Today I maxed out my sociability. I had a business breakfast with two female clients. I had a business lunch with two female colleagues, a female client and two male clients. I then chaired a 12-step recovery meeting of about 50 people. Then I went to dinner with a male friend and flirted with three waitresses at our normal Friday night haunt.
For an introvert that is a lot.
Whenever I’ve taken the Myers Briggs personality test at work I’ve always come out as ENTJ. I believe that to be inaccurate. The truth is I’ve always manipulated my responses to make myself appear more extrovert than I really am. Because I work in sales it feels like that’s what my employers would want.
Really I am an introvert—if you accept the definition of introversion as a state where one draws more energy from being alone than being with others.
I enjoy company, but in general I prefer my socialising to be strictly contained. I always want an escape route. I don’t like to get stuck in any situation where I’m out with people for a long time and I can’t get away. I have to be able to pull the plug at any time and retreat into my own solitude.
Strangely, I managed to get very good at game in spite of this tendency. Perhaps my introversion enabled my analytical nature. Perhaps being analytical helped me to troubleshoot and score more girls. Whatever the case, the important thing to note is that introversion in itself does not stop you meeting girls and it shouldn’t be used as an excuse.
If you need time alone them by all means take it. But don’t make the mistake, as some guys do, of using your nature as a get-out clause. We are not constrained by our personalities: no matter what baseline you start from you can be successful if you are persistent and determined.
