The Reddit Admin Operate in Bad Faith, They Lurk in the Shadows to Generate Post-Hoc Rationalizations for Ideological Censorship. A Proof and Challenge to Reddit Admin

There isn't much I can say that most of you don't already know. We've been hard at work on a replacement infrastructure because the writing has been on the wall for many years. TRP and TRP-adjacent subreddits will not have a home for long on Reddit. https://TRP.red and https://Forums.red

Reddit's administrators are by far the most incompetent people I have ever witnessed. Their proclivity for censoring topics with which they disagree has been just one of many nails in the coffin that is Reddit.

Those familiar with chess know that counter-intuitive moves are not always for the purpose they appear. Sometimes a pawn is sacrificed for a greater, long-term gain or position. It would be naive to suggest that there wasn't method to some of their madness as they set about destroying community after community in a desperate effort to appease the ever-fickle advertising dollar. To suggest otherwise would unfairly discredit them when there are plenty of valid reasons to suspect their idiocy.

My critique of Reddit is far deeper than a superficial claim that they're just booger-eaters and hate free speech. I think if we treat the subject honestly, we can find a much deeper ideological problem: one that transcends the Silicon Valley giants and their ilk.

Deleting communities, issuing shadow bans, consolidating powers, and censoring topics are prima facie damaging to the community at large. There is little argument that these destructive policies, at the very least, damage the relationship with the members of the affected communities. But it’s not a stretch to suggest there is collateral damage, damaging the faith of all bystanders whose belief in Reddit's dedication to free-speech is already in short supply.

Surely, then, Reddit’s rationale for such actions is that they only cause minor, short-term damage in exchange for greater long-term gains. However, if this were true, one might think a company as dependent on the community as Reddit would treat major censorship events with a touch of nuance and at least an air of transparency and good faith?

On the contrary, in repeated events, this is not what has occurred. There are multiple failures of the Reddit administration I wish to highlight. I think the greatest of all, we will demonstrate, is their hubris in believing they've kept their true motivations somehow clandestine as they hobble together post-hoc rationalizations, inconsistent excuses, and poorly-conceived policy statements which now adorn the gravestone pages of the very communities that made Reddit successful in the first place.

Communication with Community Leaders

If you run your own moderately large forum on Reddit’s platform, you are likely no stranger to Reddit’s one-way communication style with community leaders. They like to submit drive-by messages to the moderation teams, often with a cryptic or misleading rebuke for the latest rule violation that the subreddit is responsible for. Often, this rule is not clearly understood or defined. This is by design.

The very notion that moderators are responsible for the actions of what community members post is asinine. Given the lack of tools afforded to moderators, it is impossible to know if members posting offending content are even members of the community at all, or if they are outsiders, posting content in an effort to defame a forum. Moderators are not given the ability to see membership status, identifiers that might link them to other sockpuppet accounts, or any signifiers of standing within a community.

Removing offending content is the only tool at a moderator’s disposal. It’s a hammer when all we have are screws. Until the moment a comment is removed, it remains for all to see.

Despite ample man-power and free time, it is virtually impossible to remove all offending posts. There can be hundreds of thousands of comments to sort through, we cannot always see every comment if they are not flagged by the community. But more deviously, the rules are not clearly defined, so even if we see the offending comment, rule-breaking material is subjective and we may not actually believe it to be rule-breaking.

An example of this comes from early in TRP’s days on Reddit, when “brigading” was the big bad no-no of the season. Communities posting cross-links from other communities were accused of brigading when the users following the links would participate in the conversation and voting in the target community. This was considered rule-breaking behavior and put a subreddit in jeopardy.

The problem is that Reddit, by design, is a collection of numerous communities on one site with a shared login. It is designed in such a way that visiting multiple communities and participating isn’t just a byproduct of the way the home page is laid out, it’s the main feature of the multi-topic website.

If users decide a topic interests them and they join in voting / discussion, this is encouraged as this is the basic design of Reddit.

This is where the impossible rules of Reddit began. Community leaders were expected to prevent users from participating across communities on a website designed for participating across communities with absolutely NO tools to do so. We were unable to prevent outsiders from participating because on Reddit, no user is an outsider. You can join and participate on any forum you wanted!

Moderators got together and voluntarily created and implemented a CSS hack to prevent users from participating if the link followed was a “No Participation” link (np.reddit.com). This was easily circumvented as the CSS design was optional and could be turned off, and it required other subreddits to comply by requiring their users to add the “np” prefix to all crosslinks. Incredible amounts of effort on everybody’s part because Reddit admin were wholly unable to implement any sort of feature to assist. And rightfully so, given that they had spent their entire development efforts in designing a website to do exactly the opposite!

Despite these voluntary measures, subreddits began being shuttered by Reddit admin because of “brigading,” despite there being no official rule against it, no tools to prevent it, and the persistence of free-will among the users. Mod teams were being held responsible for the actions of some users, and it was impossible to know if the users themselves were acting in bad faith as an attempt to shutter subreddits!

We contacted Reddit’s admin team for clarification on what constituted brigading, what actions we could or should be expected to take, and what would put us in good standing to prevent being shuttered.

A one sentence reply was given to our team “just follow the rules.”

At this point, it was quite clear that the Reddit admin had disdain for its communities and users. They did not want compliance, they wanted a rationalization for removal. Brigading was an excuse, not a reason. The only thing we could do was literally ban the word “Reddit” and the subreddit linking phrase, to prevent ALL Reddit links from appearing. This was the only way to prevent being shuttered by the admin for their ridiculous and unevenly applied rules.

The conflicting rules and poor communication plagues Reddit to this day, with more impossible standards and poorly defined rules being used against communities, even months after their last post (-r-the_donald).

The hallmark of the Reddit admin is that they contact a community after they’ve decided your users broke the rules too much, to inform you that they will be taking action to either replace the mod team (with ideological replacements) or completely shutter the community (and all similar communities that may pop up).

These excuses include comments that may have slipped through moderation. Reddit admin will comb through years of old posts to find offending comments that may only have 1 or 2 upvotes (or heck, even downvotes). They’ll use these missed items as evidence that the community as a whole is rule breaking and cannot be trusted on the platform. We’ve seen it in action time and time again. Comments or posts that don’t even reflect the attitude or demeanor of the subreddit, clearly made by outsiders (perhaps plants by Reddit themselves), and there goes the community.

For example: Reddit claims the_donald was removed for anti-cop sentiments. There are numerous examples of death threats against cops all across reddit today, including subreddits dedicated to it (r-Bad_Cop_No_Donut)

Reddit’s justification for shuttering, censoring, or quarantining subreddits is usually marred with logical inconsistencies and poorly conceived constructions on loose gravel. As they apply their rules like a spoiled child with a magnifying glass rules over his kingdom of ants, the rest of the community takes note.

Enough people notice these inconsistencies and understand, these aren’t rules, these aren’t rule breakers. These are ideologues giving half-justifications for their activism.

They tend to fall back on the same old crutches that Silicon Valley has been using for the past decade. It’s for advertising revenue. We want to be attractive to advertisers.

This is demonstrably false- as less than a year after TRP was “quarantined” we saw ads re-appear just as they were before. Advertisers, as it turns out, are not actually afraid of controversy. They just pretend to be in public to avoid backlash for terrible things.

See, Facebook itself is home to many awful things. Terrorists organize, insane people live broadcast torturing a Trump supporter, fake news is everywhere, and groups dedicated to every cause, controversial or not, all call FB a home.

Advertisers know they want to be where the eyeballs are. If NIKE advertises on FB it’s not because of the flat earth society. Likewise, when a brand gets on the home page of Reddit, it’s not an explicit endorsement of the gonewild community in which internet stars put sharpies in their butts. The latest Trolls movie is not explicitly endorsing a subreddit dedicated to cartoon girls with dicks. But such a sub does exist.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that it’s not about controversial content- as there’s plenty of that on Reddit that doesn’t jive with Disney yet they still advertise there. It’s about ideological disagreement.

And Reddit is well aware, there’s no such thing as bad press. Every minor controversy that hits the news gets more exposure. There’s this awful subreddit dedicated to shocking stuff- it’s so bad! Don’t go there and look!

They come for the controversy, stay for the kitten pictures.

If Reddit’s goal was to maximize viewership, courting controversy but keeping an arm’s length from the content itself would be a recipe to become the #1 website in the world in no time.

Standing for free speech, Reddit could easily make the broad comment that they do not censor legal free speech, and that it’s a shame that such content exists, and “check out our puppies subreddit.”

Free-fucking-advertising.

Reddit’s actions betray them. Every time they take action, it is clear that they don’t believe the very words they say.

When Reddit quarantined TRP, they put a message on our page saying “This community is quarantined: It is dedicated to shocking or highly offensive content. For information on positive masculinity, please see the resources available at Stony Brook University’s Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities.” They included a link to Stony Brook.

They explicitly endorsed Stony Brook’s Masculinities whose executive director was Michael Kimmel at the time. One of Michael Kimmel’s crowning achievements attempting to debunk that men can be victims of domestic violence. He goes on to suggest that some evidence is simply false, that female-on-male violence is just different, and that it is men who lose control, women are provoked. From an interview with Cassie Jaye:

It is not true, […] that there's gender symmetry in domestic violence. That women hit men as much as men hit women.

An except from my rebuttal to Reddit’s Admin:

There is overwhelming proof that men are victims of domestic violence at least as much as women, if not more. Controlling for all violence, men surpass women as victims entirely, making the distinction of “domestic” misleading when men are by all means the target of the majority all violence and the victims of almost all murders No biggie, Michael Kimmel, it’s an easy oversight to make WHEN YOU HATE MEN.

Reddit tells us that Stony Brook should give us insight into positive masculinity, but Stony’s front page only has one reference to positive masculinity in the fight against domestic violence. And that’s for men to join as allies in preventing violence against women. That’s right men, FUCK YOU THAT YOU MAKE UP 78% OF MURDER VICTIMS, FUCK YOU THAT YOU MADE UP 59% OF VIOLENT CRIME VICTIMS, FUCK YOU THAT 93% OF WORKPLACE DEATHS ARE MEN Yes, that’s right. /u/spez thinks that little of you that he wants your masculinity to be defined not by fighting these truths, but by sacrificing yourself to prevent violence against women.

Needless to say, this was not a shining moment for Reddit’s ideological team. They made-up excuse they used as part of their censorship campaign was so poorly researched that it was obvious at first glace what Reddit was up to.

About a week later, Michael Kimmel was accused of sexual harrassment and stepped down from board of gender equality campaign group. Stony Brook themselves have distanced themselves and removed the group’s page from their site.

Despite our team asking privately and publicly for comment from Reddit’s team, their tacit endorsement of male abuse went unaddressed. We also asked repeatedly for comment on what the offending material on our subreddit was, but they never replied. They never gave us the tools to resolve the issues, they never told us what rule was broken or what we could do to fix it.

Instead, they saw the stunning public indictment of Kimmel, and quietly removed reference to Stony Brook from our quarantine message. They fucked up, and they realized it.

Reddit’s censorship was ideological in nature, not a fair and balanced application of rules, we see this misapplication of justice across many different subreddits and communities.

Reddit’s userbase is waking up to it. They notice the problems and inconsistencies. They notice the stark lack of transparency of the admin. They notice how poorly conceived the excuses are. It’s impossible to ignore.

Reddit can’t help but sound duplicitous in their rare communications on the announcements sub. Each announcement is followed by hundreds of comments asking why the inconsistencies in their policy exist. Most recently, reddit made another announcement, enabling hatespeech as long as it was against whites. We have to assume this was created by a child with no understanding of the world around him:

While the rule on hate protects such groups, it does not protect all groups or all forms of identity. For example, the rule does not protect groups of people who are in the majority or who promote such attacks of hate. –Now Edited Source

This language was quickly changed but is documented here.

Between the obvious excuses made to justify ideological censorship, the impossible rules for communities, the inconsistent application of said rules, and the lack of communication from Reddit’s admin, it is very, very clear that this is not ineptitude. This is bad faith by definition. This is an example of a group that absolutely hates their users and wishes they would leave.

Reddit is dying, and Reddit’s admin are killing it to serve an ideological master that is antithetical to free speech and incompatible with success.

My public challenge to prove I’m 100% right:

Reddit, you have an opportunity to publicly prove me wrong. First, apologize to our members for denying male victims. Second, publicly state exactly the terms of conditions we broke, with examples of offending material, and outline exactly what changes would need to be made to remove the quarantine.

Then, follow through and stay true to your word.

You have an opportunity to show good faith. Silence will mean I’m right.

Bold of you to assume that Reddit gives even a solitary shit about consistency, transparency, or even truth.

In fact, I assume the opposite.

spez or whoever explicitly said they want murky rules because they don't want people to walk to the line and not cross it. they want to have the liberty, by design, to do whatever they feel

Reddit turned to shit after Aaron Swartz was murdered.

[–]Redpiller773 points4 points  (2 children) | Copy

That was a nice redpill. Didn't know about him. Do we know why he has downloading the archives from MIT or was it a setup?

[–]0io-3 points4 points  (1 child) | Copy

As I remember it he was a part-time student and student accounts legally have access to free downloads of scientific and technical material using MIT's account. So he decided to download all of it and re-post it so that it would be freely available to the public and not just students. (Not a crime!) Anyway, the Obama administration decided to charge him with ridiculous crimes (domestic terrorism or something, I forgot the exact details) claiming that he was abusing his account and he was facing something like 175 years in prison for stealing state secrets even though this was just the publicly available free stuff he had access to with his student account, all because the companies that want to charge you $35 dollars to download an technical article that's already available for free had more clout with the Obama admin than our guy Aaron. He was facing several lifetimes in prison and they wouldn't drop it or settle even though there wasn't any actual crime, just kept charging and maliciously prosecuting and waiting for him to run out of lawyers and money. Very sleazy stuff. Basically he was the real-life version of Will Smith in Enemy of the State.

Yeah, it's just sad to see a Red Piller, the founder actually argue for justice and what's right.

They not only don't care, they would consider our disapearence as the greater good, a moraly just outcome preventing wamen and boys from being exposed to wrong-think.

This is not the internet of 2006. Facebook just pushed a change in their publishing rules that justifies removal of any post that poses a threat to Facebook's interests.

Google, Refind, Feedly, Yahoo news are purposefully promoting and featuring pure democrat puff pieces and crazy conservatard strawmen articles - to shape the zeitgeist.

We are not wanted, corporate has spoken, they de facto own the internet and don't need us.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

Yeah, it's just sad to see a Red Piller, the founder actually argue for justice and what's right.

If you pay close attention, this is not a plea for mercy or justice.

[–]arakouzo29 points30 points  (2 children) | Copy

It's way simpler than all of this.

The internet is unlimitedly large. You can start your own anything you want, but if it's not one of the main, best-known, most used websites, you've got very little traction. There have been many Reddit alternatives that just haven't taken off because Reddit is Coca-Cola, sold all over the world, and all of the upstart online forums trying to be uncensored Reddit are store-brand brown fizzy stuff sold in a single chain of supermarkets

The internet is the modern way to gather and exchange ideas, and it is the modern weapon. The main, best-known, and most widely used internet sites for communication and gathering are run by social progressives or funded using advertising dollars from social progressives.

The current way the modern weapon is being used goes far beyond silencing non-progressive ideas or preventing use of the best-known websites to discuss non-progressive ideas.

The way the modern weapon is being used is to paint a picture that the whole world sees, on account of these websites being the most used ones. And in that picture, it looks like the majority of the world is socially progressive, while people like you are a radical fringe minority that everybody hates. But secretly, a lot of people (maybe even most people) are like you. But all of them are being made to feel like they're a tiny minority and terrible people while most of the world is down with the socially progressive future. This is a very effective way to silence people. Not just by censoring their ideas, but by creating the image that everybody is one way when they're not, and anybody who is different (even though that's a huge number of people) is a radical fringe minority.

[–]Senior EndorsedMattyAnon2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy

There have been many Reddit alternatives that just haven't taken off because Reddit is Coca-Cola, sold all over the world, and all of the upstart online forums trying to be uncensored Reddit are store-brand brown fizzy stuff sold in a single chain of supermarkets

It's even harder than this - it's not just being off-brand that's the problem.

As soon as you launch your uncensored reddit or youtube the first people you attract are the people that really should be banned.

So you try to launch a free speech platform, the terrorists and the pedos move in, and you find that you have to choose between supporting the worst of humanity and implementing censorship - the very thing you said you wouldn't do when you launched.

Meanwhile you have to support fringe groups in order to get any traction at all, and google and the rest of the world bans any linking to you or finding you. They hate competition and they quash you before you start.

Similar thing happened with off-brand auction sites. They have to attract people with lower fees (hard to make a profit) or they relax the main-brand guidelines. So of course they are full of fraud and people learn to stay away.

I can't propose a solution, sadly.

[–]TheGweatandTewwible0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

You gotta be careful with what you consider fringe groups, though. The media has smeared any type of ideology right of Trotsky to be far right supremacy

I am pretty sure that this post will get TRP banned soon and I still have over 200 posts of TRP saved in this account which I haven't read yet. What do I do to save them all? I am on phone using the official Reddit app.

[–]WorkUnderProgress23 points24 points  (10 children) | Copy

Dude all these posts that I have saved are a gold mine and I hand picked each one of them. I can't go and search every single post on the forums.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 37 points38 points  (3 children) | Copy

Do you have the URLS saved? I may make a feature that you can search forums.red based on original reddit url.

[–]WorkUnderProgress19 points20 points  (2 children) | Copy

That would be an awesome feature. I will save their URLs right away dude!

[–]RektSalad693 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy

You can probably make a python script using selenium in around 5 minutes to save the urls into a file if you have any experience in programming. If not it's probably faster manually

I haven't looked at how the URLs are organised on reddit and the forum and I'm on a phone at the moment, but if the titles are in the URL you can very easily port them from one site to the other.

I can try my hand at this if more people need it but it seems pretty specific

[–]inkwind2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

Can you copy paste links on pastebin and pm me? Or just share them in some way. I'm very interested in making a pdf.

[–]tyrannosaurus_fl3x20 points21 points  (2 children) | Copy

My honest suggestion, make a word or open office document. Then go through your saved post. Copy the title and paste in. Then copy the body and paste in, and copy some comments if they seem relevant. You don't have to read it all, but you now have your own personal document holding all the pages so reddit admins can't take it away.

I've done it a bunch in the past. Even printed them out into a binder. Also printed out the red pill handbook to read a physical copy and I can write notes in.

[–]Proto_Sigma8 points9 points  (1 child) | Copy

The Red Pill Handbook is literally just this and it’s gold start to finish.

[–]JGdc1218 points19 points  (0 children) | Copy

Copy and paste them into a word document

[–]noNooodleArms6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy

I don't know about phones, but on Chrome you can hit control-s and save as full web page.

You could then look at the web page with any web browser, even if not connected to the Internet.

[–]arakouzo18 points19 points  (10 children) | Copy

Doubtful. Reddit's admin don't read this stuff, and if one of their moderators happens to read it, they'll just chuckle with each other over all of this long-winded impotence and powerlessness and get a kick out of watching all of those bad men scurrying around helplessly while they feel powerful. They are not afraid of some kind of Reddit uprising, led by The Red Pill, over how they moderate things.

No significant number of users is going to depart from Reddit over some unanswered debate posts presented from The Red Pill to the administration.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 16 points17 points  (9 children) | Copy

We are absolutely in the admin's crosshairs, and we have proof they're here quite a bit recently.

I suspect you're unfamiliar with Digg.

[–]throwaway697643 points4 points  (1 child) | Copy

Who/what the hell is "Digg"?

[–]beginner_4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

Digg was what existed before reddit and basically people came to reddit for the exact reasons what reddit is doing now, censorship and selling-out. And they also made a terrible redesign which I almost forgot to mention since I'm using old.reddit.

[–]Redpiller771 point2 points  (6 children) | Copy

Yes, but what exactly do they lose by ignoring? I like the post but I don't see what's the leverage to make them respond.

[–]arakouzo3 points4 points  (5 children) | Copy

That's my take. There is no debate. Acting like there is a debate and we're winning by Reddit's failure to answer just makes us look silly.

Reddit's in charge. They do what they want. And when some red-headed stepchild backward hated forum of bigots like us complains that we were "unfairly" treated when nobody cares if you treat the sub-human bigots fairly, that's more likely to make the masses pat Reddit on the back than hate them.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children) | Copy

Acting like there is a debate and we're winning by Reddit's failure to answer just makes us look silly.

Think a bit deeper. If you are certain the "target" won't respond to a piece (at least not satisfyingly) then who is the real target for the piece?

[–]arakouzo0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

I guess the onlookers, and not enough onlookers give a shit.

In fact, most of the internet masses don't care how Reddit is run. We are evil. It's obvious to everyone. We were punished for being evil. And we're whining about it. And most of the masses don't think evil people like us are owed fairness. And we're especially not owed explanations when the reason what was done to us was done is obvious: we're evil.

Maybe there's a small segment of Reddit users who care about the principle, but not enough to make Reddit shake in its boots and worry about the impact of your debate post.

Maybe you're just trying to rile up The Red Pill user base a bit? Push the transition off of Reddit sooner?

[–]Redpiller770 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy

I don't know what the real target is, but at the end of the day is a lost battle. I actually think is better if TRP stays only in its own website. We won't have to be so heavily censored anymore. TRP can only keep growing. That is the only reason they've had us here for a long time. It's actually better for them if we stay. Reach the manosphere and start promoting any time the feminists do something shitty. TRP already is common internet knowledge.

edit: I just realized the target. My point still stands. Anyone not stupid already sees the biases in reddit. The ones who don't, don't care about this. Better to do what GLO says and burn this shit down. Actually, that was THE move you had to do once you were sure they were erasing/taking TRP. The only thing worse than banning TRP is ruining its message.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

I don't know what the real target is, but at the end of the day is a lost battle. I actually think is better if TRP stays only in its own website. We won't have to be so heavily censored anymore

What do you have to lose for a battle to be lost?

[–]Redpiller770 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

In this case it's to be banned/replace mods, which is something that was going to happen eventually due to TRP's message.

I wish someone made an app just for TRP.

We could filter on the basis of Bodybuilding, Finance, Guide on how to deal with fake allegations, Philosphy and Women, if we like. It was so much easier to read when we weren't quarantined.

Reddit is run by Tech Dorks, they get their orders from NGOs run by Soros and follow obediently. The reason why they will never answer our or anyone elses demands that they explain their actions is because they don't know either.

Someone told them to put up Michael Kimmel. They did. They were told to take down Kimmel. They did.

They do whatever their sponsors tell them to do. Exactly like an Only Fans Girl. They don't know what they are doing but nonetheless they are doing it.

Also notice how they recently started posting advertising on the Red Pill? They might attempt a hostile takeover like they did in The_Donald in which case the only play is to burn this place down, so it doesn't fall into the hands of the enemy.

If reddit the corporate entity truly cared about protecting users from content that might upset them, then instead of actively censoring content, they would provide users with the tools to filter content for themselves.

I would happily attach a "may-be-offensive-to-feminists" tag to TRP myself. That way, feminists who want to exist in a happy little bubble of male disposibility could be blissfully aware of our existence, and feminists who like outrage porn could read us every day and have a hate-gasm.

But Silicon Valley commies are not into "protecting their users", because their users are not paying the bills. If you're not paying for a service, you are not the customer, you are the product. Reddit is in the business of selling our eyes to people who want attention.

And its not the on-the-books advertising dollars that keep never-profitable reddit afloat. It's dark money from the DNC. While it's pretty clear that r/politics (which is now nothing more than a publisher of DNC press releases) and r/politicalhumor were purchased outright, it's also clear that the rot goes deeper than that. Pushing any alternative to socialism off the main page isn't just what makes the people of reddit collectively feel good, it's how they put vegan soy protein on the table and pay the $3K rent on their San Fransisco based studio apartments.

The part in all this that makes reddit look like a bunch of incompetent clowns is that the DNC really isn't getting its money's worth. Reddit's audience is a mile wide and an inch deep. All pageviews are not the same. Some writers and publishers have a great deal of influence over their audience's thought process, some have very little, and the difference is trust.

While reddit has kept any actual money it's accepting out of the public eye, everybody is aware that reddit is putting spin on the ball, even the people who agree with its bias, are glad of it, and consider it to be nothing more than common decency. This diminishes trust on the part of anyone who doesn't already agree, and the eyes of those who already agree are worthless in that they do not need to be persuaded.

Reddit collectively does not understand what TRP does... the simple fact that forcing someone's eye onto something they disagree with does not change their convictions, it strengthens them. /r/politics doesn't convert conservatives or libertarians into liberals... instead, it gives liberals a transitory and financially valueless confirmation bias high, but makes conservatives more conservative, and libertarians more libertarian.

Real persuasion requires engaging with someone's real and personal reasons for believing as they do. TRP collectively understands this, which is why we only engage with those who voluntarily come here ready to listen.

Rich baby boomers buying audiences on reddit, however, do not understand this, because they grew up in the age of network television, where there was little or no alternative to the paid-for narrative. And reddit doesn't understand this, or affects not to, because it's directly against their financial interest to do so.

People who don't like being told what to do or think are slowly building alternatives to the moneyed social networks. "Slowly" is of course the operative term, because they aren't sponsored by people who want to control you, and therefore have to do so for personal satisfaction and little gratitude or money. But people want to talk to each other without Big Brother in the way, and they will, now that the technology exists, find ways to do so.

[–]Redpiller771 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy

I agree with everything you said. But I'd like to add, real persuasion may not be possible by reddit, but they at least confuse and semi-indoctrinate people. Just look at the white liberals fighting against their interests. Just having a platform this big is enough to spread all their ideologies. Doesn't really matter if it isn't immediate. After all, the Unabom*** predicted all this bullshit 30 years ago and only now we are seeing what he was talking about. Just having all their ideological bullshit enter your psyche/consciousness is enough. And it'll take a while for people to stop depending on just certain companies, if it even happens.

Internet eyeballs are non-captive, and notoriously fickle. Digg looked like an invincible colossus until the moment the dam broke.

In summary, /u/spez is not so much an asshole as he is someone whose job and livelihood depend on pretending not to know something. If you ever wanna see someone lie, cheat, and steal, place yourself between them and the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

The fact that he's paid not to understand is that secrets are priceless, but eyeballs are low-value. This is why Google can afford to buy a small European country, and Facebook can give Occulus billions of dollars that they are never going to see again, but reddit is desperately trying to flog shiny little icons to casual readers.

Because Google and Facebook know your secrets, and can sell them. Reddit doesn't, and can't.

At a certain point, reddit made the decision to get big before it figured out it was going to feed itself when it got there. Now, people are noticing that reddit is getting sleazier and sleazier, and wondering what the hell happened to the idealistic founders who wanted reddit to be precisely a "bastion of free speech".

Well, Swartzly died a hero, and Huffman and Ohanian lived long enough to turn into villains. "Sleazy" is just what people do when they are desperate, and the same is true of organizations such as reddit. So sleazeball moves like selling out to China, the DNC, and anyone else dumb enough to pay money for non-captive eyeballs is... well, not exactly a good move, but the only move they have.

Metaphorically, the DNC is the rich asshole who does not have the personality to actually make women like him, so he has to pay for sex, while reddit is just the heroin-addicted seventeen year old who has to sell her body because it's the only valuable thing she has.

[–]redblueninja0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Well, Swartzly died a hero, and Huffman and Ohanian lived long enough to turn into villains.

Gonna miss the forest for the trees but hardly a valid comparison. It's like comparing Tim Berners-Lee to Zuckerburg, if the former had died young.

Swartz is not a hero coz he didn't get enough time to go all "Harvey Dent" on people.

The way that I look at the admins of reddit and I say this from a ''minority'' perspective: It's admin are majority white who dislike anything white and masculine.

Odd times that we are living in brothers. I know that there are many people that do not have a problem with the anti-white stance but what i tell my black compatriots is this: if they come for white men and ''whiteness'' just imagine when they come for you. Because they will.

Whites are the ''hot topic''....for now. Whenever a different group (ethnic or otherwise) assumes power and they are considered to be elitist, privileged, so on and so forth, they will become the new Caucasian. It's a mental illness, a sickness, where everything that is irrational and unverifiable is permissible, however, that which should be thought out, and critiqued, that which isn't always inclusive and wroth with power is considered to be evil, pernicious, and vile. And as usual, it comes from those who want nothing but to be in that place of authority that they supposedly hate.

[–]laiyaise5 points6 points  (2 children) | Copy

Well...there is one group that is "more privileged" than Whites, but they're immune from criticism and even uttering their name is a kin to summoning Voldemort. Whites are simply the dog that everyone kicks because they don't defend themselves.

majority white who dislike anything white and masculine

I agree. But the real question is how the hell did we arrive at this point?

The vast majority of white men (and women) aren’t bad people. Yet it seems like in the past 5-7 years a shitton of otherwise normal white people became convinced that they are evil.

It’s not just a few, and it’s not just the young and impressionable. Successful, middle aged, well adjusted people have gone from “I’m going to treat people equally and with respect” to “me and my people are horrible and are personally responsible for all the wrongs of the past few hundred years.”

It’s a little scary that so many people can be convinced, so quickly, that the behaviors they themselves thought were acceptable for decades are in fact heinous.

[–]Real TalkTheDoorOfOsiris0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Look, I'll be real with you. White people, in general, are different. I don't think any other ethnic group would successfully believe that they are evil in such large numbers. It's terrifying to say the least but really, what can we do about it now? I'm telling white people that they shouldn't feel guilty or despise other white people.....Never in my life as a black male, would I ever thought I would have to have this conversation, on more than one occasion. Not this online bull shit, but actually real life convos with white people who think that they're some sort of manifestation of ancestral conquest and hatred. Idk my friend. I truly hope things get better but I don't see it lessening any time soon.

I have to disagree here because once militant leftists have served their purpose, they're usually put up against the wall and shot. The new masters usually don't suffer the fools that helped them into power.

Reddit’s ban of t_d was the most low brained, hypocritical move imaginable. Their claim was “inciting violence against police”. Many democrats cities this week are quite literally burning while citizens chant that cops should be killed. Of course, the \politics page and the \all page agree, and they spew on the daily more hate against police than t_d ever did. Wasn’t the original offending t_d comment on a post from 4 months prior? Like OP said, the admins comb through every single comment from months prior just to find an excuse to ban subs they disagree with. After the sub’s final warning, they literally did not post once, so no post in pretty much three months, and were then banned regardless.

Reddit censors most content that they do not agree with. Reddit does not allow for controversy. I think one would be hard pressed to logically call the site a public forum. Looking forward to shorting the stock when the company inevitably tries to IPO.

I watched the Donald fall, and it's strange to see this place going through the exact same motions. From moderators asking the gestapo to prove them wrong, from infighting in the comments of the mod post about who's leaving and who's "fighting" it's strange to say the least.

Did you spend any time there? I really didn't see a dumpster fire. I was banned from there a few times for just stating an opinion against the hive mind, but I deserved it. The Donald was a non stop circle jerk for Donald trump, said so in it's side bar. I never once saw a call to violence, I saw some shit talking but honestly the comment section of any top post in the politics sub had actual calls to violence while the Donald just kind of existed. Aside from your feelings toward the president the Donald didn't deserve it's ban.

Thanks for doing this very long and detailed write up. Your experiences with the vague rules and shifting goal posts mirror my own as a member of the_donald. It seemed that nothing that the mod team and community did was ever enough to satisfy the vague demands and vague rules that the admins came up with. There is one question I ask - what is the point of this long winded post and who is the intended audience? Everyone here knows that the reddit admins operate in bad faith and many of us have seen their penchant for shutting down “rule breaking” communities. Surely, the intended audience can’t be the subscribers here because all of us are in the know! If the intended audience is the site admins, why are you trying to debate people who operate in bad faith, who censor, and don’t even follow the standards that they dictate to others in drive-by communiques? You cannot debate or reason with people who hate you and want to grind you into dust.

Finish up the replacement website and once it’s completed, ratchet up the content here as a final FUCK YOU to the cocksucker site admins!

Being here for years now I should say that the information and discussion that takes place here is nowhere to be found in the 'real world' and hidden on the web. I'm grateful for that, to speak my mind, to listen to others. Hell I was once banned for a whole month and I was actually ok with it.

OTOH, the fact that you see a comment with 100 upvotes (which is A LOT in this sub) saying something along the lines of 'women are bitches who should just cook and suck our dicks' is incredibly contradictory to what I believe to be the sub's philosophy. Because even if it was true, even if it's a valid thing to discuss, it's completely childish and inmature, and is almost always not said in the faith of conversation.

Real conversations spark on other interesting topics and it really show because veteran contributors engage on them and give you data, sources and quotes. 'WoMeN BaD AWALT BB AF' is not "Discussion of male sexual strategy in a world lacking it's identity (I think that was the sub's description)". And what have you mods done about it? You call it the anger phase and move on. No trouble.

Wait? -r-female_dating_strategy is saying man should pay for dinner? omfg reddit BAN them 🤯

And this is not just a call out for the mods, I'm speaking about everybody here who thinks that unplugging means becoming an space monkey. You have such an incredible lack of identity that inevitably leads to the same thing you wished to run away from.

Wtf? Dogmatic behaviour is literally the thing that has led many of us here, and finding the same precedents only reasserts my Tesis.

I think there's nothing wrong with 'read the sidebar first' and then engage in discussion. Sometimes we even try to break those same axioms, as any good philosopher should do.

And now you call 'shaming tactics' on me criticizing the fact that there's so many low-level, hateful and tremendously irrelevant discussions which, imo, are the byproduct of the dogmatic downfall of TRP?

Quoting, most probably, yourself:

What are you? a woman?

[–]1jojojijo3334 points5 points  (6 children) | Copy

Your sarcasm is your nice tool to stay as vague as fuck and to say that you triggered someone so you can sneak yourself from any compromising situations

You need to understand that someone who's BP has no business discussing TRP, he just need to follow the steps to unfuck himself. Your BP beliefs are not something that you can "critically think/philosophize" yourself out of. Once you're on the other side then you can do anything you want. That's why TRP is so polarizing, to draw you from BP hell. Rule 0, we don't give a fuck about your opinion, we have plenty of experiences about AWALT, AFBB and other concepts. If you still don't understand that unplugging is a process, you're stupid.

You have such an incredible lack of identity that inevitably leads to the same thing you wished to run away from. "Wherever the religious neurosis has hitherto appeared on earth we find it tied to three dangerous dietary prescriptions: solitude, fasting and sexual abstinence." - Friedrich Nietzche, Beyond good and evil.

This is shaming: you're so lost, alone and sexually frustrated that you found yourself in the same predicament you were in

No, BP guys that are frustrated find TRP and find a fraternity, people who care about them, they get laid and pinpoint their purpose in life. You can sprinkle the word "dogmatic" aaaaaaaalllllll you want in your comments, you will never change this reality.

the dogmatic downfall of TRP

What? Hahahahaha, TRP is becoming mainstream despite the quarantine dude (simp)

You have 3 posts on TRP, one about transcendence, on about women's love and another about something that happened to you/someone for talking TRP stuff in public, all deleted. For someone willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, how can someone not see you as sneaky when you delete your history?

[–]Pezotecom-3 points-2 points  (5 children) | Copy

I've thought of this sub as a fraternity too, but one that eventually lost its capability to maintain focused and on-topic discussions.

And trying not to deviate that much from the OP, my point is that all this incel, women hatred, dumb stuff that ends up being ENDORSED (because that's what upvotes do) is NOT the spirit of the sub, and many believe it that way. So yeah, maybe it's not explicit how we've broken the rules and reddit is just full of ideologues, but it is STILL not in the best of interests of ANYONE remotely invested in TRP to have all this dumb fucking conversations.

On respect to my posts, I know one of them got deleted for infringing the rules (is when I got banned actually). The other one was apparentely off-topic, also deleted. And the last one stayed for a long time but I am now learning that it got deleted too. I have not deleted anything, nor will I ever do. I sincerely don't understand why would you call me sneaky. If anything, it comes as more evidence of how dogmatic behaviour works, don't you think?

[–]Hock3yGrump2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

thought of this sub as a fraternity too

There is your problem. This isn't a "bro" space. We aren't friends, we are each other's competition. BP thinking / weak competition breeds weak contenders and lowers the bar culturally and socially.

Trolls don't give a fuck about your wants and opinions.

that's what upvotes do

No, that's Reddit's currency not TRP, mods commented on that plenty of time (see the top comment on the post Red Pill Can Turn You Into Thinking You Can Be An Island But Unfortunately, No Man Is An Island)

There's plenty of material/people for unplugging yourself in TRP, you just have to reach to it/them, not everyone will do it and some people will get stuck being a bitter misogynist, I understand what you mean and can see how the last waves of incels and blackpillers posting shit here can mislead people. I don't know what to think of that and don't have currently a solution, mods already do a shit ton of work on asktrp/TRP.

[–]slip-down0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

The rot is part of western society as well. I always try to remember the internet is a small percentage of the views in American or western society. However, that number grows everyday. I've always been conflicted in my duty to society. Men have and will always have the ability to walk away. Society innately knows this. No matter how much they cover and ignore it. Civilizations usually end in a whisper. When something is rotting it takes time. We are well into that process.

One of the best traits humans have is self-interest. I used to believe that a cabal of 1% idiots are ruling the world. This is true to an extent, but self-interest dictates other humans will push back to their own..."Imma get mines" as black people say. The powers that be in one place will be pushed by the powers that be of another. Even if they collaborate. They will fuck up each others shit to get theirs.

Reddit is just a symptom. The rot didn't start and won't stop there. I've noticed many close friends including myself, not participating in politic and social discourse. I know it's anecdotal, but to me this means that engaging is not worth it anymore. When men stop engaging in politics it means that walking away is the only other solution. Weak men will stay behind. Females will follow strong men who leave and the cycle will repeat. I'm by not means MGTOW. I'm by all means about my self-interest. Personal liberty is God given or whatever. The redpill has freed me to understand that. I don't need to kill myself for the greater good. You don't either.
