Hypergamy and menopause (self.askMRP)

submitted by Whatev22

There is very little discussion that I’ve been able to find regarding aging women. Anyone have saved links or input? How does the landscape change over time?

Thanks for not being lazy.

Good reads. Though I took some courses touching on evolutionary biology in uni (not my field but interested), from what I understand the prevailing theory to explain menopause is the "grandmother effect".

Rollo seems to believe that there is a brutal evolutionary process that makes older women redundant unless they have status, and that menopause somehow is evolution's way of killing them off. If this was true then menopause would be fatal, which it obviously isn't. Most mammals, nearly all mammals, don't have menopause and the female can reproduce into old age.

For women, the prevailing theory is menopause emerged to preserve social knowledge which is critical for the survival of the tribe (and older people simply have more of it). Preserving the knowledge of older grandmothers, great-grandmothers (of which there might be a few who get to 50) outweighs the evolutionary advantage of these women having more babies (which has higher fatality rate as a trade-off for tighter hips needed to be bipedal, and being free of educating young children allows energy to be spent on older children needing advice on raising their children, and the tribe as a whole). There's no menopause for men because whatever additional time is needed for a new baby (which can be essentially nothing in some society's) doesn't outweigh evolutionary gain of reproducing more. Not sure if this is "proven" but seemed to be the received wisdom.

This of course has no practical value vis-a-vis the OP, but I'm surprised Rollo doesn't mention this theory as he seems very into evolutionary-biology. I'm not sure it changes the points he's trying to make about society today though.

His criticism of "Loose Women" is of course spot on and hilarious.

nah... it's just that humans without the benefit of technology and medicine would almost always be dead before reaching menopause

But that's precisely the issue. How then does it evolve, only three mammal species have menopause. Helping grandchildren, great-grandchildren, genes get diluted. In the mathematics of simple gene transmission, there's a big advantage for having more that one more direct offspring. A theory needs to show why menopause helps humans, killer and pilot whales but not every other mammal species. What's unique to the human and whales with menopause is complex language and experience.

Since there's no proof that resolves the issue, I don't see why RP thinking needs to side either way. Don't see what RP critique of society today requires resolving the menopause origin problem.

Damn you guys here are all baby crazy.

Has it ever occurred that there comes a time that you don't want to have more kids? You've raised the kids and now you spend your time and energy on yourself and your kids can fend for themselves as they raise the grandkids.

Menopause means no mo prego, and that's great by me.

The down side, it is used as an excuse to limit, or control, or retire from being a sexual woman. u/screechhater is a great example of how to win.

If you aren't obsessed with making it with 26 year olds, then it is really about frame with an older woman. Not buying any of the bullshit, 100% frame. Everything you need to know about menopausal women is in the sidebar. They just play the game harder than the younger women.

They just play the game harder than the younger women.

you got that right!

You guy don't have a fucking clue about older, mature women. They are, by far, the best best partners out there. Confident, sexy, stable, wise, smart ... the list goes on and on. The best relationship you'll ever have will be with an older woman.

All this talk about their sex drive diminishing is pure BS. Older women love sex. Can't get enough of it. And they are fantastic lovers.

Menopause?

Replace her immediately.

Never let 'em reach age 50. We must keep the world order and continue our dominance.

As Elmer Fudd would say, "kill the wabbits, kill the wabbits."

It is true. For an rawdogging oldster like me, it puts a finger on the scale for the stay plan.

[–]johneyapocalypse7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Where's that finger been?

In what sense? Menopause has some chemical, hormonal and physical changes for a woman but it doesn't change the nature of women. It becomes another factor to take into account but essentially changes nothing. In some ways it makes women internalize that they have hit the wall.

yawn

same shit as always

work out more, be attractive same shit just do you and quit trying to over think everything

Hormones, hormones and it's in the sidebar to get them to the doc. Mine went on her own for HRT and I told her to grow out the butch bullshit hair

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
