Mind you this is approximately the time frame of when mass media and FDA started advocating low-fat diets.

Sugar is indeed the real culprit. Yields no satiety either. Fat would be a better choice for a number of reasons, one of which is you'll actually feel full.

There's some good stuff in that thread by the way

Isn't it funny that sugar is at the tip of the pyramid, saying it should only be consumed "sparingly," but carbs are the base of the pyramid. Carbs are converted into glucose by the body, aka sugar. They essentially are sugar as soon as they hit the blood stream.

Yep, sugar makes you fat! but the media fights this idea because then they couldn't push low fat options anymore.

I support the rise in obesity. I am losing the fail race. YAYY

NIMBY - Not in my back yard (George Carlin).

Wonder if this trend will eventually reverse, either from a realization, or just having the heavy people die out faster...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I think the heavy people will just keep breeding and as long as we pay for their health problems they'll just cling to life on a cocktail of pharmaceuticals and insulin until their offspring are old enough to complete the cycle.

Exactly, we are rewarding their bad behaviour, it's essentially the same as children.

This, combined with being told that "big is beautiful" and all that nonsense means that people have no incentive to not eat themselves to an early grave.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
