Modern society have robbed men of almost all sense of accomplishment they were able to have in the past, and they're no longer respected for doing anything. I actually think men not being respected anymore is a bigger part of why some men no longer bother with women, not the unfair divorce courts or some other thing they usually talk about. Is it any wonder that when I read this quote:

"The greatest happiness is to vanquish your enemies, to chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth, to see those dear to them bathed in tears, to clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters."

the more animalistic side of me says "Fuck yes!" despite how rough that life was? The men who did this felt like they accomplished something, and they were generally respected, even if just out of fear.
