I'm curious to know what other RP'ers are doing to protect their assets. I recently starting maxing out my 401k/HSA and a Roth for 2016. My leftover cash is going into a normal taxable brokerage account. I'm interested in the whole financial independence thing so taking control of my finances has been satisfying.

I'm in an LTR and don't plan on moving in at all. She knows it, I know it, if she pushes we're done. She knows this. I got a vasectomy 5mo ago also so no kids either. I do have sperm saved up though (not sure if that can be faught for during a court battle and then you pay child support).

So my question, it's unlikely I'll ever be in that position but let's say hypothetically I was cohabitating and common law can be in effect (depending how good her lawyer is), are there any ways of putting assets(house, motorbike, etc) and accounts (401k/brokearge/Roth) in a trust of some sorts wherein it can't be touched at all in any court proceeding like "divorce" after they sue for common law or in worse case, actual divorce if you're married?

I realize the answer could be complicated based on the state/province you live in but any ballpark guidance would be appreciated.
