your poison, both are horrible scenarios.

When I was a kid I thought the movie was pretty great and creative, though there were a couple references here and there I was a bit fuzzy on. A couple teachers expressed their dislike of some parts of the film but I didn't really understand their criticisms. I remember one had a problem with Jenny, and another derided the film for being creatively bankrupt and unoriginal. I didn't get that, but looking back now, I do: shove a bunch of references to random shit everyone knows about, tie it in to the main story, tada, you're an artistic genius. Like the cringe that was Ready Player One, except for the 1960s and 70s. Reference dumping doesn't make you clever.
As I got older I understood that there was an undercurrent of bleeding heart bullshit running underneath it, and that it was trying to be political without being outright political. I understood why the adults were divided then even though the film was regarded as a "classic," and now that I'm even older, even that fact is called into question. You only have to look at Rotten Tomatoes to understand that critics absolutely do not grade a film on the quality of the craft required to make it and its merits as an actual artistic creation.
[+]ShakesTheDevil-6 points-5 points-4 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
You should listen to Ready Player One on audio book. Narrated by Wil Wheaton. All the references make a lot more sense when you hear the actual story portrayed in the book.
[–]AthenianCitizen16 points17 points18 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The problem with the references isn’t that they don’t make sense. It’s that they are a cheap way to endear you to a mediocre story. Hey remember Atari? Remember the band Rush? Oh I remember! So cool!
Ready Player One was reference after reference. It got old.
[–]ShakesTheDevil-4 points-3 points-2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It was a nostalgic trip. That's why I liked it. The movie was so far off from the book I don't actually consider them the same story.
The book was a story about a game made by a guy who was obsessed with gaming and pop culture. It would have been weird if it wasn't chock full of actual references.
[–]neoj88885 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That was the worst shit I’ve ever listened to. It’s the only Audible book I’ve returned. And that garbage is rated like a 4.7 average. People are retarded.
On that note; books rated in the 3.9-4.3 range is the sweet spot. If everyone loves a book it’s usually pretty bad.
You ok man?

Right, the movie doesn't really tell you exactly what Jenni got. What we do know is that the timeline in the movie when young Forest is born is sometime in the early 1980's, doctors aren't able to identify what Jenni was suffering from, and Jenni had a long history of substance abuse and sex with God knows who.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and thinking "Jenni is a stupid cunt." I feel like this was a piece of the puzzle that redpilled me early on in my life well before redpill was a thing.
[–]MC_Batsy1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

During the Aids epidemic of the 80s when doctors weren't sure exactly what aids was?
no to mention that Jenny lifestyle made this extremely obvious about what disease she was talking about
but sure, it was hepatitis
[–]Ottawareader62-5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yes, it was hepatitis: https://forrestgump.fandom.com/wiki/Jenny_Curran
[–]Thinguy1234 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
a retcon in a sequel book to undo the unfortunate implications about the kid having aids and keep the "happy ending" feel, i'll take it but whatever
i could say that the movie doesnt make clear about it (and movie about books often deviate from the source), but thats just arguing for the sake of arguing in my part, so whatever the point still stands Forrest was a honest guy who got completely shit on by Jenny until she needed him
