Simple biology. A man can pass on his genes to hundreds of women in the space of nine months so our standards tend to be lower, evolution wise it didn't matter if we got a 5/10 pregnant. Women on the other hand need to spend at least nine months per child, so it makes sense that they'd want only want to devote that time for a higher standard of mate and not waste that portion of her fertile years raising a chinlet hairlet manlet sprog.

Height is a big factor for attraction in men, for a lot of women. How many times have you heard, "6 ft+", or seen it on a dating app? The reality is this:

In the U.S. population, about 14.5% of all men are six feet or over.

With this single trait, women eliminate the vast majority of men from their dating pool. Men don't tend to care about height, and if they do, most women are not abnormally tall as is (because most men prefer someone shorter, on average). Fact is, height is an attraction feature for a lot of women.

Women have ways of masking their flaws:

Makeup which hide their facial imperfections is the big one
Wearing outfits in a way to mask their imperfections. For example, have you ever seen girls at the gym with their belly showing, but, their pants are covering their lower belly (fat)?

Now of course, these things are NOT technically limited to just women, but how many straight men in America do you know wear makeup in day to day life? There's a social stigma against it that makes most men never ever consider doing so, even though it certainly would improve their looks.

However, I would also acknowledge women do care more about their looks on average, so this is another component to consider. Who on average, is more likely to do skin care routines? To go get laser treatments or micro needling, or whatever they call those things for the skin?

Men have a much wider scale for what they think is "attractive" compared to women. Men will be into slim women, muscular women, chubby women, fat women, tall women, short women, etc. Same seems to go for gay men as well, though I can't speak for them obviously. Women on the other hand seem to have a much narrower view of what they're looking for, so finding that makes attractive men "scarce" in their eyes. Just guessing here, obviously.

Men who are dealing with sex scarcity think they think everyone is “dateable” because they’re sex or touch or intimacy starved.

Men who aren’t desperate for sex don’t think every woman is dateable and are pretty picky when it comes to who they’re willing to commit to or allow themselves to fall in love with.

Also when women say attractive they mean “He meets my arousal standards. My presence standards. My personality standards. And my lifestyle standards.” As in he’s attractive all around.

Because men provided more value to women when our roles in the home and society were separated. Women don't need men anymore. When needs are met, women look to what they want, and they want qualities few men possess, leading to an abundance of women for a few men, leading to non-commitment from the man, because he can and he has the sexual drive to do so.

So, women are pickier (see it from the POV of Maslow's hierarchy of needs) and the quality of men have decreased compared to women. More men have a precarious job status compared to the past. This isn't just about men and women, it's about the foundations of our economic system that are creating too much inequality at the moment. Remember, relationships have for most of history been about financial security, not love, I think we're swinging back in that direction.

Both sexes tend to compete with other men or with other women in financial prowess these days.

My take on this is that male and female physical attractiveness is roughly equal, BUT that women spend a lot more time and resources on looking good. Think of the size of the cosmetics and fashion industry aimed towards women in comparison with men. There is so much 'secret' work gone into a woman's appearance! Btw, I say this as plainish looking woman who can, after applying makeup and a nice outfit, appear to magically move up the ranks of attractiveness. Once I'm safe at home it all disappears again.

A final thought is that I see this disparity negatively affecting both sexes. Women (in my life): often enormously paranoid about appearance, in a never ending tide of 'not being good enough', pushed by media/culture etc etc. Leads to insecurities.

Men (in my life): don't have as many options to change their appearance, and can be made to feel uncomfortable in wishing to do so. They're stuck with what genetics gave them. Leads to insecurities.

There is a difference between "good", "attractive" and "I'd date this person". I know lots of men who are attractive and/or good in my book, but it doesn't mean I'd date all of them. It's hard to find the right person, not just good, and everyone has their own definition of what makes one right.

Both genders have problems with it, but most people eventually do find someone and get married. The most noise "where all good men/women are" comes from people who can't find anyone due to a bunch of reasons.

This could very well be for an advertising industrial complex set up promoting that they’re not doing enough to keep pretty in order to sell makeup and other cosmetics. If we are speaking about looks only i would say that estrogen & cosmetics + accessories (things that men exclusively dont have/use) account for 50% of women being attractive & that mens low standards boost their attractiveness and that contributes to women's high standards.

The other 50% of this is genetics. All attractive men have good genes and probably look about the same right out of bed & clean up even better. A lot of women don't look anything like the self that they present to people when they first wake up.

Similar question an average woman might ask is, "why most men are stronger than me?" The answer is same. Men ate first because they had to be strong and statisfied to take down other men, they gave left over to women who again had to share it with her baby thus reducing the calories available to her further. This overtime sexually selected for smaller women who could survive with less calories or the one could conserve more calories. And smaller women are easier to physically overpower and could have resulted in positive selection for them in a world where you had to control too much to have any odds of surviving. Other than this men figured out they could take each others women and their resources by killing competing men, so this competition further made men much stronger than women.

I'm not sure attractiveness is what women are referring to when they say "a good man is hard to find". They're referring to a number of factors that go into making a good partner - and one of them probably is actual "goodness" as in moral goodness. For example, 30% of men in my country (standard industrialized western european nation) have criminal records - not good people, and going to be an incredibly shaky bet for a partner. Compare that to under 5% of women who have one. More men have problems with alcohol and illicit drugs (bad bet again), then you have the men who beat their wives, the common or garden misogynists who may or may not hit you but will certainly treat you like crap, the ones who can't or won't hold down a job, who get in fights every weekend - there are a lot of men who display antisocial behaviors of one kind of another. That's not to say women don't, but in smaller numbers, to a less severe degree, and usually less frequently. Add all that up and it's a smaller pool of men that are going to be reliable, respectful, and give the kind of emotional support most women would want in a partner. But honestly, I'd say the majority of the time I have heard a woman use this phrase they have been talking about men cheating.

It makes sense to say that women are biologically more "valuable" because they are the rate limiting factor. As a result nature gets a little more experimental with men. For example, with many traits there is more variability in males compared to females, resulting in more males than females in the top and bottom of the IQ distribution. 8,000 years ago, 17 women reproduced for every one man. This means that the most valuable men tended to monopolize women (but that doesn't mean that those other men didn't sometimes help raise the children, thinking they were theirs).

Our evolutionary goal is to pass on our genes.

Men can impregnate an infinite amount of women across his whole life so it serves his evolutionary purpose to find a wide range of women physically attractive, and not care so much about the other non-physical stuff.

Women can only pass on their genes once every 9 months for a limited window of time and have to carry the child, feed the child and raise the child. So it serves her evolutionary goal to only find the top tier men physically attractive so that her limited number of children have the best genetics possible. She does not want to waste one of her few opportunities to procreate on a man with bad genetics. And because evolutionary speaking men are going to be the protectors and providers, it makes more sense that women desire men who have high social standing and resources also. Whereas a woman's high social standing and resources isn't going to benefit a man as much so he cares less about it.

It's really that simple. Women have naturally higher standards for everything - looks, status, social value, resources etc.

In a completely unregulated dating market then I believe the top men end up with harems of women, which we're seeing a little bit now but will become even more apparent over the coming decades.

You can start out with an equal number of female and male 3,4,5,6,7+ etc however the women who are sub 7 will use make-up, styling methods, cosmetic procedures both invasive and non invasive to bump themselves up. I think it has something to do with our base/primal mating strategies. women are usually the gatekeepers of sex so it makes sense that they are pickier than men.

When Women start aging and bearing children, their marketability to single males and overall mating availability drastically declines. There’s a long term downtime from pregnancy and child rearing. Then eventually there is menopause and loss of youth/aesthetics (biggest lizard brain sexual attraction factors for men). Because her mating and reproductive availability is limited, she’s going to pick the best mating partner with desirable genes. She is also going to try to lock one down to play protector and provider for her & the children to better guarantee their survival. She’ll also vie for exclusivity or even actively confuse potential fathers into providing for other men’s children to better secure her preferred mate as a source of resources.

Conversely men are trying to spread their seed far and wide and impregnate as many women as possible to promulgate his genetic legacy. Although he might prefer to pump-n-dump the best quality partners(young, virginal, prettiest), men will settle for any fertile incubator to carry out his reproductive directive. He won’t have to experience the downtime for child rearing/pregnancy as they’re not likely to stay to play protector/provider once his progeny survives birth. Oxytocin might convince him to stick around and keep the same partner, but won’t necessarily inhibit him from still seeking out more partners to impregnate.

Obviously we are not savages for the most part and do not operate exactly like this ; this is just what I imagine our lizard brain tries to push us to do.

I think women put more effort in their appearance. Hair, skincare, makeup and clothes. Of course not all, but I don’t think I need to say that.

No, women are not pickier than they were like hundred years ago. Women have more rights today and can be more independent.

Today it’s more accepted when men wear makeup (I mean compared to like ten years ago). Maybe more men will be lucky, if they can wear makeup. If women would care about their appearance just like men, I’m pretty sure men would be picky too.

And I also feel like it has not necessarily to do with the looks, more like how a man behaves. Many men until this day, won’t put much effort in the relationship. Expects from a woman things that he himself don’t do (like chores, cooking, being supportive). And sometimes some women just don’t wanna be in a relationship, doesn’t matter how attractive you are.

Women of childbearing age have intrinsic social value due to their looks; men don’t. Men need to earn their stripes. We’re useless until proven otherwise. Attractive or not, we must actively compete to survive.

A lot of this is because, despite what the toxic blackpill virgins of this sub will tell you while they project their own insecurities, the actual science shows that men are much more visual than women when it comes to attraction. If a girl is above average in attractiveness, men can tell that right away from literally 2 seconds of glancing at her. From that point on her perceived attractiveness is more or less already determined.

Not so with the other way around. Trust me, the defeatist “woe is me” men truly don’t know what they’re talking about because they don’t leave the house enough to understand human interaction. I know tons of visually attractive 6 ft+ men who get little to no pussy, and the biggest player I know is short and a bit funny looking. The difference? He’s extremely charismatic, he’s forward, and he’s smooth about it. He has tons of confidence, although I truly don’t know where it comes from lol. I guess some people are just naturally confident, lucky them. But biggest of all? He moves quickly. Inevitably, he’s been accused of being creepy a few times, but he brushes it off like it’s nothing cause he really just doesn’t care. Most of the time, girls go along with his advances and have no complaints about anything he does.

Now what do all the 6 ft+ men I know who don’t get laid often have in common? They’re awkward. They’re quiet, reserved, and just generally tend to not rock the boat too much. They keep to themselves, and when they do talk they don’t flirt and they aren’t forward with women at all. Most of them do alright, they’re not incels or anything like that, but their relative good looks often end up going to waste because they don’t utilize them properly. Their height and good looks are like a gun that just sits in the shed collecting dust, while my shorter friend just sticks to fist-fighting and usually wins because of all the practice he has.

So yeah. I probably drifted off from the major point here, but men simply just have to compete actively to get what they want from dating. You don’t get to just sit on the sidelines looking pretty— not in the real physical world at least. Competition in dating for women is like a beauty pageant; for men it’s more of a race. Most men just simply aren’t willing to run fast, they just sit around wishing they were in women’s position.

That’s why there aren’t a lot men who are perceived as being super attractive; we literally just aren’t as pretty looking. That’s why a pretty woman’s face on a product makes it sell better to both men and women. If a man wastes too much of his time trying to be pretty, he’s barking up the wrong tree. You’ll literally attract more gay men than women that way, lol.

It's because women are the desirable sex.Men are not really sexually attractive to women,but they can be financially attractive to women or they can be seen as a good protector,and this will attract women.Women need men,and men want women.That's how were biological programmed.Everything men like about women is exclusive to the female sex.Like the female body, and femininity.The things that men provide that women like are not exclusive to the male sex.Protection and provision is something women can get from other sources.
