I’ve been Instagram and Snapchat-less for about 3 months. Never had FB. I didn’t really have a reason for my deletion other than how heavily it was encouraged by some in TRP so I deactivated everything to try it.

Last week I went on Instagram.com to login to my business’s Insta which automatically reactivated my personal and when I tried to deactivate it, it said to wait 7 days. Ok.

With IG I later realized I fell into the pitfalls of validation like a woman would. I’d post a shirtless pic and scroll through all 500 people who liked the picture and see what hotties gave me that crumb of validation to get my ego through the week. Comments too - dissecting every female comment at 5827437 angles. It’s so pathetic. Snapchat - I just realized it was the orbiters version of a phone number.

Over the 3 months I realized I was going against the grain. People ask where you went, why you don’t have it. A few thought I was being bullied. It was weird. Which makes me question if those preaching to delete have any idea wtf they’re talking about. So I think I might just leave it up and stay off it. If I don’t have the app and I’m not scrolling/liking/posting, but rather just have an inactive presence there it’s probably enough to enjoy benefits and to avoid the costs. Messages will go unanswered but if someone searches my name, they’ll see a private profile with a douchebag shirtless profile pic and a few thousand followers with half I follow back. No bio. Nothing there to harm me - typical timeless college kid profile.

This seems to be the most reasonable course of action to deal with my faults. Full deletion creates more complications than it fixed. Interested to hear the reasons why you deleted - assuming they’re deeper than the typical “it’s a waste of time” etc

FOMO kicks in at times, seeing everybody out and about makes you want to join them. Realised that they're spending hundreds of thousands of dollars or even debt on weekends because they got caught in the FOMO trap.

As you said, the validation. Wanting to get your phone out and record or take a photo specifically to upload and receive validation for it. Plus it's all just fake, a facade. Another mask people put on. Their online identity is so completely different from their self irl.

Deleted FB cos it's a bottomless pit of people's thoughts and opinions, I think I actually lost iq using Facebook. Snapchat was the glory parts of everybody's life, The entire night/weekend uploaded onto their story. it's sad they live the experience through their phone rather than their eyes. Never used Instagram so don't know what it's like. Holy fuck god forbid you ever use tiktok much less make content for it.

It was mainly the FOMO part, opening the app to see what's going on in the lives of the people around me. Trust after a couple months you realised you haven't missed out on shit and the people still living their lives exactly the same way.

The only social media I use now is messenger, an anon account on twitter which I use to follow the self improvement side of twitter. By all means you can have the apps and use them, but don't be used by them. Plus those apps are designed to put you in a trance state, they're natural hypnotisers. They put you in a flow state where you just keep doing what you're doing.

Watch this to understand what narcissism is which was like another redpill swallow for me honestly, it blew my view on how people use their online presence to have such a narcissistic personality.

[–]pilot333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

The FOMO is one thing I didn’t get. I have narcissistic traits that make me really not care about what others are up to.

I think I’ll just stay off them for now. Maybe download the app later in the year to post a physique update to show I’m +70 pounds but honestly probably won’t even do that.

[–]Cyntack0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

What are some of your favorite self-improvement accounts to follow on twitter?

[–]Jessor692 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Ellobosalvaje, mikermedici, benwestgate_, ranaaere, midlifemoves, narxism, masculinemillenial, quintuscurtius, sgkdontplay, wallstplayboys.

There's more but these guys guaranteed to never fail.

[–]FiftyShadesOfSwole92 points93 points  (13 children) | Copy Link

If you're the type of person with low self-discipline/self control in that area, you'll feel a lot more of the negative effects (wasted time, validation seeking, etc). If you have the ability to apply some discipline, it can be something that helps you immensely (maintain connections, find new groups, network for business, etc).

I think people who delete social media are just admitting they don't have the discipline to use this tool in a positive way. I personally DO use social media, because this technology is out here and ready to be used for your benefit; and it's not going away any time soon. What you do with it is totally up to you.

[–]Jessor6916 points17 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I think people who delete social media are just admitting they don't have the discipline to use this tool in a positive way.

This 100%. I thought I could keep them on my phone but not open them, every time I would open them and scroll for so long without realising. The only way was to delete them.

[–]FiftyShadesOfSwole11 points12 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Which is totally fine and I have no problem with, it's your choice at the end of the day. What I do have a problem with is people who say social media is useless, time waster, free validation etc.

All of those things are choices they CHOOSE to use social media for. Then they go waste their time on other shit like video games and feel superior. SMH.

[–]bandraboyz1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't have social media but i have a Business account in all. I deleted social media because I see dumbass people there, hypocrites and assholes.

[–]Zapche-1 points0 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

So are you going to delete your life? Cause those same hypocrites, dumasses and assholes walk amongst you every day

[–]bandraboyz0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

So people in Social media are not actual hypocrites or dumbass. These same people in real life will agree to most of the thing or keep quite when they know they will blow out shit from their mouth. They won't take a stand outside social media because they know they won't win. They won't do what they post. They post motivation, good things, they portray their personality like they want to become and actually are totally opposite. My sister does that. She'd be posting happy mother's day and how to treat your mom and in reality she is pathetic. I don't want to be a part of such groups. But I know these dumbass hypocrites are useful for something and that is sell my product. I'm not targeting everyone cause I know there are some good people in Social media but it's just not enough for me be more available in Social media. Obviously I don't delete my life because there are same people out their but at least they are genuine and can be tackled easily because they are also dumb. If not, then who cares. In Social media they are inevitable. Also there are lots of other reason to leave social media like privacy. Also i have noticed one thing the more you know a person on social media the less you will know her in reality because their personality differs.

[–]Quo2102 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

This pretty much. Tools are not good or bad, it all boils down to how you use them. Reddit is another good example. Use it to learn or to watch cat posts.

[–]ElegantCyclist2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Not under 25 but people delete because it's retarded

[–]iwviw0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]z2a1-90 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

This 100% networking is essential.

[–]AntonioOSalazar0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

For me it was the privacy issues and the constant feed filled with leftists pc propaganda. I deleted my face, I still have Ig. If you have friends that do everything on Facebook they might not be exactly aligned with your life goals

[–]WhatRemainsAfter0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I trust you know the individual is against multi-billion dollar corporations that spend billions trying to hack the human brain to make the platform as addictive as possible. If you have ever played a game that you got addicted to - like COC or PubG, You know what I am talking about. These platforms are specifically designed to make you feel the FOMO.

Even if Buddha is born in the 21st century, Dawg will feel the effect of FOMO and lack of discipline because shit is soft-wired to trigger basic instincts.

[–]ChemicalGiraffe0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Or its just irrelevant to some people, what connections do you get on instagram? I have linkedin and real life for that.

[–]patchwhole8 points9 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Waste of time, adds to mystery

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (7 children) | Copy Link

Facebook is garbage, Instagram is more of a dedicated cloud storage for images and for keeping in contact with people, snapchat is for sexting. If you are posting shirtless pics of yourself then it is you who are seeking validation, a strong well built body doesn't require you taking off your shirt. Having a media account is different from using it a socio-addictive drug to live a simulation of dreams is another thing.

[–]443610660 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

What’s the difference between instagram and snapchat regarding sexting? Aren’t snap girls also women you’ve met in real life?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

I dunno never really sexed much on insta

[–]443610660 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Do they hit you up on snap or the other way around?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Insta first from there when things get going we move on to snap it's easier that way tbh. Also I have had less success when I have texted first.need to create interest. Also social media like insta is a way to demonstrate your hobbies they can scroll through them and hit you up with something from. Reminder They are in abundance so are we.

[–]RacistMuffin0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Personally, I set up shirtless photos as sex traps for a lot of female friends. A lot of the time, I have the benefit of them messaging me first and hooking up with me. I do not do this excessively however, but keep in mind that I use Tinder as well to keep my friends list on social media specifically for pulling girls through dating app game.

[–]BodomDeth0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

like you post a shirtless pick as bait watch the fish bite? story or regular pic

[–]RacistMuffin0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Shirtless pic showing gym progress

[–]Cringe_Machine4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I would take social media breaks. Whenever I would come back I noticed that I would start to feel worse about myself.

The brain constantly compares itself to others. And on social media I get this constant low level of jealousy and feeling of not living a good life. Hard to describe.

I got rid of it and I feel so much better.

[–]garebear199594 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m a conservative person by nature.i just feel gross using facebook/instagram.and most of all I give so little fucks about people and their thoughts that it just isn’t something that interests me.

[–]mikkeldaman8 points9 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Redditors of reddit, what's the sexiest sex you ever had?

Now in all seriousness, I don't have any social media (except linkedin) because I don't care very much about people knowing every step that I take. Also I'm quite paranoid about the idea of having an online presence.

[–]levijonsn3 points4 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

My big two were twitter and instagram. I had a pretty nasty breakup with this chick I almost married (quite young, both of us) and for me, it was because I discovered a lot of her little secrets via twitter and instagram. I stopped using it, then I checked it a while later and she was brutally shit talking me, my family, my religion, my friends, everything. Just smearing me all over twitter.

I decided, hey you know what? I never really have anything important to say so there's no real need for twitter. And looking at other people's instagram posts kinda just makes me sick or makes me feel inadequate so I don't really benefit from that either. deleted both.

That was 5 years ago. Now, I'm only on reddit and I do snapchat friends and coworkers. I never had a bad association w snapchat so I guess I never felt the need to get rid of it haha. I've had a lot more rewarding, quality time minding my own business and working on my own shit and not paying attention to what other people want me to see.

[–]send_it_for_the_boys2 points3 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Bro........Maybe we dated the same girl

[–]levijonsn1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

lol did you find her in hawaii?

[–]send_it_for_the_boys0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

I did not. But similar thing all but I didn’t have nor did I know anything about Twitter and had no idea about the “finsta” accounts girls make, and the private snapchats. She had all of them, she was posting dirty pictures on the Instagram page and Snapchat using it to get attention, I found she was snapchatting at least 100 different guys behind my back, started posting songs about cheating or girls being whores...I think passively saying I’m getting cheated on.. Twitter isn’t private & I saw with my own eyes about 40 angry bashful posts towards me and her close “friends” on there. I knew it had To be done when I saw that, one of the last times we hung out I was playing on my phone and just said “think I’m going to be like the cool kids & make a Twitter and a second Instagram”. The “I just shit my pants” look on her face...cleared it all up for me. Rough times. Anyway, It’s all in the dust now. & Glad to hear you made it out of that one!!!!

[–]levijonsn0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

laying on my phone and just said “think I’m going to be like the cool kids & make a Twitter

oof. sounds like you dodged a bullet there man good for you!

[–]Escomoz2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

People are so vain and only showing you what they think makes them look good. The inconsiderate nature of showing how great and awesome X thing is in your life or this expensive new thing you purchased, it makes poor or depressed people feel worse about their situations. That was partly how I felt myself. Lastly, how people become social media popular and they have 20+ people from their hometowns liking all of their long winded posts or selfies. When I see people “liking” stuff it makes me feel grossed out because it’s just so superficial..

[–]HotDog-WaterDrip2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

This question belongs on the front page

[–]Greek-God-Brody2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I’d post a shirtless pic and scroll through all 500 people who liked the picture

You must be high-status / top 20% with that amount of likes.

[–]WhatRemainsAfter2 points3 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I have used all kinds of social media barring tic tok. I have been one of the early adopters of each platform. I had my share of fun and kicked ass. But as these platforms grew, I noticed several side effect:

  1. Overthinking continuously. I just couldn't help myself. It was draining all my mental energy.
  2. Lack of control over mobile usage.
  3. I hit some hard times and social media almost become depressing. Seeing all those fake laughters, perfect moments and shit. Realizing every single of them was miserable in real life but pretending to live in utopia almost made me cringe.

I deleted it for 2 years. In the meantime, Career change happened and My job entailed working on these platforms. So, eventually Facebook, Instagram became my bread and butter. And as it is with all the jobs, You lose the appeal over time. I just use the platform to earn money now. It is easy and very quick. Almost like magic. 30 years ago - it must have been a marketer's dream.

Now - My general advice it, It is a very powerful tool of the 21st century. I get it, Why some people want t to avoid these mediums as Zuckerberg has made them cancerous. But these platforms connect the entire world. In times like this pandemic, These platforms power has again shown through. These are here to stay.

Learn how to harness its power for yourself. It is like all these women. When you don't know them, You hate these bitches. But once you understand the game, It becomes all fun.

Women in excess can drive a man mad, same thing is with these platforms. Use it in moderation and you're talking about having a fuckin' good time.

Cheers!

[–]BodomDeth0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

I just use the platform to earn money now.

would mind explaining how?

[–]WhatRemainsAfter0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

I am a digital marketer. So, running ads over social media is one of my jobs.

[–]BodomDeth0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

digital marketer

I personally think this an excellent job where you can climb if you put in the work.

I want to get into this type of job but i would have to start from scratch (I have a degree in something else that Im dissatisfied with).

What would you suggest me as path towards a job like yours?

[–]WhatRemainsAfter0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Imo this is the present and the future. Any job over internet seems so safe and reliable esp in current scenario.

The good thing is that - You don't need a degree in this field. Certain degrees do help to get you entry level jobs but it is knowledge that matters.

Read blog. Watch videos. Don't be afraid to run hit and trials. Make mistakes and learn.

If you know how to use facebook, you will know how to run fb ads as well. Fb has made that shit so simple as they want your money.

Start with your own project/website - what you learn implement that over your own personal project. Over time - you can show this in job interviews what you know and have proof to back that knowledge up.

It is very much intuitive. Everyone is marketing, every fucking time.

Rolle tomassi is a great marketer as well. Dude has a cult following here in TRP world. So, much quality traffic goes to his blogs and others.

I would say - right now you are eligible to be a reddit marketer. You know the place, you know the language.

Approach some small businesses and tell them you would do marketing over reddit for them.

Once moolah is there, you will find a way.

Rest - talk in dedicated communities, you will find more ways to get started.

You got it man, cheers!

[–]estrogenmilk2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm a bad example but I'll provide input. Was a loser on the portrayed internet hierarchy, whilst higher in real life. I'd rather have 0 advertisement of myself than bad advertisement, an All or None policy. If the odd's are not in your favour (ugly no large social circle etc) sometimes the best way to win a rigged game is not to play.

I moved to a town where I knew nobody, an opportunity reinvent myself to be anybody. I made myself quite popular and had a high social status but of course people would ask for some form of social media which I was stubborn to give out which made me seem odd. When I did hand it out however because I don't exactly have 50,000 followers I am suddenly portrayed as a fake loser???????? The fake internet version of you matters more in this day an age and is seems to be viewed as the ''real'' you.

deleting it or lurking with an inactive profile are both unfavourable but maintaining one to look high end I find personally to be a headache. (id rather somebody else take pictures if I'm on a holiday and grab them later)

Social media platforms are all just means of communication for whatever tailored use. Some specifically limit the options for interaction which gets kinda fucked up I'll explain later.

Facebook: has everything a social media platform would need but these days is used to make announcements. keep in touch with distant relatives etc. It's useful for buying/selling among people or for more commercial marketing use.

Instagram: I found the whole idea of this silly when it became a thing as it's just a glorified image share website. Could be useful for shopping and fantastic for whoring yourself out and sneaking in your business with it. as it's where all the money is, with dollars and women being the currency.

Snapchat: I found this laughable when it released as it's literally designed for sexting. (my mate uses it to send pictures which is handy)

Tiktok: just kids, paedophiles and shit tier memes not even going to bother.

Discord: tailored towards gamer's but supports voice chat and has message rooms and everything you need.

Reddit: autism, but being an anonymous platform brings the beauty of the old internet where you can have discussions and learn things.

Each app has more increasingly simple UI designed for dumb thot's even a computer fluent person like me struggles to use them. Each app is increasingly invasive of privacy and designed to validate chicks by showing who looked at their story and which minute you saw their message.

Dating apps is where it gets whack and each iteration is more fucked up than the last. Unlike older dating websites where it's a free for all and you can see who the competition is, these filter who you can see out so you don't even Know who you're competition is. And have all sorts of pairing methods and algorithms along with paid subscriptions. Filtering people out and funnelling the harvest to the top, so the rich get richer and the poor stay poor.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Deleted facebook when I was 23 and started dealing drugs. That was 7 years ago.

I dont deal drugs anymore but I dont have a facebook still. Kind of hate social media.

[–]tries_to_tri2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I found 3 things:

  1. Waste of time. I'm a pretty disciplined person and I would still find myself mindlessly scrolling stupid shit. Consume consume consume. It's hard to break.

  2. Once I did delete it, I found myself living in the present a lot more. I was never thinking about other people (in a good way, not an inconsiderate way) or what they would think about what I was doing. I just did what I was doing with full focus on the task at hand.

  3. I found that my social relations with friends actually became better, because I wasn't getting that fake "socializing" feeling. So when a friend did call or I saw them I wanted to hangout and chat because it felt like it had been awhile since I saw them. I feel like social media tricks your body into thinking it's socializing when really it is not.

You recognize the dangers of social media. Good.

People ask [why you don’t have social media]. Which makes me question if those preaching to delete have any idea wtf they’re talking about.

You feel the pressure to conform, and you are now convincing yourself that giving in to the pressure is the right thing.

So I think I might just leave it up and stay off it.

You already know that they will be asking why you have an account if you're not using it. "Bro, I just posted this amazing video on insta, check it out." And then you're back in the hole.

It's like the alcoholic trying to quit, rationalizing that having a bottle in the back of the cupboard is a good idea.

[–]JurJur1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I deleted IG and all my online dating when I didint like myself or what I become. Now it’s a much more healthy relationship. I think they are good tools if used right

[–]1v1rustfaggot691 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I was the same way with instagram. I am a good looking guy who often posted pictures with very attractive girls I’d go to date parties with or cool experiences with my friends. My phone broke for 3 weeks so I went without it and realized I liked it better and realized that i felt pressured to post “cool” pics and liked life better without it. Haven’t posted in a year and just saw some girls who said they thought I got fat because I haven’t posted anything which i thought was strange. So glad I don’t feel the need for validation anymore- I genuinely just don’t care what 95% of the people I’m following do with their lives.

[–]pilot333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s funny - you fat bro?? This is why I’m tempted to sign on in 6 or 12 months and throw up a recent photo but other than that, just cut it out. I’m so proud of my new body so it’s a struggle to battle the urge to not want to show it off.

[–]DaftOdyssey3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Time waster

[–]TheReplierBRO0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I deleted my social media because it was a crutch at the time. I move cities, got in shape, am sober. I create it to buy parts for my car (Facebook) or message girls when asking for number (Snapchat). But that's about it. Just light usage now. And I'm saying snap or number pull is the same thing to me. One gets the other

[–]Terdmuffin1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I deleted mine probably around 25 (I'm 30 now). I just didn't have much use for it. I wasn't wasting a lot of time on it, I just thought it was a waste of time. I also don't have an Instagram or a Twitter (never made either). Full deletion never caused me any complications. I think that in general it causes more problems than it solves.

[–]NightTerror60 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I haven’t fully stepped off yet, but I’m really on the border of doing so. Snapchat does all the things a phone number can do, except for it’s got a bunch of drama nobody asked for (with stories especially) and a whole load of degeneracy in the public stories.

Instagram I haven’t had as many problems with, as long as I keep my following list short and relevant and don’t feel the constant urge to post it should be a good experience.

[–]serd120 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I keep my social media specifically for messaging my friends in other cities, friends I've had since childhood, and gamer buddies I can give a message to to come and hit us up in case we need another player. Other than that, I don't bother checking anything else. Asides from memes lol

[–]chumjetze1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I deleted IG and FB 3 years ago and didn't regret it one second.

  1. You have more (productive) time
  2. You are more based in reality instead of seeing all these highlight reels that resemble little of the real life but always give you the feeling of somehow missing out = more mental energy & focus
  3. You are more mysterious

[–]Number1sun0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I just post sick ass photography of mostly nature from my hikes and camping trips, not that cringy shit, and keep an image, it also let's me have an excuse to improve my photography skills because I find I can gauge the photo "cool factor" by the amount of likes I get. Not in a bad way but sometimes I'll just immediately like a photo because it is cool or wholesome, and I think I'm starting to get very good at capturing candid moments or really scenic shots.

[–]Zapche0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Son why don’t you just put a time limit on your social media apps? This way it’s ZERO non sense when your on them. I limit my use to an hour a day total. So there is no fucking around unless I have extra time at the end of the day.

[–]TheH1dd3nFear0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Facebook. Overwhelmingly intrusive, made and designed to spike anxiety and depression like drugs, and your future employers will always spy on your page.

[–]ShittySoftwar30 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I deleted it for my own privacy. I'm not interested in people being able to search up my name and find a photo of me etc. At one point people were using my account to target the mountain bike I have to try to steal it from campus

[–]when_its_too_late0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Because it was utterly pointless and wasted too much time. It's designed to be addicting. There is research on it. I got rid of everything a few years back and no regrets, I don't have to be constantly bombarded by trash. I realized how little everything there mattered and how little I actually cares. Also, meeting people IRL is a lot more fun.

I got back into Instagram so that I can talk to some old bros that I go way back with. That's about it. I don't post any content, and they usually don't either but I'll get the occasional meme and a how's life and let's meet up kinda thing.

Snapchat? I just text

Facebook? I never actually got one

What else is there? Dunno don't care, now that i no longer have my own business I don't even need social media.

I do recommended linked in for work though.

I have it locked during the day and only check it at night to see if anyone messaged me and shit. Waste of time.

Although there are tons of reasons to quit social media. These are top 3 reasons for after a lot of introspection.

  1. Attention seeking behaviour
  2. Even though we seek attention in a lot of ways in regular social interactions and some of that is okay. But social media takes the attention and validation seeking behaviour to a unhealthy levels. Traveling, eating food and having beers is good and should feel good to you but the moment you start posting things a part of why you are doing it is seeking validation and attention.

  3. Dopamine

  4. If you read the book hooked by nir eyal, you would realise that the whole social media experience is designed by experts to be able to sell you something after giving you a dopamine high. You get a dopamine rush after seeing a travel picture of a friend, or a new gadget or a hot girl. They use that attention to show you ads and you end up buying stuff that you don't want. Some or the other form of this process is true.

  5. Running away from real issues

  6. This is my personal experience but a lot of times when I was surfing social media, it was to get my mind of some real life issues. Started with going to social media intentionally to read some quotes watch some good looking travel pictures, maybe even models sometimes. Before I realised it became a second nature to me.

I find i spend so much time scrolling thru IG, facebook, twitter ect and texting ppl on snapchat, fb messenger, twitter, imessage, discord, everywhere. Its a mess, its annoying, and id rather be contacted on one platform by a person rather than 5. Then theres the lack of braincells of some individuals. People glamouring their lives up and trying to look so much better on social media bcs they are too insecure to accept they arnt unique and special in any way. Just the overall toxicity of some social media outlets too. Fake news and ppl constantly crying abt pointless bs, List goes on. Iv gotten rid of all but Discord to talk to my group of gamers and reddit to follow news and have some decent memes and iv never felt better!

My girlfriend told me her orbiter was trying to get at her and she basically stopped giving him attention and he explained that if she wasn’t going to talk to him anymore he was going to delete his profile so he did...

I never was someone who used social media a lot. Had all the apps but they were pretty empty, didn't have many pictures on Instagram so I was better off without it.

My friends are on it all the time but it makes me cringe when I'm at a social gathering and everyone's glued to their phone.

Glastonbury festival, 2016.

I was with 7 of my closest friends, high on MDMA, having the time of our lives listening to Two Door Cinema Club.

I took my phone out, opened snapchat and then thought to myself "what the fuck?!" Here i am with my true bros, the only people who i would rather be with right now, so why am I wasting time trying to look cool for others who I don't give a shit about, when really i should be skanking and bonding with my homies?

[–]DangerousEmployment40 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s boring, and ate up so much of my time

[–]frognads0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

If I get sick of it I just stop using it. I have already unfollowed anybody posting dumb shit.

[–]redhorndog0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Not under 25 but got of all except whatsapp when in High School.

I deleted FB to make it easier to ghost a chick. Then I realised it was a fucking waste of time. Nothing really changed, that was also because I wasnt really the popular chad or brad.

I mean surfing FB to keep in touch with people once a week is whatever but then you go down the rabbit hole of those games etc.

I am curious if most people deleting social media on here also had pretty small social media profiles and so deleting it never really had a huge effect on anything.

It would be interesting if people with over 2k followers found the same benefits upon deletion.

[–]redhorndog0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Hmm. I had just under 1k FB friends but that means shit. Also at my time it was less upload pics daily for validation.

Currently in quarantine some guy on group chat keeps posting his lunch/dinner pics for everyone. Nothing fancy but he thinks the more he texts some chick the if she keeps replying his chances are higher. IDGAF about social media. I look at it from another angle would you post your lunch and typical pic of hooters girl or rather fuck the girl.

But even to some AWs when I said I dont use it they try to qualify themselves saying to me saying they've been trying to get off it too and agree with me.

I totally get using it to an advantage but that sounds like an obsession.

I did professional pics in 2016 or so for work (author images) and also put them on Instagram. Surely people like them but like fabricating your social media is exhausting.

so basically you treat it like a business.

would you mind sharing a bit more? Ive been thinking about doing this.

maybe start a personal trainer account and do this

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Are you a girl?lol

[–]SoA_MC2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Why would you ask him that? If he’s actually making money off instagram that’s good. No shame in capitalizing on something

[–]SoA_MC0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Seriously? Please tell me some more because I have always been of the opinion that guys who delete social media is because they don’t have enough reason to be on it, not enough friends, not enough likes from hot girls etc. My FB has no activity, it’s a 10 yr old profile pic, with like 6 likes. I don’t look mysterious I look like a nobody lol.

Now I don’t care about that itself, I’ve had no troubles with girls in reality, and I have my personal friend group, I am genuinely more private and even if I was the most popular guy ever my social media activity would be low, but I think it could be a great tool if used in a way that provides some proof like you said.

[–]PinacoladaSauce0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I personally have most of the popular forms (Facebook, snapchat, instagram) but don’t really use them. Facebook is good for groups, IG is good for social proof and snapchat is just easy. but i don’t really use them for stories or liking or anything. every once in a while i’ll post something usually either for business or to show off a girl.

i have my own little rules, i don’t post a plate unless she weve actually talked and she knows she’s just a plate. i don’t do the whole thirst trap thing with posts and likes. if i send an opening message to a girl and she doesn’t respond i unfollow her. stuff like that.

i just checked my screen time because of this post actually, i have a combined 12 minutes on the big 3 social media apps today and i’m going to bed in an hour. I’ll probably add another minute or two checking a Facebook group i’m a part of before i actually fall asleep.

i think there’s reasons for having them. find what works for you and do that. listen to what everyone else says but be willing to adapt to you specifically

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
