Day 9 - Begin your diet

We've started working out. Now it's time to research and start your diet.

You know you have too many pounds. It might be 5, or it might be 50.

Strength training isn't going to fix it. And here's a secret nobody will tell you: Cardio on its own won't fix it either.

This won't just be a fad. It's time for a lifestyle change.

Last week we were abstaining from alcohol. (Right? RIGHT?)

This week we focus on a new lifestyle.

I can personally attest that the /r/keto diet is a good long term diet that has allowed me to lose weight and keep it off. A lot of people recommend paleo.

There's been talk about whether you can muscle build on keto. I think the research shows that you can.

Today: Decide and begin your diet. Report back.

You are a man. Eat what men eat. Stop eating prepackaged shit. Stop drinking unhealthy sickening sweet junk!

What should I eat for breakfast? Oatmeal/Eggs/Pancakes/Toast

What should I eat for lunch? Leftovers!/Sandwich/Fruit/Pretzels/Celery/Carrots

What should I eat for dinner? Just answer one simple question...Would someone 100 years ago have eaten this? If yes, consume!

What should I eat for snacks!? Nuts/ Raisins/Grapes/Apples/Peanut Butter/

What should I drink? WATER!/Beer/Scotch/Coffee/Tea

Actually, I don't have too many pounds. I taught myself as a teen to avoid sugar. Haven't ever been fat since as a result. However, I am currently trying to get back to my former [very] muscular body type, which I lost when I contracted a serious illness that set me on a 3 year downturn. Those muscles got me laid, ha. Thankfully, consistent lifting ALWAYS works.

My advice to anyone looking to drop weight: Avoid sugar and stop drinking your calories. Carbohydrates will never leave you feeling full, and you'll always eat too many of them. Protein and fats yield satiety.

Avoid sugar and stop drinking your calories.

You can do this on keto by switching from beer to whiskey.

I'm not much a fan of drinking alcohol, but it's fun to brew and distill! Anyone looking to improve their health and fitness should probably take several months off the bottle, though. Beyond the caloric considerations, alcohol has other detrimental effects on the body. It's one of the harder drugs available ;)

Yeah, weight loss really is about what you eat and how much you eat. Nice job, man!

Keto is awesome. I lost quite a bit on it. Still on it, but I think I take in a bit more carbs than I should. Precise controlling from tomorrow.

I can personally attest that, not only is keto a great diet (especially to zap off 10-20lbs quick) but you can, in fact, build huge muscle mass on keto. Since you aren't sacrificing (and often actually increasing) protein intake, you can actually gain mass more quickly. When I was doing school sports (wrestling), I was able to lose 30lbs of fat and gain 15lbs of muscle in less than 2 months.

Luckily, I don't need to lose weight, in fact I have the opposite problem, I can't put it on! I was considering giving this a try: http://artofmanliness.com/2013/01/18/how-to-increase-testosterone-naturally/

Anyone have any thoughts?

Edit: Just discovered this sub, catching up on the other posts

Same here, I'm skinny as fuck.

Start counting your daily calories, you'll be surprised at how little you actually eat, even when you think you eat a lot.

Now try to eat at least 3000 calories a day, if you keep up with the gym you'll never get fat, but you won't be skinny anymore.

Eat, eat, eat.

Whole Milk: 150 calories per cup

Dark chocolate (70% min): 280 calories per 47g (according to current bar I have)

This one is a BIG challenge for me, because I need to pretty much start from scratch. I'm used to eating 1.5 meals a day, 90% of the time eating out.

My goals is to cut out fast food, cold turkey, all this week.
