David and Michal (self.askRPC)

submitted by Tpetplayr

So, I was reading 2nd Samuel 6 about David dancing before the Lord, and Michal despising him, My question is; from a RP perspective, WHY did she despise him? Obviously he's the king, and the alpha, his response to her is DNGAF, so why was she upset? As near as I can tell, in v. 20 she talks about him being 'uncovered' - whatever that means in context - in front of the maidservants, and so I'm thinking that dread was in play here, and she didn't like that. Anyone got any thoughts to lend more insight on this, or a different perspective?

Never try to look at Scripture "from a RP perspective." Don't eisegete your own ideas into the text - especially when trying, as this post intends to do, to force some reconciliation.

Michal saw David dancing in front of other women in his underwear. Why is it hard to understand why she would be upset by this? She's embarrassed at her husband's indiscretion. Are you married? How would your wife feel if you hired a housekeeper and danced around the house in your underwear while they were trying to clean your living room?

By getting into dread, you're over-thinking things. Dread is a tool, not a mechanism for interpreting every relational dynamic. To a hammer, everything looks like a nail. To a man holding a hammer, he can choose to put it down and pick up a screwdriver.

I’m surprised you said never look at scripture from RP lens. There are lots of red pill truths in the Bible.

Right. We can notice the overlap when they occur. But seeing something "through a lens" usually means you're letting that lens affect how you interpret it. We should not go into Scriptural study trying to force red pill concepts into the way we interpret the Bible; rather, we let the Bible speak for itself and marvel at the way the secular red pill crowd has independently discovered through observation of creation the same things the Bible could have told them if they'd only looked.

In other words, look at the RP truths through a Biblical lens.

Yes, not the other way around.

The footnote from my Bible;

"Michal’s reaction to David’s dancing comes from her conception of how a king should comport himself. David rejects this understanding, saying he needs no instruction from the house of the failed king, Saul."

So it sounds to me more like a personal issue that caused her resentment: if her dad was a failed king, then she might look for any way to criticize a more successful one, out of bitterness. (Especially if she was old, it doesn't mention that apparently.) And in general it's true that rulers usually don't dance around in priestly garments. Lol

Michal stayed childless her whole life after this event. It doesn’t say whether God caused this or it happened by her own volition.

To me, it sounds like God favored David’s celebration and it shouldn’t matter how His name is praised as long as Glory is truly given to Him.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
