Lifting (self.asktrp)

submitted by Themane22

What’s up fellas. Been lifting and dieting right for about a year. Needless to say thank you guys for drilling this into me. On days I feel lazy. It’s crazy what lifting and eating right can do for you. More confidence, more women better self esteem. I almost feed bad/narcissistic for people who don’t lift and I hate that I do. I used to be that guy that ate like shit and was takin as a joke and now people in the gym are mirin. I believe lifting is one of the best things a man can do so thank you guys.

Can you guys list some of your personal reasons why you lift and the improvements you see In your interactions with others when they can tell you lift and eat right and groom correctly? Thanks bros. Lift on

Lifting heavy shit definitely helps the ego. You can be a pussy and not do shit or you can work your ass off, getting stronger and bigger than most men. Test levels rise, confidence rises, and eventually you walk around knowing you’re the alpha. And everyone else doesn’t come close to comparing. It’s all a mindset. Thoughts become realities.

[–]Themane22[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

For sure man. It’s crazy when your the biggest most fit dude people respect it it’s almost natural. You have these people that are lean and run a lot but when u walk around chest out like you throw weights around for a living and have strong walk people know ur the boss. It’s crazy

[–]GardenofBeden42 points43 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

I started lifting after I noticed the dent in the couch from me binge watching Netflix. Then I became super self aware of my size and haven’t missed more than a week since seven years ago.

Girls give me IOI’s because of my style mainly but I know it’s really because my clothes fit me well... because I lift. On the flip side before I was up 40 pounds guys were a lot bolder with me. Now they usually try to bro out before things get physical.

Above all I’d recommending lifting to become the person you imagine yourself to be. My frail body didn’t match my ego so I had to lift until it came close.

[–]when_in_rhone2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I would contest that your frail body was your ego, and that by lifting you were able to shed down to who you actually are, which is not your ego.

Ego is a defense mechanism, it isn’t authentic.

Usage was off, I think you might be right. Thanks for the correction.

What's some program to do in the gym? Like the stronglift 5x5

[–]GardenofBeden0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly I think getting above average in body weight movements then moving on to weight training is solid method... probably because I did it.. but I’d checkout the 5x5 program. You’ll gain size/strength quickly.

[–]TheFratStar13 points14 points  (11 children) | Copy Link

I was always relatively strong for my size, but people always made fun of me for being skinny and I wasn't blessed with height either. I just decided at like 11 years old if I can't grow taller I'm just going to grow wider. My family even laughed at me when I said I was going to get jacked, so I went out and I did it. Now I just enjoy lifting, being immensely strong it just feels good to lift man. People take notice.

Being short with my size makes shopping rather difficult though so my clothing style if very simple but it just works and everything I own fits extremely well. People tend to give me respect immediately because they can tell I dedicate myself and have discipline. Specifically with women being jacked helps but it isn't a be all end all I have been rejected before for being "too fit...." Oh well lol, but keep it up your body is your temple take care of it as best you can.

[–]Themane22[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Good shit man. Keep making those gains and stay jacked brother. I feel u on the too fit. Some women are scared of a super fit guy cuz they know he has options. Keep lifting and keep striving.

[–]MadChestHairYuKnight1 point2 points  (7 children) | Copy Link

How tall are you, bro? Ever been insecure about it?

[–]TheFratStar1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm 5' 4" 165lb at like 10% BF. I'm on the short side of my family most of my male cousins are like 6" and the women are 5' 8."

As far as insecurity I have been insecure about it and still harbor some insecurity today. A lot of women like the pull the whole "when his height starts with a 5' " type bullshit. Those people aren't worth the energy, but it hasn't played as big factor when I'm face to face with people as I got older.

Once you learn social dynamics and interaction it's not a big of a deal as people make it seem. Women realize that I have far more value based on style, upkeep, etc,. I'm also at a level of size and strength that men in general would have a hard time talking shit or stirring up trouble in the first place.

[–]MadChestHairYuKnight0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the reply, bro.

I am a bit insecure myself at 5'8" so I appreciate your reply and I hope to have your confidence one day.

Time to work hard on myself and improve myself in every single way.

Can you share which state you're from?

[–]TheFratStar1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm originally from NY.

The confidence will come you just have to keep up the work. The spoils of your work will so in time. Just keep in mind journey is about yourself (with the side benefit of other people noticing).

[–]MadChestHairYuKnight1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you. I'm from the Toronto area. It's only been two weeks I've been back in the gym, after a bad injury! Future looks awesome.

[–]Themane22[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Me? I’m 6 ft wbu

[–]Themane22[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Not really insecure about it no cuz I try to make up for it in other areas. Lift style etc. a lot of dudes dress like shit. Style helps

[–]MadChestHairYuKnight1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I was asking about /u/thefratstar, but thanks.

[–]ValorElite0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

When do you lift? I've been looking at the schedule for the next few months and I realize that the only time for me to lift is in the early morning. (Work from 8-5, gym is way too packed from 5-9, and I need to be asleep by 11pm or so.)

What is your experience with waking up and lifting in the early morning?

[–]TheFratStar0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I lift around 8PM. I try to get to work at 7AM so I don't like to go super early, and at my gym most of the stronger powerlifting folks all come in to lift pretty late. I lift earlier on weekends though.

Lifting in the morning has always been hard for me. If I lift early it is definitely about getting good sleep in. Once you get to the gym and get going you'll feel the energy and after the workout I actually feel pretty refreshed and ready to go for the rest of the day. I don't take pre-workout or any kind of supp other than fish oil.

Nutrition is also very important I don't like to lift fasted I usually get a good meal in typically oatmeal with peanut butter and any kind of fruit that's high in fiber I use low sugar craisins. That holds me over for a while in terms of early morning fuel.

The young guys don't have enough context to realize this but the west is in a cultural economic downward slide. Lifting is a way to prevent that slide from entering you.

[–]crashgang6 points7 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I’m a young guy myself, 17 years old, and I’m interested in what you mean by this. Is it the increased sexual freedom and reverse of traditional gender roles that is causing our decline? What other reasons are there if this is/isn’t true? Thanks.

[–]Endorsed Contributor: "The Court Jester"GayLubeOil3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Buy the book the Authoritarian Personality, it's basically a Bible for the Neoliberal left.

In it Theodor Adorno says that sexual repression makes Nazis.

So if you want to rid the world of Nazis you gotta sexualize children as early as possible.

But honestly biy the book yourself don't rely on second hand info.

[–]Chaddeus_Rex1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Lifting is a call to Power and defiance against consumerist globohomo anti-culture. To lift is to be mighty and a victory of Tradition. It leads a man to become an aristocrat of the soul and reject the weakness of the untermensch

[–]ValorElite0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

The poster above you has been off this knocker for a while now. His posts are showing more and more signs of schizophrenic behavior and erratic posts i.e. West is about to die, men are being eradicated etc. Take a stroll through his recent comments if you do not agree with me.

Here is what I think: We all have the power to choose what we want to do - it is a founding right that has been granted us. There is no doubt that there are mentally ill people and they have significant influence and control over our culture. Go on snapchat and facebook to see the most retarded shit being pushed onto us. But do not let social media fool you: There are millions of folks like you and me. College aged men just trying to find their ways in the world. Guys who do not believe in this shit and think it is bat shit insane.

There is no conspiracy. Do not let the loonies enter your mind and let yourself do the thinking. Do not invite mental illness into your head. Hopefully I gave you some perspective on your questions

First, I'd like to say that everyday is leg day since I can't bench over 155. Second, my posture is crazy now and girls comment all the time about it. Third, my friend wanted to say I couldn't squat her ass and I did. Now, she gives me that mad respect. When I whip out the quads, I leave girls in wads(of wetness).

[–]Themane22[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Leg day is where the true gains are at You get that bounce in your step and stronger walk. Don’t under estimate the hamstring either

[–]Oussama98 1 points [recovered]  (4 children) | Copy Link

Some tips for leg day? Same problem here lol

[–]realityisperception49 points10 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Hit legs every workout. Alternating hamstrings and quads. It sounds like a lot but you’ll naturally adapt to the workload after a week or two. New research is leaning more to frequency especially for natural lifters.

I lift 5-6 days a week and my gains in the past 3 months have been ridiculous. More ripped and harder than I’ve ever been before.

As for leg workouts, I do a mass exercise followed by an isolation movement with lots of stretching and flexing in between sets. For example Squats+Leg Extensions(8 sets/Quads) and then Stiff Leg Deadlifts/Lying Hamstring Curls(8 sets/hamstrings). You can of course mix different exercises in there to get the most gains. Leg Press, hack squats, lunges, glute bridges, ect. Also, hit them calves everyday, I got sucky genetics for calves but I’ve practically overcame it by constantly overloading them and forcing the muscle to adapt. Alternating a heavy day and then a high rep/pump day.

[–]ValorElite0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow - you must be eating a shit ton + proper rest. It was a challenge for me to get proper rest and nutrition when I was lifting that much over the summer.

I want to work out that much, but I feel like my current lifestyle prevents me from doing so. Working, going to college full time, and having a hand in a few extracurriculars is taking up a large amount of time and energy. I have to be extremely disciplined to eat well, train hard, and sleep enough to realize gains while doing my current workload. It doesn't that help that I am going into a profession that demands you to work a ton and put off sleep most nights.

Then again, I am being kind of a bitch. I stopped lifting heavy and this school year I stopped going to the gym at all. Your post made me kick myself in the ass and to get to the gym. I want to switch things up a bit, get enough sleep/rest and start the grind up again.

Cheers mate!

[–]Themane22[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Front squats for quads. Straight leg deadlift for hamstrings.

[–]koedeloe3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

My cousin got me into lifting since I was 16. I was this muscular 17 year old and I could pull girls left and right. Then when I was 19 I had broken my hand and could not work out for months. I had lost most of my muscles and suddenly it was way harder to pull girls. I started working out again in January, so 10 months into it now. I look muscled again and pulling girls is easily now. Not that I lift for girls but it works.

Started out of spite. Lot of anger after divorce. Transition into doing right by my son. Want to be able to protect him and myself if someone came at us. Now I just enjoy it. I did notice that it's a bit of a ego thing about being better than you were yesterday.

Word of warning be careful not to push too hard. Recently did that. Had to drop down my weights and take it easy noticed that I was getting depressed and eating out more often.

[–]Themane22[S] 2 points3 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

Keep that diet clean brother. It’s worse it

[–]moltenw1 point2 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

What does your clean diet consist of?

[–]Themane22[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

Meat rice veggies fruit eggs. All day everyday

[–]moltenw2 points3 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

what meat, what veggies and what fruit?

[–]Oussama981 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Pussy - ass - tits

[–]Joshd_473 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I feel like my tense body gets more tense after lifting. Like arms and traps/neck

[–]Novak90 1 points [recovered]  (1 child) | Copy Link

Mostly a lurker but I guess I'll share a bit of my life with y'all bonobos.

Be me, 22 and just graduated college. Was a typical East Asian, socially awkward, skinny-fat virgin that never got a second glance. "You're really nice." Found TRP and started lifting. I'll never forget that 1st day in the gym, lads. I could only squat 10lb on each side and bench just the bar. 5x5's. The day after, I was so sore and couldn't walk or sit properly. From 65lb's... Lmao.

I stuck with it because I wanted change in my life. Something... Anthing... And honestly, even over seduction/TRP/whatever, it was the best decision of my life. About a year and a half later, finally got laid. At 23... Yea, long time coming but I had a lot to work on and I truly understood that then.

I'm turning 28 next month. Stopped counting but probably around 40 notches. Besides travelling, I've never missed a workout for a BS reason. Whenever I see a skinny-fat asian guy, I'm sad. I'm reminded of all the years of potential I threw away. That they are throwing away. Fuck it. Just fuel for the fire, baby.

[–]Themane22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Hey thanks for replying man. That’s what’s up homie. Good shit. I’m forever grateful for TRP too. It changed my life. Keep gettin gains and keep smashing thotties

[–]T-P-T-W-P1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

What is so great about lifting and getting jacked is it acts as a base to build from no matter what’s going on in your life. “Oh that dudes poor right? Yeah but he’s also yoked.” “That dudes rich as fuck and he’s also shredded lol.” There aren’t many things in the world that are almost entirely beneficial and lifting is likely one of those things. The only thing you have to give is a little time and effort.

[–]Themane22[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

Question though fellas. Obviously having more muscle test rises etc and you have more alpha mindset. But say you have some jacked alpha gym bro and a boxer in the same room? Who’s the alpha and what’s the value correlation between the two? Who’s the bad bitty choosing then. Fighting ability vs gym strength? Who’s more alpha

[–]BKLager9 points10 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree w your post but this comment is irrelevant. Comparing or measuring “alpha” is the wrong way to think about it. It’s a mindset not a definable quantity

[–]bombgg5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

That's not a reasonable comparison. Also, the average boxer will always kick the shit out of the gym rat, no matter how big he is.

[–]philltered2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

The one who has internalized the concept of frame and game.

One can be a beta and still lift and dress well. Nothing changes until you move beyond those IOIs from people and actually start benefiting from them.

On a related note, fitness is quite multi-dimensional. Strength is just one aspect of the eight others.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Lifting is just one thing, and the most ostensible at that. I find a balanced workout and Martial Arts training a lot more substantial and useful in life, as it also helps you being more flexible and faster on your feet.

A good workout in Muay Thai also keeps your fat disappearimg for good. Ofc, you won't look as buff as a gym pump but confidence rises even more when you realize what a punch you can throw.

This is when the true Alpha spirit shines, amd you feel like you could wrestle 3 lions at once.

[–]RobertCarraway4 points5 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Lifting is just one thing, and the most ostensible at that.

I do not think that word means what you think it means

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

yeah, I'm not English I meant like apparent or obvious

[–]neverquitman0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Lifting has many benefits, apart from clearing your head, and making you focus on the little things, "that last set, that rep". Lifting can also be applied to different areas of life, for example. You want to lift a girl, lift your grandmother, your mother, grip your little brother so he doesn't run away, gripping your monster dog, you name it. All of this pull-ups, deadlifts and other WL stuff help you successfully manage it.

But theres literally more benefits of lifting than what I listed. But when you do this shit, you'll thank lifting.

[–]Velebit-1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I used to lift. Don't any more. Have serious chronic health problems that prevent me. Sucks to be me.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
