I am old enough to remember well the older rules for men. Work hard and take care of your woman. Be prepared to lay down your life for her. Watch your mouth in the presence of a lady. Offer her your seat, even if she is a stranger. The same for opening doors and lighting smokes. Disrespect her and risk a beating. Touch her in the wrong way and you’re a dead man.

Fuck, I'm a 90s kid and I remember that.

All those rules apply to LADIES. How many LADIES do you honestly know? The few I know are old and married, or dead.

My grandmother is the last of her kind.

My grandfather was her first and only. He's been dead for 15 years, and she's never dated anyone else. She lives in his house and takes a lot of joy caring for her numerous grand and great grand children. She loves to cook, loves to do laundry, and is a devout Christian. She doesn't drink, never has.

It's really easy to see how polluted our generation of women is when you have an example of an "oppressed woman of the 50's" doing it so, so, right.

...

Disregard females, acquire currency.

Same thing with my grandmother.

My grandfather died 26 years ago, and she's never dated anybody else either.

She's 89 years old now and lives pretty much the same way your grandmother does. Devout Christian, doesn't drink, tons of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She still makes the best lemon pie and brownies I've ever had.

It's what her mother taught her back when women were raised to be wives, mothers and companions to men.

do you consider yourself to be of the same caliber as your grandfather then?

and also, to be fair, you never knew your grandmother until she was a long-lived adult. how can you know for certain how she was when she was younger? the fading of youth brings a lot of change to a person's life.

and you can't complain about women of the now years being nothing like women of the 50's when it's the same for men. the entire culture of our society is different. you can't hold a double standard for how women are when both sexes are extremely different from the past.

I am not saying "not all women are like that", i am saying that you can't be angry at women not being like your grandmother when you can't hold yourself to that same caliber.

the relationship that was expected between a man and woman in the 50's was EXTREMELY different from now. back then you got married young, started a family young, and sex was not so widely accepted and advertised. how are men different? well, how many men do you see at the age of 21, 22 who are looking for a wife to settle down with? how many men do you see who are looking for a relationship and not just hook ups? the whole scene of dating is different. premarital sex is not a big deal anymore, and in fact most guys either leave or get upset if their girlfriend WANTS to wait.

both sexes contributed to this change, if you want women to be like how they were back then you have to instill that same mindset in men as well.

I don't think you can put it in that order. The society as a whole changed, men and women both. Women didn't become more free with their sexuality and men just learned to deal with it, you must realize that that is just plain untrue. In fact, if you look at history and civilizations across the globe, you see that what actually is a big factor in determining the chastity of the culture is the population ratio of men to women. In societies where there were more men, the women were taught and expected to be pure and innocent. However, in populations where there were more women than men, women were given much more freedom in their sexuality because the men did not want to settle down. More options, therefore no crucial need to get immediately paired with a mate and settle.

This is kind of going off topic now, but the point is you simply cannot reasonably put blame on one gender for that example. And moreover, you can't say that women wanting to increase their standing in the world is a bad thing. Any set of people who feel as though they are not being treated equally to the ones around them has a right to try and remedy that. Creating false assumptions and accusations about the results and causes of that accomplishes nothing.

Just my mom and most of her friends. My sister would have been a candidate but she met a guy who fucked her over and now is the alpha female.

Do you recall a couple months ago was a great article here about women flocking to the 'trapping of power'? I think something like that deserves reposting for the newcomers.

Nowadays western women (as well as all men) have the power to vote. Subsequently, voting has been so watered down and commercialized that it really isn't even an indicator of power or affluence.

People who truly hold political power now are lobbyists and CEOs that shape policy and get the government to do their bidding. And surprise, they are a small oligarchy of men.

Not all men rule the world, but those who rule the world are men.

Women fight to get into college. Now college degrees are more overpriced and less valuable every day.

Women fight to get into congress. Now congress doesn't get anything done and everyone hates congress.

Women fight to become doctors and lawyers. There's too many lawyers, and doctors are losing power to insurance companies. Also nurses are becoming more powerful in their scope, at the same time they are becoming more male.

[–]letmethink121 2 points3 points  (3 children) | Copy

so are you suggesting that women should not be allowed those things? those results have to do with supply and demand, not the fact that women are the ones involved.

and are you seriously suggesting that because women are becoming doctors, suddenly doctors are losing power to insurance companies? how do those correlate in any way whatsoever? and furthermore, only 6.6% of nurses of male, hardly a majority. nurses are becoming more powerful because they are cheaper to hire and more in number. it's about economics not about gender.

[–]TRP Vanguardtheubercuber 1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy

I'm not suggesting women be banned from anything. Don't put words into my mouth.

those results have to do with supply and demand, not the fact that women are the ones involved.

Do you have any proof of that? All I am doing is pointing out a correlation, and you have not denied it. If you want to supply a causation that requires evidence.

[–]letmethink121 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy

do i have any proof? it's common sense that there is a limited amount of demand for any profession. more people entering that profession would result in a increase in supply and a decrease in demand. that is an extremely obvious and logical deduction to make. why are lawyers not finding jobs? because there are no jobs available.

now let me ask, do YOU have any proof of your "correlation"? where are the studies and facts that the reason lawyers are losing power as a profession is because women started becoming lawyers? and by the way, that fact in and of itself is incorrect, as women started entering professional school much earlier than when the issue with lawyers began. this is a relatively recent dilemma.

[–]TRP Vanguardtheubercuber 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

Again you put words into my mouth.

women started entering professional school much earlier than when the issue with lawyers began

So? Again, I am saying there is a correlation. First, women become lawyers. Second, law schools are overcrowded and lawyers are too numerous. Again, you agree with me even on that.

If you want to disagree with this correlation, you can do so very easily! Merely find a profession that has power and affluence associated with it. Show how it was traditionally only male, and after women entering the field the profession became even more affluent and respected and powerful.

I would love to see a case opposite of this correlation. Please provide me with such a case and you can disprove all of this very easily

Just a reminder... correlation is not causation.

where are the studies and facts that the reason lawyers are losing power as a profession is because women started becoming lawyers?

There are no studies, because these studies would never be funded regardless of the projected outcome. These would be causative studies. Correlation is easy to see without studies. First "A" happens, then later "B" happens. These two events may be causative, or share the same cause, or something else. They are correlated but not causally linked.
