That's her hamster working overtime to protect her fragile ego. He turned her down, and she was probably being all clandestine and duplicitous about her intentions to start er flirt conversation with him, and he flat out voices her true intentions and rejects her. Women don't handle rejection well.

So she wanted to at least emotionally cheat with him, which easily could have escalated, but now he's an embarrassment for her.

There really isn't much you can do but to take a good long look in the mirror, and ask yourself what she sees. Being super AF won't make your wife immune to be attracted to other men, because hypergamy doesn't ever stop working, but I'd bet you, that you could be better than you are.
