I've had experiences of being in vicious cycles, losing streaks, and so forth, but have managed to pull myself out of them.

I have two associates who could take a few simple steps and enjoy career success . . . but instead, they seem to be afraid of making the changes necessary.

I just don't understand why. I've offered to help them, and they just refuse to take me up on it. Maybe they want to "do it themselves," but my help primarily consists of advice and encouragement.

Anyone have any theories?

I'm getting to the point where I absolutely will not do anything for the underdog.
