I don’t see myself pedastilizing women like I used to anymore. Even though some may be expecting things like flowers all the time or chocolates or gifts or whatever.

I’ve seen many engagement photos and a lot of them really make me cringe. I don’t think I’d be able to do all that.

Idk if I just haven’t met someone I loved enough to do those “sweet” things with or I don’t see women as good ol angels anymore.

Is this a problem? Do I have a bad outlook on this?

Here's the way that I looked at my wedding (especially since the in-laws paid for it): I saw it as a giant party where everyone I know and love were invited. Cliche', I know, but it really was one of the best days of my life, and not simply because my wife and I were being joined together. It was just a day of pure joy and celebration. Prior to the ceremony, I hung out with my groomsmen and my father, drinking and reliving old stories. We had a blast. Then we did the ceremony. Afterward, my wife and I went to take some pictures, while everyone else had some appetizers and drinks before the actual reception. Once that was done, we came in for the reception and had our first dance, ate food, had our parents and friends give speeches. Then we cut the cake, and that was the last "official wedding thing" we did. The DJ kicked in, we all started drinking and having fun. We all celebrated until late into the night. It was the best wedding I've ever been at, and most everyone that was there agrees.

Here's the key: your wedding is a celebration of your joining together. It doesn't have to be some solemn event if that's not what you like. Remember Christ turning water into wine? He did it because a wedding ran out of wine. Never let anyone tell you that a celebration like that is wrong.

Amen, i'd upvote you 10x if i could.

That’s not the main reason Jesus did that. I get your point though

It may not be the main reason but it was Christ who helped keep the party going. If it was wrong to celebrate, or even to celebrate exorbitantly he wouldn't have.

My sister met her betabux and they're getting married. They're both country people preferring to live on a farm/ranch. She is not fru fru. Shes looking at it in a similar way to rifleshoot. It's a big party. Colors are red and blue, and its circus themed. Cotton candy, peanuts, and other snack foods. No dancing, except for a single groom/bride dance. 400+ people expected. Just going to be a lot of eating and talking. No alcohol.

Yeah that’s gonna be a no from me dawg

Not cuz of the no alcohol thing but that’s just too much for one day. Probably will cost above 50k.

Geez it really will be a circus for the poor dude.

Actually their budget is 2k. So its definitely being done on the cheap. Lots of help from friends and family.

Woah nvm. That’s a deal

Weddings can be different things to different people. I used mine to celebrate both my wife and I's coming together as married couple ando make a public statement to my family and friends on what my belief a marriage is supposed to be.

If you hate parties or celebrating that might be why you haven't found someone worthwhile - women don't want an Eeyore.

Haha I’m no Eeyore. I love a good celebration and parties. I’m just not gonna spend 30 grand on a wedding for the sake of fitting the social mold and to fit in with the instagrams and Facebook couples.

I think if we looked at the first wedding in scripture and compared it to what is commonly practiced as a wedding ceremony now by the majority of churches we would see a spectrum of what passes for acceptable that's more informed by culture and preference than scripture or righteousness.

[–]agoodcrayon[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah.... majority of people are diving into culture and being influenced by it versus having a Biblical foundation.

People are mixing Christianity and Culture. The line between the two is getting thinner and thinner. We are to be in the world but not of it.

It's not getting thinner, it's getting accessorized with dresses rings and tuxes. A pretty concession is easier to get into the chapel than an ugly one.

What’s your definition of “goo goo ga ga”?

We had an afternoon wedding. I made all of my own decorations, had it in my home church, and served cake instead of a full meal. 150 guests & we did hire a photographer.

Hopefully you’ll find someone who matches your aesthetic.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
