Guys who workout? (self.asktrp)

submitted by icykid298

Have you guys ever experienced resentment from people who dont work out? Like some people have looked at me with disgust because I do workout.

envy is the biggest compliment

[–]thrwy754799 points10 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

It is, but it's extremely uncomfortable when they're eyeing you down. I'm not talking about girls, or gay guys.

[–]Project_Zero_Betas30 points31 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

It is, but it's extremely uncomfortable when they're eyeing you down.

Never be the first to look away. After a while, it becomes nothing but a game to you :-)

[–]E9er0 points1 point  (4 children) | Copy Link

can you explain more please? i am at this level and i’m in this situation... can you elaborate on the part of “becomes nothing but a game” i wanna take it to that level! as quick as possible. i already have a list of eyers, eyeing me.

[–]Project_Zero_Betas7 points8 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

They're trying to intimidate/threaten you. But the whole point of such body languages cues is to convey what they WANT you to think. Why would someone doing such a thing give their victim a heads up? Makes no logical sense until you realize they do it because they're too beta to actually do anything to you. So essentially comes down to a game of "Who's bluffing?" And the correct answer is whoever breaks eye contact first. Beta mooks need to rely on implicit threats because they aren't alpha enough to follow through.

[–]E9er1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

dawg you blowing my mind... you made a nuclear b.om.b seem like a box of kittens. i mean holy shit that shit feels like a fucking mental game.. i get it! good shit bro! the fight is not within me but against them... flip the script dope!!!

[–]Project_Zero_Betas1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

dawg you blowing my mind... you made a nuclear b.om.b seem like a box of kittens.

It's what I do. I can weaponize anything ;-)

i mean holy shit that shit feels like a fucking mental game..

That's because it is.

i get it! good shit bro! the fight is not within me but against them... flip the script dope!!!

Pretty much. Once you figure out WHY beta mooks want you to think a certain way, besting them is child's play.

[–]E9er0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

thanks buddy! i need this refresher. sometimes in battle we lose focus and let the haters brake frame

[–]Ohboohoolittlegirl0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

It is, but not all remarks are envy by default. I have a BB friend(I work out myself too btw) who posts between 3-5 pictures of himself on all his social media. Its getting a little sad to be honest. I'm not small myself at all and I'm definitely not envious, but his big but fragile ego has become a bit of a joke among our friends. I have respect for the amount of work he puts in, the risk he takes by using insulin, but he's just a fool in the end.

[–]Flamethrowa2133 points34 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

"Wow man you've really filled out!" Proceeds to mock

[–]TehJoshW9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Gotta love the one-uppers as well

"Damn man you've packed on some size, how much you bench?"

"About 230 at the moment"

"Haha yeah I peaked at 250 when I went to the gym years ago"

It's always "Yeah I USED to lift such and such"

Like, dude, I dont care what you USED to lift. Unless you got an injury and are slowly working your way back up, your numbers from "years ago" don't mean shit to me

[–]KarlskyWB38 points39 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

Make it your number one goal to piss these people off. Use their envy as the fuel for your workouts.

When you piss off losers, then you know that what you're doing is working.

[–]Project_Zero_Betas7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

When you piss off losers, then you know that what you're doing is working.

TIL!

[–]garebear199596 points7 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Low key got into shape partly so I can return the favor of those who called me fat.

Told a girl “wow didn’t recognize ya,you gained so much weight”,she was visible distraught.her mortified face is etched into my memory.at that point I understood what a revenge boner was.she was a major bitch in high school so she had it coming.as for others who wronged me simply showing self improvement and a nod is enough.

[–]MysteriousNomad0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Lmao! What was her response??

[–]garebear199591 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

A half hearted “I didn’t gain that much”(probably gained 50-70lbs).then proceeds to try and make small talk about school and work,I cut her off nicely ,get my groceries and dip.in hindsight she was probably wanting to catch up and play nice but I hold grudges like a bitch and rather not go to Starbucks with some girl who hit the wall at 24.

[–]MisplacedSanityP29 points30 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Just like ugly women who insult pretty women. "Wow she must be a whore" "Does she really need all that make-up?" "She's like a stick, guys like thicc girls". Pure envy.

[–]hatethiscity27 points28 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Not so much resentment for working out, but I've experienced a lot of people shaming me for being disciplined with my diet at times. I've had coworkers try and make fun of me/ shame me for not getting ice cream or eating donuts or cookies that they brought in. Fuck em... let them get fat.

[–]Sylvester_Sterone7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Food pushers...

I had a professor I once worked with as a graduate assistant say, "You're so disciplined. It's diiiisssgusting."

[–]Aymane2215 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Same like alright bitch shove that 400 calorie of fat down your gut. I’ll watch in disgust

[–]Atheist_Utopia0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I can so relate to this. I'm still small as fuck (178cm, 65KG) and already get flak for being disciplined with my diet.

[–]Zanford17 points18 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Crab bucket mentality.

The best burn on his front was by Ahnuld. Some guys tells him "I wouldn't want to look like that" and Arnold replies "Don't worry, you never will."

[–]TheDero14 points15 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

They're just unhappy. My beer gutted, undisciplined , manchild of a father consistently made negative comments towards me when I was gaining mass for a few months.

[–]patacsiipse12 points13 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

My beta cuck father called me straight gay when I first started to lift, he said only gay dudes care about how they look...

[–]TheDero7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I had the gay comments thrown out to me as well. My mother liked to chime in on those as well. I had no role models besides my best friends and people online growing up. Took me a long time to really shape myself into somewhat of a resemblance of a man. Change took a while for me, and when I was getting my shit together and training I avoided dating because I didnt feel up to par. That someone translated in their eyes to being fucking gay?

Who knows.

[–]Distractingyou1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol that's stupid as fuck in any case gays use shit like makeup or other girly things most dont lift

[–]patacsiipse9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Dudes constantly get insecure when I’m around them. They question my strength, become self declared nutritional experts, shame my discipline, make fun of me for not consuming alcohol and get extremely hostile when they see their girls checking my gains out.

On the other hand, it always gives energy when I happen to meet with other disciplined lifters, they tend to be very stoic and cool people.

[–]Red_Pill_Brotherhood8 points9 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

No, if anything I've gotten some compliments and people that respect the dedication. And don't worry about those people, they secretly feel worse about themselves because they don't have what you have and they don't have the work ethic to do it.

[–]obiwanshighground6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes and if I ever went out to eat with them I sometimes got judged on my food choices. I also go the “hey big guy” and all the gym bro jokes for a while. For me it happened more when I first got serious about lifting, but after a while when my results spoke for themselves people actually started coming to me for advice. Just ignore it

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

My mother swoleshamed me with feminist bullshit like "your muscle size doesn't matter when making money your brain size does" or "women don't care about muscles" funniest and dumbest shit she's said is " a man without a belly is like a Mercedes without a logo" now I'm making triple the average person does and I have sex on call.

[–]HurricaneHugues9 points10 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Plate her

[–]AnotherAffan_Khan2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

😂

[–]TheStumblingWolf6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

When I started lifting people (I have a circle of superficial friends that I play board/video games with) were like "you're just doing it to get laid". I just laughed and said "so what if I am?".

[–]Aymane2214 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

All the time

[–]Rnee458 points9 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Ignore them.

[–]Sylvester_Sterone4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure. Keep going. I've seen dudes mate guard their ladies by hold on for dear God. I've also seen people give plenty of respect and ask for advice and polite conversation. Finally, there are also the ones that try to compete with you too.

It's funny how when you start out people seem to give all sorts of unsolicited advice. It'll stop though.

[–]Aymane2214 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s gottten to the point where dudes have made comments to me at a bar saying they want to fight me cuz I’m lean and ripped. Of course while there girlfriends eye me up and down and grab me

[–]Endorsed ContributorFereallyRed5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Tallcrab poppybuckets.

[–]Platinum2473652 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't recall people who have looked at me with disgust, but I have had people encourage me to take a break from training or eat something unhealthy once in a while.

[–]kayfab2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I will be 47 this year and all the time, people are jealous, because even the younger one can't keep up with me, fuck them, train your ass off

[–]8647_691 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Dhdjmsmsmz.z.,m£÷`=£=✓

[–]OfficerWade1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s just not kind but yeah I experience myself hating on people who watch tv all day drinking beer, who have no friends, same shit As yesterday

[–]RRBeachFG21 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I've noticed that everyone wants to talk about their future plans to get into shape, or their sudden need to get in the gym. It is pretty annoying.

[–]HurricaneHugues1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Right? They feel as if you're judging them (which let's be honest here, you lowkey are, but whatever), and feel like they have to tell you that theyre gonna get in shape sometime in the near future.

[–]Mescalean1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. Get use to it man. People who can’t compete at the game often times try to change to rules of the game. See current social/identity politics got example.

Fat or scrawny dudes will shame you. Patriarchal shitlord/s

[–]garebear199591 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Went from 320lbs to 190lbs.some of the younger members of my family were jealous AF since they were and still are obese.but mostly they were all supportive.they ask for tips and when I tell them “diet is everything” they retort with “thats too much work”,then I say “try intermittent fasting”, 340lbs cousin says “I don’t want to starve myself”.

Other than that sometimes there is somebody that tries to compete with me,I’m 6ft 1 and I have a bad temper so I inadvertently intimidate the rare male shit test.

[–]14Einsatzgruppen881 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

all the fucking time, and i know its because of that. usually short fatties get passive aggressive

[–]Rimefang1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I got buff so people WOULDN'T give me shit. I was a quiet fat kid growing up, and was bullied/ridiculed alot because I always felt helpless. Didn't help that my dad did it at home too emotionally.

Nowadays, if anyone wants to give me shit, usually just a staredown will make them back the fuck off. Never again.

[–]1XXXMersenne0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Deathstare

Not like some stick insect soyboy's gonna confront you about it.

[–]send_it_for_the_boys0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I get the “only dicks and douche bags go to the gym” shit like that all the time. “Yeah, girls only put dicks and douche bags in their vaginas” or fuck them up with logic, you’re such a nice guy yet you’re calling me a douche bag for bettering myself because you’re too lazy to do so? See who the real douche bag is in this scenario. I get shit about how much I eat all the time as well, “you know when you’re older you’re just gonna get fat right with all the food you eat” “you’d be a lot happier if you ate some candy or something”

[–]Anasthaesium0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, they stereotype me as a dumb jock.
When the chicks get to know me - they think am just a jock and ho. They never get past it to get to the nerd businessman inside

[–]SpinPlates0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely. Nothing is worse than diet shaming. Try to bring some meal preps into an office and watch people lose their mind.

My nickname was "catfood" for a while because my fat fuck coworker saw me eating albacore tuna right out of the can and was like "oh emm geee is that CATFOOD!?"

Also i love the "Come on man, ONE DONUT isn't going to hurt you. You workout"

[–]HurricaneHugues0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

At one of my old jobs, some fat bitch brought baked goods to sell in the breakroom. They were a dollar each. Everyone was plunging headfirst into those baked goods. When she realized that I wasn't gonna buy, she asked me loudly to put me on the spot or something, and I shut that shit down with a "No thank you Meagan, I'm good". The look of shock in her face as she said my name with indignation lol.

  1. I don't know what u put in those thigs or if u prepared them with your feet in a toilet. I don't trust you.

  2. Im not eating sweets to make u happy.

[–]Dane500 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I get this at work. My response is “no thanks I like seeing my abs”. Shuts everyone up fast.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep, I get far more shame from the diet than the gym or being fit because usually when exercising you’re around others exercising. If you’re dieting you’re around others eating like shit

[–]jenovajunkie0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Jealousy comes from everywhere. It's like "survivors guilt" bro, people hate you because you adhered to no one and you fought through.

You didn't just give up and become a fatty.

[–]stiffmiester7860 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing new they're just bitter that they can't make good life style choices and that your are improving in life. I've been accused of taking steroids since I've been 12yo , I've never used any supplements apart from abit of creatine, always ate clean and worked out. Its more like they're looking at themselves in disgust as why there will power is so low that they can't do these things

[–]celincelin0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

No idea what kind of autistic kindergarten do you live in. I’m not even big, just lean with some definition, and I only get positive comments.

[–]The-Wizard-of-Oz-0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Who gives a damn?

[–]BusterVadge0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

It's the HAES (Health at any size*) movement.

*Except extremely fit. That size is NOT healthy to the HAES people.

[–]ChadTheWaiter1000 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course. What do you care if someone doesn’t agree with it? I’m younger than everyone that I work with by 25 years and I’m 28. They’re all fat fucks who drink daily. They think I’m cut bc “I have a fast metabolism”

[–]Aymane2210 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I’ll be waking into a bar and I can tell people look at me and want to say something and I’ll just kinda make eye contact and you can tell what they were about to say they just swallow those words right back down there throat. It’s a look they have of “god im a piece of shit guzzling down these shots and beers” and fuck this guy puts in work”. I’ll be friendly and talk to people and I can tell they want to be a dick then they look at my arms and chest etc and they just have nothing but respect.

Then you get the occasional aggressive betas

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
