This video below is made by a trad on anti-feminist woman, so I don't really agree with her, and many here won't. However, she raises some interesting points, and in the first 30 seconds that thing about "actually patriarchy gave me" is an argument im surprised anti feminsits haven't used before.... if you believe in patriarchy conspiracy theory then well it also means you believe in what she says too (it was in fact patriarchy that gave women the most freedoms, and advancements in life e.g. in 1900s global life expectancy was 30)

Yes women were confined to some gender roles. Thank God technology (life expectancy up, maternal and infant mortality down, public toilets, pads/tampons/ the Pill/ childbirth and pregnancy complications e.g. tears, fistulas, incontience rarer, breast feeding for 4 years no longer needed as bette food supply) and social change changed that. As were men... and men who did not submit to their gender roles were executed by the state... in 1920 men who did not conscript i.e their forced gender role were hanged. Men who didn't provide for their families were jailed. MK a British teacher was jailed as he didn't pay his wife income tax, his bride a doctor being much richer than him... his argument was that and also that his wife was denying him the papers to even pay... still arrested, some press attention eventually got him released and he died shortly after.... and in 2020 well yes men are still jailed for their gender roles. Switzerland has arrested 15,000 men for not conscripting. All men who do not conscript even for MEDICAL reasons pay 3% tax for 10 years.

So yes while women were in gender roles as were men... with the exception of yes women were barred from somethings but were never executed by state to go into gender role... men were... and are in 2020

Also just a correction. Women were allowed to have jobs and also the law meant that all money women earned was their own whereas all money men earned was for family and had to ensure women and children were looked after...
