Because it is hard to say no when you are face to face. It's easier to give you the number, then ghost when you are not face to face.

Plus, as others have noted, it's about finding the best mate. She took 4 numbers that night, and a dozen this week. Only the Chaddiest of them got a date.

Look at any decently attractive girls text message inbox and you'll find at least 8-10 dudes all saying the same exact thing.

Only 1-2 of those dudes are gonna achieve some sort of response that yields physical results

The other 8 poor bastards she'll either flirt with but never act or just flat out ignore.

Something I do to eliminate this sort of things is to make a chick seriously invest before getting any contact info from her. Pull her into a long conversation, then make her work for your attention.

One thing that seems to drive women nuts (at least with me) is having an involved conversation but not really looking at her much while you do it. For example, talking in a night club setting and watching all the other chicks dancing while you hold down the conversation.

People are loss averse.

If they put little into getting something, they care little about losing it. If they put a lot into getting something, then they fight tooth and nail for it, even if it's not really to their advantage to do so.

You have to make yourself something she fought hard to get.

Happens all the time. This is why before getting the number you have to qualify them and get some agreement on meeting up.

"Let's meet up for drinks...how's Saturday?" if you detect any sort of waffle, simply say "ok, cool."

I just did that the other day. I ran into a girl I number closed 4 months ago. We danced and I suggested drinks. No, she wanted to stay where she was... "ok".

No need to text after that.

She doesn't reply or materialize plans because when you asked for the number you didn't ask the number to follow up a plan/excitement/adventure that you were exciting her to imagine. There was no excitement and future plans made at the time you got the number.

The point of getting number is to followup with the plans you have made with her not to creep her later.

Comes down to 3 things on my experience.

hard to say no in person. They didn't want ya.
casting a net, you weren't the best pick. "Or even second best that night". This is normal healthy human behavior.
should've escalated immediately, all the way to fucking at first meet, but since you delayed, you're off the table. Attraction lost.

A lot of girls give out numbers just out of being "nice." Has happened to me plenty. Just keep fishing man, you'll start catching them.
