It’s sad, but true...

If it is made on social media without any police involvement, I will bet the farm that it is false. If they go to the police, then I am willing to give them the 50/50 coin flip of doubt. Basically, real victims don't want their story plastered on the front page of Rolling Stone Magazine.

But even worse than a woman crying wolf is other women demanding that their be no consequences for crying wolf.

Only around 5%-10% of complaints to the police result in a conviction, many of which are on nothing more than he said she said evidence (and sometimes even on less than that, like in Ched Evans' cases). And that isn't even counting the wrongful convictions, like Brian Banks that aren't removed from the conviction statistics. The real number of false accusations is far, far higher than the number of truthful reports made but because the nature of the number is grey it is impossible to determine exactly.

Which is why I call it a coin flip. Anti-rape activists have attempted to subvert this by saying no evidence is needed, we should just #believewomen. Which is madness. Everybody gets due process or nobody gets due process.

This

It had the opposite effect because I see men everywhere giving so much less of a fuck.... even the ones that really did before. Women accidentally set their gender back 50 years and they haven't even realised it yet

Well, they are.

I assume they're lying, and I'm a woman.

[–]jack938851 point2 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

I mean, I'll just carry on assuming neither until I have enough information to make my mind up

[–]DevilishRogue2 points3 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I'll do the opposite and just carry on believing innocent until proven guilty.

Isn't believing innocence (in lack of proof beyond reasonable doubt) mean the other person is automatically guilty of lying?

"Innocent until proven guilty" us an saying I can throw my weight behind 100% but in the sense that I will treat everyone the same until they have been proven to be guilty. And if someone goes to court and is found to be not guilty, I won't assume the means the other person is lying because that would mean the other person is guilty of lying in court. That'd be a whole new case of innocent until proven guilty

Could be confused. Or wrong about the meaning of the crime they're claiming. Or misled.

Lying to police, perjury?
