Lucky it was just with birds... Its sad that beautiful little love birds were killed, but shit think of this as a litmus test.

There are actual instances out there where moms kill the kids.

I got the feeling that if he did bring a child into that household (through adoption for example) - it wouldn't last long.

This isn't psychopathic, since no history mentioned by OP. This sounds psychiatric, brought on by the benzodiazepins, that OP has stated his wife has started. Also, this is a troll post, since benzodiazepins are psychoactive drugs, and you don't need the internet to tell someone to go get reassessed from your primary care physician who prescribed said medicine.
