Death in the family (self.askRPC)

submitted by yagop1

Gents, I just received news that my father died in an accident. For those of you who have experienced this, please lend me some advice on funeral arrangements. He and my mother are in Korea. Well likely need to transport his body to America. I am in the military as well. My family now depends on my decisions this point on. Any tips are appreciated. Thank you.

Here is a comprehensive checklist of steps to take and things to take care of. Not all of it will be applicable, but it's a pretty good list. You have my condolences and my prayers.

Didn't see this mentioned, but talk to your CO.

I'm sure that they have had this situation happen before and can give you a bunch of advice themselves or someone they know (for free too).

keep a list of all the incoming tasks you need to accomplish, no one is ever prepared for this kind of life event, most survive them by will power and a good support system. Every time you are asked to call someone, funeral home, relative ect, write it down and progress through the list one task at a time. Live the next couple weeks moment to moment not looking for the end, it will be easier to do every single task as an end goal in it self than to try to simply make it through this time of pain and memory.

God speed.

Meet with a funeral director. They can help with the logistical arrangements. Condolences.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
