I realize no one gives a shit about me, and that I'm disposable. I also have known instinctively for many years (and experienced) how a woman will destroy a man.

In this sense, I don't really see much to look forward to.

I know the default answer is to: find your purpose.

But there is nothing I enjoy doing. I wish there was, and I could go all out.

I think this is congenital for me, I remember having these same thoughts in kindergarten, and every fucking time I brought this up it was always: it will get better when X.

Well now I'm 30, I've done college, I have had jobs, girlfriends, made money, lost money, even served in the military, and I just have always had this feeling that none of this fucking matters.

The struggle doesn't seem worth the pay off.

[–]sehns 74 points75 points  (7 children) | Copy Link

Now multiply that feeling by 3x and thats most guys stuck in dead end marriages.

You aren't maintaining a healthy perspective. You're 30, you presumably have your health, your hair, your looks, and you can go anywhere in the world.

How about taking advantage of the fact you can do whatever the fuck you want?

Heres some fun ideas to try:

  • Pick a place each year to travel solo to for a few weeks. You have all year to think about choosing a place and then you get to look forward to something.

  • Go stay in an all inclusive hooker resort in Costa Rica with all you can bang chicks! Go on a boat and catch a giant Tuna and do lines of blow with the captain

  • Go down to Rio De Janeiro and party on the beach and bang spicy Brazilian babes

  • Spend 2 weeks on a motorbike around Vietnam

  • Hike the Italian dolomites and go do cooking classes or study italian food/wine

  • Take one of those contiki type travel tours with a bunch of college girls anywhere and try not to drown in pussy

  • Go to those cool rooftop summer parties in EU and do ecstacy with a bunch of beautiful people who can hardly speak english

  • Go learn scuba diving in Thailand and chill with a beach dog watching fire twirling on the beach

  • Reframe your perspective and find happiness with what you HAVE got

  • Use discipline to try a new hobby every month till you find something you like

  • Get checked for depression

im broke atm and when i wasn't I was working, and use my vacation as the only time I'd see family

[–]Thinkingard 13 points14 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Reduce expenses as low as possible and then go monk mode grinding for decent work and save save save.

[–]sehns 4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

You probably have depression, and your life circumstances might be why. Our default states as humans isn't "happy and content" - it takes a bit of work, and mental management.

[–]Foolishoe 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Checking prices to visit Costa Rica right now...

[–]five_eight 35 points36 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

About a year ago I got a couple cartons of eggs from a dumpster. Went to the range and put them out at ranges between 7 and 60 yards and then shot them with my .22. It was the happiest day of my life.

[–]sehns 13 points14 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I love this. It's a great analogy - the world isn't going to just serve up happy, memorable moments. We gotta make that shit ourselves.

[–]five_eight 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you! Agree. Couple times over the summer I got to play with some youngsters at a couple swimmin' holes while parents or guardians hung out sunning. I loved it! Get the kids all whipped up, then hop back on my bicycle and scram!

I'd say RP is the wrong place to seek advice for this

But I will say that I've been through the same motions. The way I got over it and still do to this date is that if nothing matters and I'm gonna die anyway, if literally everything I thought I cared about is beyond my control, then by fucking god am I going to go out with a blast. Every day is a chance to be great. And when you forget that, remind yourself that you're a man. Your body and your mind are capable of unimaginable wonders and it's a serious dis-service to yourself if you have no desire to witness those wonders before your time has come.

Check out "The daily stoic". Take a day off from pushing yourself. Do something that gives you pleasure and doesn't depend on external variables. That should give you the energy to actualize yourself starting the day after.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 4 points5 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

that is good advice, it's something I've thought of a bit as well, it's definitely liberating (nothing matters = just do what you enjoy), and good that someone else found it worked for them. But again, I don't really enjoy anything.

I even thought women would solve this, the last girl I met at a club, I brought her back to my place, and I couldn't even bring myself to fuck her. Sounds embarrassing, but I don't even really care. That was 3 months ago, and I don't really see the purpose of picking up girls anymore either if I'm not going to fuck them.

I've also read about stoicism, I know it doesn't advocate this, but sometimes it encourages the lack of "trying" I alluded to in my original post.

[–]ItSmellsLikeRain2day 11 points12 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Anhedonia is a serious and reliable indicator of depression. Nothing I or anyone else on any forum could ever say or do will fix that for you in a blog post. Perspective is King. Check yours. Get help from your friend's/family/therapist. Build yourself a support system. I, personally have a list of anchors and reminders that I like to revisit when I'm in a psychological crisis to help me reset my frame to a more fruitful, productive one. The idea is to take the bad just as well as you'd take the good on any other day. Some days life just sucks and that's only a problem if you're ill equipped to carry on not just despite but BECAUSE of the hardship, chaos and generally being lost.

Realise that you are lost because you are free. And freedom means you have a choice. A choice that is yours to make. Find it. Make it.

Realise that this isn't the first time in your life you've felt this way and you've managed to work your way out every single time until now. This too shall pass.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I appreciate it, it sounds like you have battled this as well.

Realise that you are lost because you are free. And freedom means you have a choice. A choice that is yours to make. Find it. Make it.

Realise that this isn't the first time in your life you've felt this way and you've managed to work your way out every single time until now. This too shall pass.

This is definitely motivating.

[–]nateydanger 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Please understand that RP is a way of life but it is not a cure-all. Depression, Anxiety and Hopelessness are legit medical issues and maybe you just need to see a professional.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I have had it checked, it was normal

[–]Reprimanded_Duck 26 points27 points  (7 children) | Copy Link

What you wrote is a perfect explanation of the existential crisis in our society. We as humans have become so self aware of our inevitable death that we have lost all purpose. There are relatively very few things worth fighting for. And as much as we’d all enjoy nothing more than to give our lives for our friends or a mission, and go on adventures, real life just doesn’t present those opportunities as they stand.

I am currently incredibly depressed. I sleep 14 hours a day because my dreams are amazing and beautiful. Real life is filled with guilt, hurt, and failures. And while I’m generally successful (Junior Electrical Engineering student, enroute to Marine OCS), there is nothing that excites me anymore. I wake up from a beautiful dream and I’m a blank face.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

When I joined the military (I was a Marine) I expected it to meet a lot of those archaic needs you described, it does satisfy a lot of needs, and I think the Marines have a great culture, but do be prepared to find yourself wanting more still, and don't expect it to last once you're out. Sebastian Junger talks about this.

[–]CarbonCommandant 3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Listening to Sebastian Junger talk on youtube right now. Thank you for the recommendation!

[–]GonadGravy 8 points9 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

They fill that gap when you’re on them...eventually they don’t work as well...then you need them to feel normal. Eventually you lose and life is worse than before you took them. Not all drugs, but most.

[–]agjrpsl 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

A lot of recent reports say that doing psychedelic drugs have helped people with depression, ptsd etc etc. I don't have a link but they are out there.

Epic levels of boredom and sadness are such a luxury. Doesn't FEEL like a luxury but there are parts of the world where helicopters mean run and hide. People want to kill you while you just want to not starve. There are so many ways to live and we are lucky enough to have a choice when millions are slaves. Beaten, raped, starved.

Such a crazy time and place to be sad right? But no matter what life we live we wage war against the things that aren't right. No matter how far we come, every life will be a war, because that is the nature of life. Always.

[–]RivenHalf 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Basically this

[–]fashfront 25 points26 points  (12 children) | Copy Link

Yeah this is how I’m gonna end up. I have nothing I really like doing, I get bored or frustrated with anything after at most a week. My main goal after I finish college will probably just be to stockpile as much money as I can. I can sense I’m going to hate it though, and a lot of my friends are already on track to make more than me.

Keep your head up. Get more sleep. Find people who keep your life interesting.

In the military, did you feel like your life had a purpose while you were there?

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 9 points10 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

My main goal after I finish college will probably just be to stockpile as much money as I can.

I did this for 5 years, I was making over $100K a year, and tried to start a business because work was soul crushing, but ended up losing most the money trying to get it running. Not because I would enjoy it, but at least I wouldn't be working for someone else. If you succeed in building your own income, that would be a consolation prize I guess.

Keep your head up. Get more sleep. Find people who keep your life interesting.

Thanks, definitely sleep is important, I do about 1.5 hours of fitness 6 days a week (lift, martial arts or run) so it encourages me to take care of my body (sleep, diet, etc.)

In the military, did you feel like your life had a purpose while you were there?

Somewhat, I felt a purpose in a sense that I knew whatever I was doing at the time was part of something bigger than myself, and I enjoyed the people I served with. But I simultaneously thought a lot of time was wasted, and I was eager to get out and live up to my full potential, which is something I have not achieved, hopefully.

[–]PandaLitter 2 points3 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

What kind of business did you try to start?

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

several mostly FBA simple type stuff, but also a few apps, trying to get a relatively passive income going, my problem was because I don't have a passion, I tried to just follow trends. In retrospect a bad idea, but I didn't want to not try anything.

At least I did learn and teach myself a lot of things, and I think I can do it eventually with a new approach.

[–]Razzoz6 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I dont know you but you should totally try it again. Dont give up after a couple of setbacks. Most of my personal best moments happend after I failed multiple times and still tried afterwards.

[–]thesquarerootof1 2 points3 points  (7 children) | Copy Link

and a lot of my friends are already on track to make more than me.

What are you majoring in college ? Unpopular opinion, but college is only worth going if you're studying engineering, computer science, accountant/banker, or want to be a doctor/lawyer or something.

[–]fashfront 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Accounting lol. Lots of friends are going the investment banking track, which I thought was too competitive to get a job in. Now that they’re all getting jobs paying 100k+ their first year out of college, I feel like an idiot for taking the “safer route” with accounting

[–]Kkiy0M 0 points1 point  (5 children) | Copy Link

What about IT?

[–]thesquarerootof1 2 points3 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

It’s oversaturated and computer engineers and CompSci majors will get paid more. We call it the CompSci dropout major, lol

[–]Kkiy0M 1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Oh, thanks. I always appreciate the advice I find on this sub. My friend told he he’s completing an IT course then will transfer to last year of college for cyber security. Not sure if that falls more into CompSci or IT. I asked him if I did the course whether I could transfer to coding or software engineering and he said yeah. What would you suggest?

[–]thesquarerootof1 2 points3 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I’m a computer engineering major and I love it , but get a CompSci major or a computer engineering major. They both end up getting paid the same. Engineering takes longer though, by a year. There are too many damn prerequisite classes unfortunately...

[–]Kkiy0M 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Oh ok, thanks. Is “software engineering” too broad a term? If so, what specific jobs do you have in mind when you say they pay more? Thanks again my friend!

[–]thesquarerootof1 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s not too broad of a term . Software engineering means you need a CompSci degree mostly

[–]ThrowayButNvrForgten 17 points18 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Wtf? Are you writing stuff about me? This is literally my creds. Done all the TRP too.

[–]apskidb 6 points7 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

Find your mission is too high-level an objective and many people struggle to translate that into something tangible.

I would urge you to go on a journey of discovery and self-awareness. Get to know yourself. Read some therapy related books. It will give you a better understanding of our developmental needs and what drives us.

Hopefully things you’ve read will spark some things like ‘damn i remember i used to love xyz’ and you should give yourself the permission and freedom to delve into that a bit.

The trouble is that life is so busy and hectic, many of us don’t have time to satisfy basic needs. But as a has been said “an unexamined life is not worth living.”

The RP journey is one of casting away societal programming and delusions to live YOUR life. You’ve done well on the external factors of disciple and women but you still have a ways to go.

Happy to share more if helps.

Thanks, part of me just wants to get a dead end job in the countryside. I'd be a loser by most standards, but I'd be stress free. Although part of me feels like this is "giving up"

Definitely interested in learning more

[–]apskidb 3 points4 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I would ask you about your idea of someone doing as you said to be a loser? According to what value system? That’s a very plugged in mindset. Have the confidence to define your own success. A lot of people chase the city bachelor pad and busy lifestyle and realise that they just want to be left alone in peace. That doesn’t make them losers.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

That's pretty much the exact experience I went through. It's only worthwhile if you are a millionaire or working for yourself. Having to work a stressful job for a boss you hate just to get by in the city is not worth it.

I think by RP's value system: living in a cheap place working for the town or something is not successful. And no I wouldn't really care what other people think, but in most measurable aspects my life would be worse off.

But again, it could be therapeutic for a year or so.

[–]apskidb 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

You’re on the right path man. Face the fear and make the right decisions for yourself. May take time but you got this. That’s your purpose.

[–]Foolishoe 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean you could live in a van and follow the festival circuit and sell cheap things that people need like sunglasses hats shirts flip flops boots first aid kits and scarves. Wallets and cheap ass raincoats etc etc.

You could work in carpentry and build homes for a living, you could find a contract that starts from scratch and builds homes to finish.

Shit that business you started? You could have simply purchased homes and rented them out to people, literally people pay you to live on your space and pay you to do it.

Probably the best money on the planet is renting to someone. Live in your car and rent the house you purchased 3 years ago. Probably just a few 100 a month but how much do you really need?

Lean on homeless shelters, trucker gas station showers, food banks. Tons of drug addicts do it, you deserve those services as much as all the animals that are currently getting it.

You could even participate in community help events with your free time. Get to know your local community as a helpful agent of society.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Ya renting is easy, but at the time I was hoping to develop a multi million dollar business as opposed to just meeting my living expenses, and then living like a peasant, but ya im open to it now, problem is my credit sucks

[–]Endorsed ContributorMetalgear222 6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Try new things. Your mind will fight change with all its might. There’s a ton you still haven’t done. Everything you’ve listed was career focused. Where are your hobbies? Your creativity? Your male comradery? Your experimentation with psychedelics? Your travel experience? Your 2nd attempt at building and sustaining a business?

You have a finite amount of time here. And depressed or not, this life is a beautiful gift. To think otherwise is the ultimate form of lack of gratitude. If you’re not happy that’s because you didn’t put forth the effort, heart, and determination necessary to being happy.

You’ve had a purpose all along, you’re just not listening to it. It’s easy to become jaded in this technical racket, but the grass is still greener on the other side of trial and error, just like everything else. So try new shit always and often.

[–]rockyp32 3 points4 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

I know it sounds crazy but have you tried nofap/semen retention? It will change your life. Also remind yourself your gonna die one day

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

I did do nofap for 3 months. I find that nofap lite (like only once a week) is pretty effective, although admittedly right now I've gotten lazy and will do usually: Sun, Mon, Tue so at least I have a few days in between if I go out on Saturday.

[–]Foolishoe 1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Probably a good idea to quit. Keep telling yourself that your life is shit anyways and you don't do anything that doesn't really bring you long term pleasure, and just makes you weaker. That's essentially what beating off does. Makes you weaker, dumps your happy chemicals and makes you feel more like shit.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

true, there had been times in my life when Im so focused that I don't even have a desire to fap, that's what I'm trying to find.

[–]Foolishoe 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean is it really a desire at it's root or is it a nervous anxious compulsion you keep giving in to that feels good for a few moments during an uncomfortable process?

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure, but the desire increases the worse I feel about my life. So once things get better that will go away automatically, it has before

Man is born straight and free, but everywhere he is in fuzzy rainbow handcuffs. Heroes in ancient times boasted to friends of sacking and plundering cities; today they brag to strangers of buttock-burglary or cutting off balls to impersonate woman. Man has lost his natural virility and with it his purpose, beauty, and joy in life. Bronze Age Pervert has come to save you from a great faggotry.

Superficially, Bronze Age Mindset is a book of political philosophy or even of “ancient Greek history,” as Amazon classifies it. But BAM is a book of spirit! BAP is not concerned with the spirit in any abstract theological sense; as he puts it, you are your body and nothing else.

Various factors affect the spirit in the modern world. One of the most important is a feeling of confinement, which is extremely degrading to spirited men. As the author puts it, “No kind of distress is worse than the feeling you are trapped. This feeling of confinement is expressed in one of the most moving passages of the book:

I saw once a jaguar in a zoo, behind a glass, so that all the bugs in hueman form could gawk at it and humiliate it. This animal felt a noble and persistent sadness, being observed everywhere by the obsequious monkeys, not even monkeys, that were taunting it with stares. He could tell—I saw this! He could tell he was living in a simulated environment and that he had no power to move or live. His sadness crushed me and I will always remember this animal. I never want to see life in this condition!

Even a clearly illusory sense of being watched alters people’s behavior. Researchers at a university in the UK have displayed pictures of eyes above an “honesty box” and found that faculty become much more generous under such “observation,” while others have found that images of eyes on signs make bicycle theft less likely.

This feeling of being watched brings to mind modern social media and online surveillance, but BAP does not attribute our current state of confinement merely to modern technology or social trends. Instead he argues that throughout history, political and cultural authorities have resented the youthful vitality and beauty they themselves lack and sought to suppress them. He does not bother to rail against particular current-year atrocities such as “fat acceptance,” but clearly he would see these as expressions of the same old ugly trend. To rebel against this, he does not advocate a return to tradition, as most traditions have caused life to be “stunted and broken” (109). Instead he aims to inspire exceptional men who feel constrained by this “open-air zoo” to take spirited action to transform themselves and society in line with their highest potential (130).

Pornographers have often tried to oppress me. BAP has doubtless had the same experience, but does not put it in these terms. Instead he explains why the caged chimp masturbates. In his natural environment the animal would never do this, being occupied with “mastering space: solving problems of life in and under trees, mastering what tools he can, mastering social relations in the jockeying for power and status” (32). But in captivity, he senses “the futility of all his efforts and all his actions” (ibid.) and resorts to wasting his energy in masturbation. Of course, this is a commentary on current-year human sexuality:

The onanism of modern society is connected with its supposed “hyper-sexualization” and its infertility. It’s not really hyper-sexualization, but the devolution of the spirit to the lassitude of a diffuse and weak sexuality. Life in owned space becomes drained of energy through low-grade pointless titillation. (32)

Readers are probably already familiar with the most obvious consequences of “low-grade pointless titillation;” the most dramatic example of this is online pornography, and Gary Wilson’s Your Brain On Porn covers many of the negative effects of this. But BAP speaks of a spiritual degradation through which people forget both a more natural sexuality and “certain other instincts and desires…that the modern lords of lies [political and cultural elites] are terrified of” (87):

The sexual irritation that the many are kept under is different from the kind of unencumbered and carefree, passionate and demonic lust you found in premodern times, and that you still find in pockets of the Third World. This modern parody of lust drains all energy; that other true lust sets the heart on fire with many other wild enthusiasms […] Entire purpose of modern education is to suppress that enthusiasm […] And yes, they achieve this by promoting the tedious, exhausted sexual irritation you find among the obese, the “polyamorous,” the weirdo old tribesemen who get off on exposing themselves to women. This pervasive irritation blinds the many also to receptivity to these other desires I’m talking about. “Telepathy” is a public and mythical version of something real (87).

BAP explains that although the ruling elite do not want the people to be aware of this, once liberated from this degraded and draining form of sexuality, we have the potential for great feats of intuition. This includes an instinct which brings a “supremely” compatible couple together when “the genius of the species” intends for them to conceive a child, as well as bring friends together to accomplish other tasks (88). He also covers ancient Greek oracles, who could “know” the future through an instinct for the intentions of others. These oracles were women, and he argues that women’s minds are more naturally suited for all these types of intuition, being less cluttered with intellectual abstractions.

BAM advocates being led by the spirit rather than acting only on rational considerations. As he puts it:

What comes from the blood is best. But it’s hard to hear this call of instinct today, because you’re taught to distrust it. Abandoning yourself to instinct, once one has discipline and practice through the body, a man can pass over a chasm on a tightrope with a sure step… (119–120)

BAP speaks of a similar vigorous spirit in wild animals. He criticizes the implication of the theory of evolution that survival and reproduction are the true end of life, arguing that these practical needs are petty and confining in contrast with the spirit which truly drives life:

Group of horses in broad plain, and the lead stallion is captured by a wild spirit, starts to gallop this way and that and the whole herd follows in a great rush of power and freedom […] I’ve seen many things like this myself: was at big waterfall, gathering place of many birds and other animal. […] Sun came from behind clouds and spread many small rainbows, birds would become excited, come out from crevasses in rock face and would glory in the sprays of water and the rainbows, they swoon doing acrobatics this way and that. Like when Homer says that on some Asian meadow tribes of geese, and crane and long-necked swans glory in the power of their wings above it, then land between the rivers, in Skamandrian plain, with a great clang. Is not enough just to say, what is purpose of this to survival or reproduction? Surely some pedant can make a story. But when you see this behavior, is not so alien. Maybe, in happiest moments you were free to act and feel the same: what anything to do with survival or reproduction! That kind of heavy necessity is the spirit of gravity, and this is opposite. That petty and cramped view of life…but in truth, life as it is, when free, life in abundance knows luxury, surfeit and waste…survival and reproduction are side effects of something else… (10–11)

BAP does not explicitly put it in these terms, but it is obvious that while the confinement and ugliness of the modern world drain the spirit, beauty has the opposite effect.

Fucking dope. I'll get right on reading that.

[–]rawrlolrofl 9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with this completely and feel like the "red pill's" answer is 'find your mission.' Which to me sounds like, make up some fantasy as to why you're here... but come on, we have to know that's bullshit, that we are evolved apes, on a spinning rock destined for nothingness. It's just incongruent to reality to me (a part of being alpha is being congruent to the truth) to just say make up some belief as to what your 'purpose' is... But I guess it could be that since there is no fucking reason for being here - that we've had the illusion of women (wife, kids, etc.) ripped from our psyche's - is to just do whatever the fuck makes us happy... which is STILL meaningless in the big picture. So it's just be as selfish as you want to/can be. That's all I see it as. Can you not be happy just fucking as many bitches as you can the rest of your life? It is purposeless... but perhaps it's just our ego talking that we need purpose... maybe we are just advanced monkeys and our sole purpose is reproduction. Why not excel at that?

anyway, i agree with you and find most answers on this subreddit to be fucking bullshit. If you look at the forecast for the universe, the conclusion seems to be it ends in ice. There is no purpose, no heaven, no hell. Just do whatever you feel like while trying to mitigate the worst outcomes in the process. That's where I'm at anyway. Same journey as you.

[–]Savior1666 2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I would honestly look into your diet. (don't go vegan) Maybe even fasting. Look into the Carnivore diet and try that for a while. Then slowly bring back other foods untill you start feeling bad, then you'll figure out which foods aren't meshing with you.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I have made adjustments, mostly just lowering carbs, and generally 5 days a week I eat the same meals that I've optimized over the last 3 years. It has helped for sure.

I only recently started fasting (about 3 weeks ago) and noticed right away I got leaner.

You're talking about a level of awareness that transcends what we are taught. I've been through a few lives myself. Almost twice your age and can confirm, it's all bullshit. But you know what keeps me going? Curiosity. I'm curious as to how much money I can make, how many women I can get. How things will turn out. Plain old curios about everything.

Does it matter? Fuck no, nothing does, that's the beauty of it though, you know there are no consequences. And it's all bullshit. That gives you lots of leeway to fuck up and do shit. So just enjoy your newfound freedom from consequences, there are none. At least none that matter, hehehe.

[–]papunigga031 2 points3 points  (7 children) | Copy Link

Try things and find a passion. It sounds stupid but that’s really what you need. You’re not gonna understand what passion is until you experience it.

Learn an instrument. Travel. Start playing a sport. Whatever. Just try shit until you find something you’re good at and then make that your focus.

[–]rawrlolrofl 5 points6 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm gonna say what I've always thought but never said when people say this shit. You think playing a fucking instrument is going to replace the nothingness the TRP gives us when we find that our life purpose, finding a wife, making a family (be fucking honest here, that is 99% of most men's reason for doing ANYTHING, especially blue pill) is bullshit? We've all played sports, tried and instrument... MADE UP what gives us passion and interest... I'm sorry but playing a sport, doing other meaningless activities will interest you for awhile until you get bored of it. It's a nice little suggestion but that's not going to sustain your reason for living (purpose) forever... come on man. That's horse shit.

And the reason most guys are asking for "life advice" or to find meaning on TRP is because for the majority of men, finding women and making a family IS their ultimate goal. If you're in denial about this you obviously don't talk to real people in the real world. Every guy I know is looking to build a life and start a family. We've just had that part taken out, it's not WORTH it. That is a massive incentive to take away from men and then just say replace it with learning how to strum a fucking guitar. Fuck.

[–]papunigga031 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Having a passion or purpose is supposed to lead you into something bigger. Play an instrument? Start a band and enjoy doing so. Create graphic designs? Start a graphic design company and enjoy doing so. Be the master of your own domain. Make the world your bitch.

You can either bitch and moan like a little pussy, or do something and give your OWN life meaning instead of waiting for it to be served to you on a silver platter.

If “finding a woman and starting a family” are your ultimate goals in today’s sexual climate, well good fucking luck buddy. Accept how things are and then you’ll stop being depressed and bitching on the internet.

Enjoy the decline.

[–]ItSmellsLikeRain2day 1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Meaning lies in building a family etc because we for the longest time decided that it lies there. You choose your own meaning. And your meaning of life can be anything from collecting Pokemon cards (like this YouTuber I know) to going to Mars (Like Elon Musk). You're stuck because you haven't decided and dedicated to any specific thing.

If your meaning remains building a family and finding a wife, that's cool. That's acceptable. TRP doesn't suggest not to do that. That would go against our base instincts. What TRP tries to tell us is that we have been going about building that meaningful life the wrong way and with the wrong expectations and attitude. If you buy a horse and expect it to meow, YOU'RE the one who needs to re-evaluate themselves. That's all TRP is.

[–]DownyGall 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

“We for the longest time decided it was there.” Is it that or did thousands of years of human tradition across cultures arrive to that same conclusion separately? It’s a bold move to think you know better than thousands of years of human tradition.

[–]ItSmellsLikeRain2day -1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I meant that on an individual scale. And it makes sense that most people reach that conclusion because of our innate desire to reproduce.

[–]Zsaqwes7 -1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I think having marriage is still a great goal, especially if you want to eventually have kids. Marriage is just trp on hard mode and is not as magical as the blue pill has you believe, but I believe it's still the highest level of intimacy you can have with someone and provides way more satisfaction. Living life alone just doesnt seem fulfilling..

[–]mickenrorty 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I don’t have time to go in depth but I can certainly say it’s incredible what the mind can achieve with a goal and a stubborn relentless will to achieve it.

We’re all going to die, every single one of us.

Why not do something fucken cool before we’re recycled back to where we came from.

The darkness is an illusion, it’s also generally the truth and truth is power

[–]LeEbinConchShell 2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

im in the same place but im 28. The best general goal that anyone should have is to buckle down for 10-15 years, do NOTHING but work, and retire early. Work is slavery and something to be avoided at all costs. The best "purpose" that anyone can aspire to without being to specific or nuanced is FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early (i think)). Nothing does matter, and telling you to "get some hobbies," doesn't satiate that reality. However, having the freedom and time to introspect, think, digest lofty philosophical material, travel, etc will quell that feeling you have to a certain degree. Don't go see a therapist for """""depression"""" either. Everyone who perceives reality correctly will be depressed at the prospect of being a wageslave for 20-30 years as the world steadily declines.

[–]chaching131 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem with this is men truly need a purpose to combat the existential dread present in every human (except those humans who are absolutely allergic to deeper thought or questioning). There’s a reason a lot of men die pretty quickly when they retire (or keep working part time until they die). “ a man tends to live longer when he has a job to do”, I know this sounds like bullshit but I don’t think it is. A person needs a job, a purpose. It’s the fundamental solution to the philosophically certain meaninglessness of life. Create meaning. Often times people are told to take up a hobby but a hobby is just called that because your mediocre at it, someone else is getting paid to do that hobby. Guitar, woodworking, welding, golf, fishing, art, writing etc. if any of us could retire tomorrow we’d simply be facing the question “what do I want to do with the rest of my life”. Providing for a family used to take up a lot of time and present a good solution to this dilemma. Now the family structure has been ruined in the west. Hedonistic traveling and banging random chicks is not only unsustainable but unfulfilling. Ideally this man and all of of us find a passion and make it our life's work but we can’t all be so lucky.

But there is nothing I enjoy doing. I wish there was, and I could go all out.

This is the most intellectually lazy concept I can think of with the youth of today.

You have literally finger access to all of the known cumulative knowledge of human history available to you at any moment, and you can't figure out a single topic of interest to pursue in life?

You still sound like your only direction in life is getting your dick wet as often as possible, but are somewhat discouraged by the nature of women so perhaps that's in direct conflict with your primary driving interest.

And if you did have this perfect woman, and you had your way with her whenever you wanted throughout the day and night, what would you then do with the rest of the 18 hours of your day? A unicorn LTR won't solve your problem of extreme disinterest.

Why don't you try putting yourself in extremely uncomfortable situations? It'll force you to grow and perhaps reveal some direction or inspiration in your life...

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

This is the most intellectually lazy concept I can think of with the youth of today.

I understand the distain, I had my career in STEM because I thought if I couldn't find my passion, at least, I'd do something for society. But once something is work, it slowly begins to suck, and I've had terrible bosses my whole career, which is why I tried to replace my income, but am worse off than before

[–]redHussar 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

You built your narcissistic fantasy of how your world and life should look like. And when reality got to you then it shattered.

You are what you do, not what you think. Look back from afar at your life and what you believe.

What I can recommend and what I use in my life - focus on process not outcome. There wont be a end goal, therefore I try to enjoy the ride.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]kenbu 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Have you tried a good, paid personality test? If you have a very low percentile in trait openness, this would explain a lot of how you are feeling. If so it's in your genetics. I've heard that psychedelics can increase your trait openness.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd like to try DMT

[–]sorsscriba 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

You sound like me except add about 10 years. Honestly get on some meds to at least get you by until you can get your life back in order. Taking control and responsibility over your own life includes recognizing when you need help.

[–]ToraChan23 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I realize no one gives a shit about me, and that I'm disposable.

Give a shit about yourself. Be valuable to yourself.

I also have known instinctively for many years (and experienced) how a woman will destroy a man.

Don't allow one to destroy you.

But there is nothing I enjoy doing.

THIS should be your main focus right now. Go out and try many things, especially things you haven't done before. Keep trying things until you find something that is on your mind constantly, even when you aren't doing anything related to it.

Watch videos, listen to speeches on different topics, products, industries. Go to events. Get out of your comfort zone. There are a lot of things to get into.

Worst that can happen is you try something, have a bad time, and realize that whatever it was isn't for you.

I just have always had this feeling that none of this fucking matters.

Make it matter to YOU. Take a long and hard look at yourself and ask what you ultimately want in life. You need to start there.

[–]mustard5 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

It is hard to know what to say to you. I'm 50+ now and I've been through some tedious and disappointing years. I would say I've had periods of chronic depression that lasted for many years. Having discovered my own solutions, it is hard for me to remember what it was like to be in your situation. The simple answer is that I don't allow myself to dwell on things like that. Thought makes the man. What we speak into the world becomes reality for us, because the imagination is as real as the material world in terms of its psychic effect.

I do recall a time when I started to embrace the mystery of life and began to deconstruct and reconsider all the premises upon which I had built my existence. The most illuminating one was the revelation that nearly everything I had been told or believed myself was a lie. The dark night of the soul, when I thought I was going to die on my bed in a confused haze of alcohol and marijuana.

The exploration of the mystery of life is purpose in itself. Kierkegaard once said (paraphrased), that we live life looking forward, but can only understand looking backwards. As we live forward it is like a sensate experience without full cognition of its meaning, as we contemplate that experience we gain the meaning but are are no longer living in the senses. So how we flip between the two has some influence on our state of mind and sometimes we can get trapped in one, without realizing it. A sensate life devoid of meaning, or a life with meaning but without experience of being alive.

Jung talks of expansion and contraction in the process of individuation. We push out to what we believe we might be, and then contract to what reality has shown we are. The external world is mirrored in our internal world. Seasons, tides, birth and death. I have trouble imagining now that there is nothing in life left to explore. The deeper you dive, the more fascinating it becomes.

Where you are now, is not where you will be in the future. It sometimes takes faith to believe that.

How long you been around TRP? This could be the depression phase. I remember I was doing such high risk activity, just to feel during this time, that I almost killed myself several times.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I grew up the only boy with four sisters, I figured out most of this stuff on my own, TRP helped validate and rough out the edges.

[–]1Terminal-Psychosis 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Look up the phases of greif / grieving process, and know acceptance is in the end.

It's a life-long journey to adulthood though. We go back through the different reactions again and again until we're good with it, and ourselves.

TRP helps you be aware of exactly what you've "lost", the bluepill fantasy. In the end, you're MUCH better off for hurting about it now, temporarily, than never waking up.

Can't fix something if you don't know what's broken.

Then damn.

Have you tried drugs?

[–]HectoSexual 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Religion helped too, but wasn’t that great without the first 2 things.

[–]hrm0894 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

MGTOW is all about being content with who you are and finding peace from within. It is the ultimate freedom. As men we are disposable utilities, unless you go MGTOW. Then you give society the finger and live however the fuck you want to live.

Good luck.

[–]Foolishoe 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I was going to suggest military LOL. FUCK, I have a buddy that's living this same life situation. I have no good advice, maybe someone else does.

The juice isn't really worth the squeeze man, it's the same 5 basic senses doing the same shit till you die. It's just life man, it's not supposed to be anything overly fantastic, it just is.

Maybe you need religion. I like Zen, Taoism, Yoga is badass. I like Sufi poetry and I've got a love for singing and music that doesn't come close to many other experiences. There are horrible days and good days but great days are rare and that's okay because eventually we die, just like flowers and trees and all the rest of the animals. Then we don't have to do this shit anymore.

None of it needs to matter. Think of all the colonies of ants built and destroyed. Think about how many times planets like ours have probably made it this far, just to get hit with a huge asteroid and kill all the actually cool badasses.

It just is man.

[–]W_O_M_B_A_T 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I realize no one gives a shit about me, and that I'm disposable.

Huh?

Why don't you give a shit about you?

What other people think about you is irrelevant to the issue. Stop inventing reasons not to give a shit about yourself.

Why are you disposing of yourself?

Those are the real question you need to be asking.

I also have known instinctively for many years (and experienced) how a woman will destroy a man.

These hypothetical men aren't victims. Everyone deserves the worst treatment they're not willing to walk away from. This is always directly proportional to their willingness to take women's behavior personally.

If a man is "destroyed" it's because of sunk cost fallacy. He wasn't willing to take his time, energy, attention, and presence elsewhere.

This is often because he thinks women somehow give a single shit about their past investments of time and energy, like it was some kind of bank account (entitlement.)

In this sense, I don't really see much to look forward to.

The world is an open door, and a seat at the feast table. If you don't want to eat much of anything because it all looks too bitter or salty to you, then who are we to question your view?

Bite off as little or as much as you like.

But there is nothing I enjoy doing. I wish there was, and I could go all out.

How many things have you tried?Sounds like you're afraid of failure.

I think this is congenital for me, I remember having these same thoughts in kindergarten,

Learned Helplessness.

Usually develops around age 2-4 at the same time children are learning about boundaries and attachment. It's a response to the parent-child dynamic

and every fucking time I brought this up it was always: it will get better when X.

But you didn't want it to get better, because that would be antithetical your basic ideas about being helpless, unworthy and ignored that your parents taught you when you were a toddler, without quite meaning to.

See your first paragraph, which is really your Modus Operandi.

The struggle doesn't seem worth the pay off.

You don't want it to be.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks I appreciate it, most of this is right, but I'm not afraid of failure, I think I've failed a lot. What do you recommend doing?

[–]crkdopn 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It's called nihilism. Make a purpose for yourself. If life is meaningless might as well make this one count if only for your own satisfaction.

[–]0mnipath 1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Have you done psychedelics?

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]0mnipath 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I suggest mushrooms and ayahuasca. Will literally change your life.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I absolutely would, next time I see my friend who might know about this stuff I'll mention it

[–]i-am-fish 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean you hit the nail on the head....find your propose... Look self improvement helps alot especially hobbies that you find worthwhile and fulfilling, perhaps even teaching with respect to you hobbies or interest would help you kinda feel fulfilled.

One thing especially if you are an american is to literally get out of the states and as stupid as it sounds bring a backpack with you and just travel around Europe. Dont even worry about trying to bang chicks in different cities or countries just get out and explore, the reason I say this is maybe your current environment is just taking a toll on you both mentally and physically and Its just you saying you need something different. part of this is just looking around and finding something that you enjoy or setting up new plans and goals for yourself

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

"I realize no one gives a shit about me, and that I'm disposable. I also have known instinctively for many years (and experienced) how a woman will destroy a man..... In this sense, I don't really see much to look forward to."

you can't tie the meaning of life to how a woman will or wont treat you/or men in general.

i know he's not loved by many on RP but have you heard of or read Jordon B. Peterson? (maps of meaning, 12 rules for life) he may want men to marry for the bp benefits to society but his views on finding meaning in life and the benefit of struggle and toil and picking up a heavy load resonate with many a young man who may have been in a similar boat to you.

[–]Greaterbird 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

First you get depressed that no one gives a shit about you and that nothing you do matters to anyone else.

Then you realize it's freedom, because those people aren't out to get you either - they just don't care.

[–]sd4c 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I recommend traveling to somewhere you're the boss. Like Guatemala or Vietnam. Make a few pals, take some language lessons.

Figure out what skills are needed there (business, medicine) and return home to learn them.

Go back and become the top IT, business, or medical guy in that third-world small town. You will find that women in very poor countries have precious little resistance to "game", so long as you are fit and have the equivalent of $40,000/yr, you can basically have your pick of the litter.

Have a few kids, raise them right. Grow old surrounded by your grandkids.

Note: do not attempt this in a westernized country such as the US or Canada. You will just get divorce-raped, and they will even take your passport to prevent you from starting over

[–]pyth0ns 1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Also I'd recommend training very High Intensity at the gym.

Stimulating your creative side, helps with mental health and stability. Catch is, it is hard to do... That is why focus on the music as you enjoy/passionate about it.

High Intensity at the gym, helps with potential rage/aggression... Get it all out! Guarantee after 8xSets of 8xReps at 45sec-1min rest max of AssToGrass Squats will leave you K'O'D

I feel you are slipping into nihilism. Have you read Camus? Read "The Plague" by him. It's a metaphor so you have to read it like that, but you should be able to see it.

Usually I tell people to find God but I get that's not for everyone. Try reading some Camus and see if he can convert you from nihilist to absurdist.

Nothing does matter, rip that band-aid off now. You’re not depressed, you’re waking up. You’re realizing the cold indifference of the universe.

Some hide from that—with drugs, alcohol, material goods, religion, but the purest life faces it squarely.

Give yourself some tools. Study some basic science, read some Seneca or Aurelius, exercise everyday, spend time outside, spend time alone, meditate. Perfect your life.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children) | Copy Link

thats semantics, and not the point of this discussion; what I mean is basically what you said: women don't bring purpose either, and mostly just pain

[–]BurnieSlander 0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

No that’s you missing the point. Stop blaming women for the shit and lack of direction in your life. Women are actually great.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

I didn't blame women for anything, I just don't think they are the solution to any of my problems.

They are basically amplifiers: if you have a good life, a woman makes it better; if you have a bad life, a woman makes it worse.

[–]BurnieSlander 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

That’s quite a different philosophy from what you said about women bringing mostly pain. You should decide on which one you believe more

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I should have stated it better in my original post, but the comment you replied to is the more accurate view.

My personal experience is still consistent, because most relationships I've had, I haven't really been in a good situation, and they just made it worse. But I have had some great relationships, and it was my own fault those got screwed up.

TRP is a TOOLBOX to get what YOU want out of life and you're using it to get ENDS without thinking of the MEANS. Here's something I recently learned. Nobody enjoys doing anything until they're good at it. Your purpose is to imagine the guy you wish you were and work at it until you can enjoy BEING him. Nobody likes playing basix shitty music on an instrument until they get good at a hard song. Nobody enjoys talking to girls until they get good at being witty. Nobody likes negotiating until they know their winning strategy for getting a good deal over the next person. You need to look internally and figure out what you want to be and PUSH THROUGH THE PAIN AND BOREDOM. Do you want to be a millionaire by losing a leg and suing at some rich company's expense, or do you want to be able to serenade 15 people with an original song on guitar, which might make you rich, or might not. The biggest joys I've ever had with the small amount of money I have came from giving it away.

[–]thetotalpackage7 0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

Have you checked your Test level? Low test can cause a drab, worrisome existence. So can high body fat %.

Daily cardio and lifting helps with mood and a sense of purpose to be healthy. There is no magic pill around that fact.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

I did check my test level, normal, and I'm in pretty good shape (90 mins fitness, 6 days a week, good diet); definitely better than being out of shape, but not a panacea

[–]thetotalpackage7 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Good to hear it. Regarding the test, the "normal" range, depending on the lab can be 280-1100. While 280 might be normal for a 90 year old, it's certainly not for a 30 year old. Be sure to look at your actual number.

Perhaps get really good at jujitsu, guitar, dirtbiking, learning spanish, joining a mens basketball league? Poker tourneys, triathalons, building a biz and selling it, retiring early, sailing around the world, starting a band, volunteering in the cancer ward etc.... Maybe one of these will create a spark. Good luck to you bro.

[–]throwawaylife58924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks, I do jujitsu, it helped a lot. I was much much worse off without it. Lost a lot of money trying to make a business.

But I do see the general theme is just to keep trying and doing stuff, I feel like I have tried for years, but I will still keep looking.

Let me just say that I was in this boat and I can probably relate to how exactly you're feeling right now. I probably still am in this boat honestly, but let me start by telling you that it's okay to not have a purpose. The thing about not having a purpose is that you just have to be able to accept that fact. And when you do a lot of things will open up for you.

I personally don't have much that I really am passionate about, so I did the next best thing, I tried doing anything and everything. I ran a business, it failed. I dabbled in creative writing. I never finished. I traveled, lived in different places for months at a time. I ended up deciding that home is still where the heart is. I started creating music, not for the reason of becoming famous, I just wanted to learn how to do it. I bullshitted myself in a job offer that I KNOW I have no idea on doing. I learned, and still learn everything on the job. I started all those things without knowing how to do any of it. I learned along the way. And when I felt that it was time to move on, I found something else to do. You always do. That's the beauty of learning, it never ends.

I embraced a nihilistic perspective. I accepted it. We live and then we die. If you can accept that, then look on the bright side, you can't do literally anything you want.

Thanks, part of me just wants to just accept everything as-is, and hope maybe something serendipitous happens

i realize im not a red pill man but i have some advice! lol

sounds like you're a bit depressed or low on T. might wanna try a low dose ssri or get on a couple cc's of T ? ask your doctor. no shame in that.

getting on a little bit of T could change your life honestly. will also make you shoot blanks so no pregnant plates twirling around.

i had similar thoughts my whole life until i got off gluten and soy weirdly. my mental health got even better when i got on keto. i was flyin. if thats not for you, you can actually take ketone bodies exogenously from the supplement store. the 2 ketone bodies are aceto-acetate and betahydroxybutarate (BHB), so your body makes your own feel good chemicals.

Anywho. Things can still change. Don't lose hope. Also don't take this shit too seriously. Try to find joy in the small things. Get a cat.

Was it on the high end of normal or the low end? sincerely, it matters. Imo, if it's not high, its low.

I think it was on the high end, that being said, it could've decreased from whatever it was 5 years ago. I'm not sure

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
